2017 Trump Presidency Thread

Sure, the pot may grow 2.5% in a good year, so do the people . . . .

US population growth rate is under 1% and has been for years.

So a 2.5% growth rate would be (if divided equally), a 1% increase in wealth.

The problem is that the rich are becoming social parasites. Instead of investing in Americans and making a strong middle class (who are the real job creators), they are happy skimming off the top even if it means the pie shrinks over time. They'll attack affordable healthcare, middle class tax cuts, good schools, affordable higher education, strong worker protections, and anything else that makes America competitive as long as they can make a quick buck off of it.

If they keep going the way they want, we're going to see a has-been America.

Sounds like a lot of you are extremely desperate to remove Trump (not sure why you weren't so desperate to remove the scum politicians that let the country - and the world - get to the state that it's in where we needed someone like Trump to step up and do something), but sorry to say you may be waiting for a while. Don't let the Liberal media fool you that "impeachment is imminent" - they've been saying that since Day 1 yet more than half a year has passed and we still have zero evidence or solid grounds for dismissal. The accusations are actually quite comical - simply for the extreme amounts of hypocrisy involved. "Just wait... more evidence is coming!" is going to be the DNC"s campaign tagline in 2020. The Democrats have still not bothered to clean house, fix their party internally and come to the public with some solid policy issues. Nope, they continue to just double-down and run on the platform of "At least we're not Trump. Trump is evil and bad for America. Trump will be impeached". OK good luck with that...

The rich must be social parasites, to be rich . . .

I'll still argue with your zero-sum thing, but we both agree to eat the rich, right after we eat the Trump voters, especially the poor ones.

A lot of them probably always were. But when you have oxen thresh out the grain, it's more or less expected they'll take a few mouthfuls. The oxen get fed, and we get the grain threshed.

But we've gotten to the point where they are eating the seed we need to plant next year. Gains among the rich are coming at the expense of the middle class and the poor.

One way or another, if it continues, it must end. Hopefully before it wrecks America.

I blame inherited wealth and those who have their lips firmly planted to the asses of the wealthy.

At least when a person worked their way up the social ladder, they had some clue how the bottom half lives. We had rich people like Carnegie that started out in poverty, and through hard work (and more than a bit of luck) got wealthy.

Now we get people like Trump who seem to honestly believe they are self-made men even though they got by with more than a bit of generous financial aid from their fathers. These are the idiots who think that with just a bit of work, anyone can be rich.

As they become more and more disconnected from the common people, they risk engineering the circumstances where the figurative villagers show up on their doorstep with pitchforks and torches, much to their surprise.

The original thinking behind the American Estate Tax, branded the "death tax" by right-wing media, was to keep the country anti-monarchy. Prevent the rise of an American aristocracy.

It only applies in the millions of dollars, but ask a broke Trump supporter, and I bet they hate it.

- most protestors don't even know what they are protesting.
most? that's a pretty bold, wide-ranging (and not to mention vague) claim. how would you substantiate this?

At least you know where Trump stands...
i totally respect the idea that you have formed a different opinion of trump based on what he says and does but it is hard to imagine how any reasonable, rational person could come to this conclusion based on his performance so far.

i heard it all the way through the campaign from core supporters - what a straight-shooter he is and how you always know what he's thinking. it's such unadulterated bullshit it's tragic. he's the most pants-on-fire lying politician and has personally ushered in the era of 'post truth'.

there's a lot of material so let's focus one one specific area to try to rationalize this. trump campaigned on being a washington outsider, not a politician. that's what we needed and he's the only guy that fits the bill, right? you said it yourself: "He isn't a career politician".

one of his main campaign claims, on the back of his novel independence was that he was going to "drain the swamp".

subotai, can you explain to me how, even in the context of just his his cabinet appointments, he hasn't done pretty much the exact opposite? how would you resolve your pre-election delight at his talk about draining the swamp with what he actually did? in what sense does this demonstrate that you knew where he stood on that central campaign promise?

^ his claim was "most protestors don't even know what they are protesting".

your video doesn't really address that claim. indeed, many of the examples he picks out in that video seem to know exactly what they are protesting.

"The only ppl that can relate to vice are jet setting trannies that drink craft beer."

Not one part of that sentence makes any sense.

Anyway, had Persian flashbacks, thought--Muslim women who use lots of makeup (all of them), are devout the same way the girls from your nearby Mennonite school are: blowjobs for free, but Jesus says anything more requires proof of purchase.

Are you sure about that? I thought it was a "women's march" - yet 50% of women were not invited and their keynote speaker was an advocate of Shariah Law.

What exactly were they protesting?

The problem with Trump is that he has for a long time been able to just twitter or get on tv and blurt out what is on his mind without having to find beforehand what he is saying is true or not.

Now he just does what he always has and has to backpedal because hes not stated facts.

Theres a lot of excuses put forward but the main one of being inexperienced in politics is pretty laughable.

Its not his fault at all he is the President as he was fairly elected and this is the kind of thing that was to be expected.

So yeah he is being true to his word and being himself but surely should have had better training in the months ahead of being made President?

He will probably be re elected at this rate.

There's also a slim chance they'll grow a spine and have to face Pence instead.

(You guys are trying to kill me)

The only way Democrats can win in 2020 is if they run Tulsi Gabbard, Nina Turner or maybe Bernie Sanders.
They should also start offering some concrete policies that people can rally behind.
Otherwise get used to 8 years of The God Emperor.

it is hard to imagine how any reasonable, rational person could come to this conclusion based on his performance so far.

Would you have preferred Hillary Clinton have become President? Serious question.
If yes, what is your reasonable, rational justification?
