Alright we can drop the subject, I don't know why I felt the need to argue it.
Merkel is probably just as much of a media whore as the next politician, certainly less so than our Mr. Trump, but that's a whole 'nother can of worms. It's true that she's scared of the media portraying her in a bad light, but again, so is Mr. Trump (arguably more so, with his childish outbursts and banning of reporters from conferences, etc.) A politician should never try to fight the general consensus unless it is completely immoral to follow it, which I assume you or at least Ryan think is indeed the reason why Merkel should oppose further refugee acceptance.
It's not like the New Years rapes a few years ago didn't bother me, if anything it furthered anti-Islamic sentiments in me as I'm sure it did to y'all; in fact I'm never going to argue that Islam isn't inherently violent; I took a whole class on Islamic civ. in college and after I studied the first 700 years of their culture, I concluded that Islam is a Paradox; at times, benevolent and even accepting of other cultures (such as people of the book) and at others butchering and murdering thousands to achieve the spread of their faith.
I just don't think it's right to assume that a whole slew of people (the entirety of Islamic descendants) are one way or another; I'm sure it's like here in America, where more and more youth are turning from faith when educated about secular ideas. There are people in the Middle East who think we're a Christian country, and we're the furthest thing from it. I'm not Christian but I'm sure I could be killed for it because I'm an American. My point is, over-generalizing is as wrong as not generalizing at all. There are many (if not the majority?) children of Islam who genuinely want to build a good life for themselves and really don't think about their cultural faith for a minute when making decisions, just as I ignore my cultural faith even though my parents spent years educating me in Catholicism.
Would it be too much for me to point out how America has become the 'world police' and maybe some other cultures are darn tired of that and wan't us to leave everyone else alone? At first it was about protecting American interests, but this has gone too far... We've been tied up in proxy wars for the past 60 years with no end in sight; if I weren't American, I'd sure hate us too. In fact, I do hate us. I hate the way America is running towards its own version of extremism, I hate nationalism as a whole, I hate the way American capitalism is built upon the back of the worker yet benefits them little. I hate it all. In fact, the only thing I am proud of is our clearly superior media; American film and music is top of the pack and no one could ever successfully argue against that, but that too is likely due to multiculturalism offering a variety of views. Not to say that modern popular film/music in America is the cream of the crop, but rather that most of the best film/music/art the world has ever known has come out of this country over the last seven decades and no one else can hold a candle up to that collective, beautiful culture.
