Trump now fired a man that possibly won him the election: James comey (when he came out with his new investigations against hillary right before the polls).

fired em for investigation of trump's russia help with winning

t hat is dictator type shit right there, firing government officials for being honest.

FUCKING JAMES COMEY for president!!!!!

he exposed both hillary's and trumps crookedness

These guys are just taking America for a ride and the audacity is breathtaking. Trump just lies constantly and gets away with it. This sacking is so on the nose its not funny. Some good old boy will get the job and it will all go away...and probably the Hillary investigation reopened as a distraction. Or perhaps he will bomb someone.

People who voted for these clowns thinking they would MAGA are so dumb. All they are doing is MTRR (making the rich richer)

To be a stickler, how about Cuba?

Well, from what I hear this is way different now. You can buy new cars, and the country seems to be in transition, they have a different currency much more available, not only this but things in general are changing fast, they have perspectives. The Cubans are not getting killed because they are now talking to journalists. I believe they are more respectful in regards to Human Rights now, at least according to the Nordic Embassies. Besides they have a new diplomatic status with the US and with so many other embassies working in favor of a better environment.

Castro is dead and they are moving forward. My point is that I really don't think the situation is comparable with having Trump in the power saying or doing whatever he wishes, lying all the time, trying to dominate the news cycle- to say the least. He's not the most powerful man on Earth, not for them. I am sure Trump is much more like minded with people like Duterte from Indonesia. He's pretty much like the Trump of the East due to his idiotic point of views.

Source on that? Also do you count every person that dies from starvation and inadequate healthcare in a capitalist society as dying because of capitalism?
I don't consider what we have as capitalism

The court of appeal of Kiev estimated in 2010 that the demographic losses due to the 1932-1933 famine amounted to ~10 million, 3.9 direct famine deaths, and a further 6.1 million birth deficit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holodomor

Also, lets not forget how poorly they treated their soldiers fighting Germany. They lost over 10 million compared to 4.5 million Germans. And they executed around a million returning Soviet POWs after the war was over. Plus Stalin's purges and the various experiments the KGB did on their own citizens.

I don't think you have the freedom of speech as you used to have either imo, although you can protest and have a free media amongst thousands of other things. Some of the things people used to say about certain issues regarding intel and how you trully feel about terror can be quite restricted in terms of vigilance and lack of privacy. Of course this is only my impression over what people in the US have been saying.

No you wouldn't, you use the same arguments that communist use it's pretty funny. Do you know anything about the gilded age? How many people died and where exploited in America alone. Capitalism has much more suffering and deaths attached to it but there is no tally because they blame the victims.

I fall into the "comey should have been asked to resign jan 20th, this is long overdue....." camp.

First the media melt down, then on cue democrats appear in front of mics parroting the outrage. Great entertainment.

Otoh

Horrendous execution....just awful and tasteless, beneath the decency of the office. ?

Comey found out via the news. Shame on you Tramp!

Comey being asked to resign on the 20th would have been better, IMO. It still would have been questionable, but at least it could have been interpreted as a new president cleaning house.

Comey being asked to resign days after he asked for more funds to investigate Russia's meddling in the election is getting into Nixonian territory. Not that Trump was ever far from Nixon. This was written two months ago:

Imagine a President who is convinced that the media, the Washington bureaucracy (led by the State and Defense Departments), and the Washington D.C. establishment are completely against him and must be treated as enemies. When the New York Times or the Washington Post prints a story he does not like, he orders his entire staff to avoid all contacts with their reporters until further notice. He attempts to centralize all power in the White House, particularly with respect to foreign affairs and defense policy, and often keeps his Secretary of State in ignorance of what diplomacy he is conducting. The President also has strong feelings about certain ethnic groups, which he vents in telephone calls to his staff. He does not trust the FBI to carry out critical national security investigations. He also has strong feelings about criminals, and at one point announces, in the middle of a celebrated murder trial, that the accused is guilty. He bluntly attacks judicial decisions with which he disagrees. In the evening, after long days of work, the president often records his feelings, railing again and again at the rich and famous who have always had it in for him. He is obsessed with the adulation showered upon his predecessor, who in the opinion at least of some of his faithful supporters was never rightfully entitled to the White House at all. Late in his first successful campaign for President, this man engaged in secret negotiations with a foreign nation that helped torpedo a diplomatic initiative that might have caused him to lose the election.

