2017 Trump Presidency Thread

I have my own criticisms of Trump. Overall so far so good though, all things considered.

Re: Russian hacking, Yes you could say that Russian hackers tried to hack the United States. That is a vague accusation however and something that we've been dealing with ever since the Ruskis discovered the Internet. We hack them, they hack us, everyone is hacking everyone. But the claim is that Russian government hackers somehow influenced the election. That hasn't really been clearly defined and there doesn't seem to be a way to prove it. For one a competent hacker can hide his traces or make the hack look like it came from elsewhere. Then there is no way to tell that Putin himself directed the hackers. What did they do, influence the election by showing us how corrupt Hillary Clinton was? They hacked normal emails but didn't hack and release the top-secret intel that she stored on an unsecured server? < That should be the real hacking scandal. Not to mention that all evidence of the DNC leaks points to an internal leaker. Why did Assange say that Seth Rich leaked the emails? If you genuinely believe that Russian hackers swung the election for Trump then you are more of a conspiracy theorist than I am.

Saying that Russian hackers took down the American electoral process is like saying that a bird that flew into my bedroom window is going to destroy my entire house. Also what about Obama & Clinton literally mocking Trump before the election? They stated that the US electoral process was watertight, unriggable and that Trump should "stop whining and go make a case to get more votes". Some of us forget their smugness and complete disdain for that possibility (because they were certain they would win). However after the shock loss they changed their tune pretty damn quick.

Re: Alex Jones. I am confused by people saying that Jones distancing himself from the Pizzagate scandal somehow debunks the theory. Also people assume I must be a fan of Alex Jones simply for speaking up about Pizzagate. Nothing could be further from the truth, Jones is a disinfo agent who throws in half-truths and fabrications to muddy the waters of legitimate scandals and prevent people from investigating what he talks about for fear of being labeled a crazy person. When Jones appeared on the Joe Rogan podcast speaking about Pizzagate I was very surprised simply because of the reach and exposure that conversation would have had. But when Jones spoke about it he got a few of the facts wrong (disinformation). Anyway those 2 discussing the details of the scandal was very bad for the coverup so Jones was threatened with litigation and had to apologize and retract his statements. This proves nothing. Why would you treat Jones' retraction seriously but nothing else he says seriously? Pizzagate/Pedogate has resulted in one of the most comprehensive and blatant coverups in political history. They even (most likely) hired some random to commit a false-flag by walking into Comet Pingpong with a gun to show us all the "danger of fake news" - "stop perpetuating these stories, someone is going to get killed!!". Unfortunately for them the cat is out of the bag and too many people are now somewhat aware of what is going on and who may be involved. It is only a matter of time before this blows wide open imo.

if you think that is a first amendment issue, you don't understand free speech.
Creating a gif and posting it online is free speech. Threatening someone or coercing them for exercising a constitutional right is a crime. I'm not sure how you can excuse CNN tracking this guy down and threatening to doxx him.

Is twitter really a medium to be voicing personal opinions about such an issue?
What's your problem with Twitter? Character limit makes it reprehensible? Twitter is the Trump News Network. No media spin, just delivering messages straight to the American people. It was one of the reasons why he was elected.

care to post some evidence.
or do we file 'dems rig the election' in the same file as 'obama had my phone tapped' - the utter b.s. file
No this is just my personal opinion along with many others. The attitudes of the Democrats before and after the voting is a dead giveaway. Electoral fraud does exist, denying it completely is living in fantasy land. The question really is - to what extent is it having an effect? I would wager everything I own on domestic voter fraud having a much more pronounced effect on the election results than Russian hackers.

Also Obama was unlawfully surveilling Trump. Members of his team were unmasked and the investigations into this scandal are happening and are extremely serious. It is unprecedented for an outgoing administration to spy on an incoming one. The Obama administration and the Clinton camp were willing to subvert the democratic process to obstruct or remove Trump. We are basically witnessing a coup. This is also shows how clean Trump is, the worst they could find was Flynn being a bit dodgy. So they did get Flynn but they exposed their methods in the process. Risky.

Lawsuit Seeks to Void Georgia Congressional Election Results

ATLANTA — Georgia's electronic touchscreen voting system is so riddled with problems that the results of the most expensive House race in U.S. history should be tossed out and a new election held, according to a lawsuit filed by a government watchdog group and six Georgia voters.

The lawsuit was filed Monday in Fulton County Superior Court by the Colorado-based Coalition for Good Governance and voters who are members of the group. It seeks to overturn the results of the June 20 runoff election between Republican Karen Handel and Democrat Jon Ossoff in Georgia's 6th Congressional District. Handel was declared the winner with 52 percent of the vote to Ossoff's 48.

The named defendants include Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp, members of the State Election Board, local election officials in Fulton, Cobb and DeKalb counties and the Center for Election Systems at Kennesaw State University.

The lawsuit claims Georgia's touchscreen voting system has severe security problems, lacks verifiable paper ballots and cannot be legally used for elections.

A judge in June threw out a related lawsuit earlier that attempted to force Georgia to use paper ballots.

The new lawsuit comes weeks after the publication of a classified National Security Agency report describing a sophisticated scheme, allegedly by Russian military intelligence, to infiltrate local U.S. elections systems using phishing emails.

The suit cites the work of private cybersecurity researcher Logan Lamb, who discovered last August that a misconfigured server had left Georgia's 6.7 million voter records and other sensitive files exposed to hackers. The complaint also notes that seven months after Lamb made that discovery, another researcher was able to do the same.

A spokeswoman for Kemp did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday. But in a column Sunday in USA Today, Kemp blamed the news media for developing "false narratives about Russian hacking and potential vulnerabilities in the system. The prevailing plot line is that states like Georgia can't provide suitable security for elections."

