Why are people surprised they couldnt get it done? There are many views in the gop and there wasnt consensus on what to do. The issue itself wont go away so plenty of chances to make bold changes to healthcare should the republicans not blow their majorities.

I dont see it as a defeat since I had little faith in the bill anyway, or Paul Ryan.
it is absolutely a defeat. and a broken campaign promise.

"Never give up, never surrender!" - Galaxy Quest

"Our last, best hope, for peace." - Babylon 5

I love quotes!

I actually had a proffesor use that Babylon 5 intro line. Cracked me up. I was like dude, you watch B5? He was like, "Yeh..."

with all these motivational quotes, it appears that trump is, at heart, an underaged school girl

reach for the stars donny

That's because words have these things called "definitions". When the definition of a word describes something, you call that something by that word. Your problem is with how language works, same with the other trumpenproletariat.
Criticising immigrants who commit violent crime doesn't fit the definition of racism or bigotry.

"" My high school offered a gun safety course, and we took beginner firearms training classes during the summers.... Most of us ended up owning at least one firearm. Most of us also stayed out of trouble with LE and didn't shoot anybody.

Is there any evidence yet that Trump is getting tired of being president and wants to resign? I never believed he was serious about running and was doing it as a PR stunt.

All indications are that he was never serious and it still is a PR stunt. Unfortunately a large swathe of the American voting public really is that racist, their so dumb they implement racist policies to prove how not racist they are. It's like a dog that accidentally caught a car. He has no idea what to do with it.

In Trump's case though he can stuff his pockets full of cash and leave America a bankrupt mess--I mean I don't blame him, that's how he ran his businesses, that's how he's running America. It's pretty funny seeing the people that criticized Obama for golfing be quiet or use insane logic to rationalize Trumps constant golfing.

Looks like you were right- but if ISIS is doing what this says they are, I don't see how Islam could function as such a people- or how they are in alignment with it. So perhaps I should retract other statements, saying they are. Says they used the civilians for the way it would reflect back on us, putting them in a building and coaxing an airstrike.

US Forced To Adjust Bombing Tactics After ISIS Baits Airstrikes On Civilians

The U.S. is adjusting its aerial tactics after the Islamic State baited an airstrike on nearly 200 civilians in Mosul, a spokesman for the U.S. mission in Iraq told reporters Thursday.

Army Col. Joseph Scrocca told reporters the U.S. has video of ISIS forcing civilians into a building, and killing a civilian who resisted. ISIS then stationed fighters on the building in an effort to get the U.S. backed Iraqi Security Forces to call in a U.S. airstrike on the position.

The suspicion came to light after a March 17 U.S. airstrike hit the building, possibly playing a role in its collapse and the resulting death of 200 civilians. The video confirmed U.S. suspicion of the tactic and “has caused some adjustments” to targeting procedures.

“My initial assessment is that we probably had a role in these casualties,” Army Lt. Gen Stephen Townsend told reporters Tuesday. Townsend clarified that the types of U.S. munitions used should not have collapsed the structure, indicating ISIS booby traps may have played a role.

“What you see now is not the use of civilians as human shields,” Scrocca continued. “Now it is something much more sinister.”

Civilian casualty incidents may multiply as the U.S. supports the most brutal phase of the Iraqi Security Force advance on Mosul. The Iraqi’s are currently assaulting the most crowded and narrow part of Mosul in what has turned into a bitter urban slog.

Nearly 400,000 civilians remain inside ISIS controlled Mosul, and they may be used increasingly as human shields as ISIS hangs on to the last of its territory in Iraq. “We go out of our way to always do everything humanly possible to reduce the loss of life or injury among innocent people,” Secretary of Defense James Mattis told reporters after the March 17 incident.

^ a pretty good read (as the economist usually is).

"Far from taking Washington by storm, America’s CEO is out of his depth."

succinctly put.

tldr as usual, but the point is that islamophobes tend to use these passages of the quran on a regular basis to "proof" it's badness. and if the same stuff in the bible is just historical record, the same holds true for the quran imo. so people who bring this up rather want to show the hypocrisy of some people.

Most of the worst things in the Bible are in the Old Testament (Leviticus if I recall is the worst.)

Jesus essentially abolished much Old Testament law.

Matthew 15King James Version (KJV)

15 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,

2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.

3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?

4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.

5 But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;

6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition.

7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,

8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

10 And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:

11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?

13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.

16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?

17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?

18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:

20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

So yes, the Jews and Muslims are very similar, if you include the Talmud. Christians are not.

Jesus essentially abolished much Old Testament law.

“For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass the law until all is accomplished. Whoever then relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who does them and teaches them shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:18-19)

“It is easier for Heaven and Earth to pass away than for the smallest part of the letter of the law to become invalid.” (Luke 16:17)

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest part or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place.” (Matthew 5:17)

“Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law” (John 7:19)

so you're down with restrictions on buying and selling: background checks; proficiency testing; etc.?

alasdair
We already have background checks. I'm against them being universal as that would require universal registration. I would rather buy from the black market then have my name on a registry.

No interest in following what the amendment actually says and being part of a well-regulated militia, eh? I always love how so many people who claim to care about the constitution are so open about their derision for it and how they refuse to acknowledge any parts of it that disagree with their biases.