Huge economic growth during that time period. I guess it's a risk vs reward thing.

Wasn't it capitalist policies that helped the Chinese economy grow so fast and bring like 150 million people out of poverty?

You mean Clintonian territory. Bill fired the FBI director in 1993 (coincidentally the day before Vince Foster died ;)) He also fired all the gop attorneys.

Capitalism is the sole reason that we have 3rd/1st world countries. Its all based on resources. Most poverty in the world is linked to capitalism and its ceaseless accrual of resources. Poverty has destroyed untold and countless lives. Capitalism has been and continues to be one of the most disastrous and bloody policies we've adopted and the worst part is that capitalism is considered the status quo; we just accept the incredibly inequality that it naturally imposes on societies as if have's and have-not's are a fundamental fact of life. They only exist because capitalism encourages and makes a virtue of greed; given that we have finite resources, if some groups have more, others must have less.

The 'death toll' of communism is nowhere near the death toll of capaitalism policy. But the death toll of capitalism is so diffuse and prevelant that we can barely even see it as anything but 'the way it is'.

Besides, democracy in capitalism is tricky as you need millions and millions for campaigning so basically only those with money can run or if not and you need companies to sponsor you will owe favors, very simply speaking. In need to pay back when elected. It's not for everyone as we are led to believe IMO.

Except (maybe) for Scandinavian countries where capitalism is not so much applauded, there are more equality not only about incomes , but also by having a fair pay in general and more accessible rights when it comes to jobs, health care, education etc divided carefully by woman and man. But you need to pay a whole lot of taxes. And accept the concept of being an ordinary person. Besides, everything is annoyingly transparent which means every one is entitled to know how much your income is and if you are paying taxes accordingly. Not so sure if that would work if countries had a larger population.

Well, yes and no; The 1st world when it came about as a term was referring to all American allied countries in the Cold War, and 2nd world Russia and its allies, with 3rd world being any countries not formally aligned. Hence the term 3rd world. It came to be associated with extreme poverty because of Russian/American meddling/non-backing/independence from the two. So yes, we have the 3rd world because of capitalism, but also because Russia had their 2nd world and some people just didn't wana be a part of either.

Just stupid facts you learn when you get your B.A. in History...

Consider that Germany would be 3rd world (or really, 2nd) had we not put so much money, time and effort into making them the buffer state that they have now become.

Historically, state (elite) meddling in the economy (theft, concentration of power and resources, corruption, cronyism) was the reason for underdevelopment. It's also largely the reason for 3rd world underdevelopment today.

Market economics, backed up with firm rules, laws and regulations, a balanced political system and some degree of redistribution (welfare capitalism), helps to create a fairer playing field and limit the capacity of elites to extract wealth from the poor. It also permits invention (patenting), which has led to pretty much all the great things we take for granted today (specialisation, cheap food and clothes, abundant goods, devices to make life easier, transport, decent housing, computers etc etc).

This is not to say you or I can't think of fairer systems. But until you genetically breed-in non-selfish/altruistic genes to everyone, these idealistic sharing economies aren't going to work. A large percentage of people are always out to try and get more at your expense, they don't care about fairness, sharing, working together or any of that. Such systems will always tend to collapse or, ultimately, permit a very small group too much power and wealth and wreck the economy.

another great day in the whitehouse.

did you see trump's comments this morning? the whitehouse has spent the last couple of days explaining the comey firing. trump just contradicted everything his spokespeople have been saying. they can't even get their own story straight. trump has basically confirmed that spicer's version of events was completely incorrect.

spicer is lying or trump is lying. they can't both be right.

the senate's subpoena for flynn's documents and his asking for immunity takes this up a notch - this isn't over by a long shot...

alasdair

I saw so many times the videos of Trump praising Comey and then something else, later he blamed Obama.
Sometimes I think he's getting old on top of being a bad character, like those really mean and annoyingly stubborn old guys - not in a good or cute/funny way, needless to say.

He's acting more and more like a dictator by the day. Comey's firing may be one of the most alarming things he's ever done honestly. I think that by doing that though, he's making himself look even more guilty as far as the investigation is concerned.

It's very Nixonian, but it is actually within his presidential rights to fire the FBI director. Definitely a cover up though. Anyone who eats this man's bullshit is dumber than a box of rocks and must have the nastiest smelling breath.