Kemp asserted that states are doing enough to keep elections secure, and he said, "Anything to the contrary is fake news."

Marilyn Marks, executive director of the Coalition for Good Governance, said the lawsuit was filed hours ahead of a deadline at midnight Monday to contest the election. She says the group does election integrity work in multiple states.

I just think it's sad (lol) that a 71 year old man 'Tweets' at 5am every day, like a high school girl getting ready for her day. I don't even have a twitter. I've never understood the allure. Of all social media outlets, it seems the most pointless and downright boring.

So for you Trump folks, do you like the fact that your man with a plan acts like a teenage girl? Doesn't it bother you how immature he acts? My 7 year old nephew treats people with more respect and dignity, and he's a right arsehole :p

Reddit must be an utter cesspool.

There is no arguing this
8)

No, they didn't threaten or blackmail him. 8)
Yes they did. And the internet is responding in kind.

no it's not. do you think you have free speech on bluelight.org?

I can post this here and the admins cannot do anything about it. Reddit has even less stringent rules than this forum. Should I be threatened with having my identity exposed to the world for what I just did?

lol. i thought so.

alasdair
I stated that it was my opinion. You are misrepresenting my quotes and making it appear as if I've made a claim and refuse to back it up with evidence, which makes you disingenuous and simply trying to character assassinate me. Please keep my comments in context.

i'm not. again, you're putting words in my mouth.
Ironic. Do you approve of or are you OK with CNN's actions? Tracking down the creator of a random GIF because the President chose to share it?

I've never understood the allure. Of all social media outlets, it seems the most pointless and downright boring.
You type words. Those words get posted to the Twitter social media platform. Millions of people read your words. It's a very simply concept and not only used by teenage girls, it is also the preferred platform of a multitude of serious journalists. Your problem seems to be with Trump himself speaking directly to the world.

Can't he do it like everyone else does, or is that too difficult? For Christ's sake. You'll even back his childish twitter antics?

^ in my experience, some trump supporters will support pretty much anything he says or does.

Do you approve of or are you OK with CNN's actions? Tracking down the creator of a random GIF because the President chose to share it?
aren't 'approving of' and 'being ok with' the same thing? no matter.

i do not approve of their actions.

you did not answer my other question... do you think you have free speech on bluelight.org?

He's the President. If the mainstream media didn't declare war on him and treat him like a piece of shit (a study shows CNN reporting on him is 93% negative) then he wouldn't need to use Twitter to get his message out. I agree with you, I would prefer that the media treated him fairly and reported on real news so that he did not need to use Twitter. But it is what it is. I don't blame him for using the resources available, and it did help him win so...

you did not answer my other question... do you think you have free speech on bluelight.org?

Yes, within certain parameters. Just like the real world. You cannot go around doing or saying whatever you want without expecting repercussions, but free speech is protected by law and that extends to making gifs and posting them online. He did nothing illegal however CNN seem to have potentially committed a crime in "dealing" with him. They should not have even bothered to track him down. They cannot censor the President so they will attempt to censor random internet users so that others "get the message" and do not make mean gifs featuring their network. Fortunately for free speech it has had the opposite effect and the gif-makers have come out in full force.

Free speech is a double edged sword. Trump has used free speech to make various false allegations and has had the ability to freely make himself look like an idiot but free speech does not mean people listening will automatically agree or even care. Mostly I listen for a laugh and wonder if the freedom to have him shut up will ever happen.

All politicians lie, I'm know that's cliche as shit but look at the stuff Hillary lied about (serious criminal activity) or Obama (lied and said he learned about Clinton's email scandal from the media). If you compile all their lies they will match Trump's (and IMO supersede his in terms of importance and nefarious intent).

Yes, Trump lies sometimes. Usually to deflect questions meant to lure him into a trap, but sometimes it is just based on false information. Get over it. Y'all are acting like he is the first politician to lie - or the fact that he is not a career politician means he is not allowed to lie (it is nice to think he may be held to a higher standard).

All things considered, he is still a generally honest, straight-talking individual. He communicates like a normal person and that is why so many people have an affinity for him and support him. He was already rich and successful, he did not need to run for President and jeopardize the lives of his family or go through the complete decimation of his reputation. You cannot blame the people for being completely distrustful and cynical towards career politicians, blame the corrupt politicians for that. This is what happens when faith in elected official reaches new lows, a populist outsider can just swoop in and take over.

Taking a look at the elements of the statute itself, New York Penal Law § 135.60 says that a person is guilty of coercion in the second degree if he:

compels or induces a person to … abstain from engaging in conduct in which he or she has a legal right to engage … by means of instilling in him or her a fear that, if the demand is not complied with, the actor or another will … Expose a secret or publicize an asserted fact, whether true or false, tending to subject some person to hatred, contempt or ridicule

CNN is saying that they will reveal the user’s private identity, currently kept anonymous in his Reddit posts, if he doesn’t stop to post offensive material (which he is legally allowed to do). That sure sounds like it fits the bill.

I haven't read all the posts as Donald really doesn't deserve too much of my time but with regard to his use of Twitter I would think this is a positive direction for a leader of any country. We should get a play by play of exactly what they are doing and how they are spending our wealth. They should be the most public office in our country. I think he should tweet away, let us know exactly what he thinks this minute.

Keeping pace with a very rapidly changing world the old methods of government are being shown to be ineffective and cost prohibitive. I'm certain Donald didn't start tweeting because it was new technology but social media is playing an ever expanding role in our world we can either harness and use it well or be forever victims of the meme.
