2012 major league baseball thread v. Playoffs make baseball watchable

i want jack wilson back

i know he's having rough year with the braves but he's doing no worse than clint barmes

i feel like if the pirates ever make it to the promised land jack belongs on the bus

I seriously couldnt tell you one player on the Pirates besides Mccutcheon.

I feel like they never sign anyone noticeable

you know AJ burnett

you know

the guy who can't get out of the third inning in september

he's 9-2 with a 3.50~ era

weren't the pirates atop their division this time last year too?

Giants! Finally managed to win a game.

Sorry it had to be against your pirates CR but we needed that. We will be needing the one tomorrow aswell.....

I want Heath Bell run out of town. The Marlins would be in first place if it weren't for his unbelievable suckiness. 6 blown saves plus 3 or 4 other losses that don't count as blown saves because he gave up 4 run leads.

Phillies are so disappointing to watch right now. In his absence, I forgot how much Ryan Howard strikes out

oh

no need to apologize buddy

mccutchen was a beast today and pnc park was filled with drunks waving jolly rogers and apparently the teams motto that the fans and players have adopted is the power of ZOLTAN...after AJ burnett hit a bases loaded single he looked in the dugout and gave the Z sign

4th best record in all the majors, no meltdowns this year, no way sir

Haha nice, believe it or not I actually would like to see the pirates do well, just not against the giants. At least the dodgers have been sucking ass too.

Lincecum has been a major disappointment this year.

seems like most of your players that were hurt are back. we'll see what happens after the break. i'm glad we got to sweep you fuckers this weekend though.

Heyward made a great catch against Juan Pierre yesterday, took away a definite triple with the Phils down by a run. Kimbrel has some nasty pitches too, Id rather have him than Papelbon considering their salaries.

Only way I see them making the playoffs is if Halladay, Hamels, and Lee pitch lights out for the rest of the year. Which isnt implausible, but theyre running out of games to start coming back. I just hope they dont do what the Eagles did last year and win a bunch of meaningless games en route to just missing out on the wild card.

what ken is to the NCAA football thread is what i'm going to be in this thread

RAISE THE fuckin' JOLLY ROGER
ZOLTAN

move over big rape and sid the kid, pittsburgh has a new king
you know who

rumor has it they are going after upton from the diamondbacks, i'll take that shit, one more starting pitcher would be golden as well, not going to give up on karstens or corriera, but bedard is making me nervous and surely burnett will come september

i'm excited for post all star game baseball for the first time in 10 years i can't believe it and the rest of the season will be laced with anticipation
and it's kind of a shame i'm rooting along with loser steeler's fans, whatever, even step sisters can get along

also, lets go:
nats
mets
braves
tigers
indians
O's

fuck you philles, fuck you long time

resize my image and see what happens mod'bro'ators

I think the Reds are gonna win the NL Central, and Im gonna laugh if the Pirates dont make the playoffs. Way to crown them way too early, considering the same team was in the same position last year and fell the fuck off in a hurry after the all star game, which is tomorrow coincidentally

they havn't been in this position since 1997, last year i'm pretty sure they were just slightly above .500 and definitely not in first place...... this is not the same team(younger players have developed, 2nd year with coach hurdle, and some players you've never heard of, and the division is weaker than last year, also we get an extra wildcard this year

i didn't crown anyone...and yeah the idea of melting down will always be instilled in my head, all my fucking teams treat me the same

excuse my enthusiasm, if the phillies had 19 straight losing years, maybe you'd understand

enjoy your 138 million dollar payroll...every phillie fan i know used to bitch about the yankees 'buying' teams, how the tides have turned
pirates payroll isn't even close to half of that IIRC

only good thing to come from the phillie's org was harry kalas and not so much for his phillie's play by play, but his voice overs with NFL films

holy shit Andrew McCutchen is phenomenal!

I can't believe the Pirates are doing so well, and most importantly looking so good... and hitting so well! DAMN!

I should be hitting up a Pirates game in the Burgh coming up pretty soon... their success is going to make my visit all the sweeter!

if we make the playoffs i seriously want the park to give out like '3x'3 jolly rogers attached to a stick, at least to the first 20k fans

and you thought it looked cool when everyone was waving a yellow towel....
well hell even i did when i had to work concessions at all those steeler games back in '06-'09 for class requirements

i would fucking love to attend a NLCS or WS game at PNC park, i'd throw down $500....but the thing is about traveling and ponying up for a playoff game in any sport is that you can go home depressed(blow a 5 run lead during game 7) and will more than likely suffer serious long term traumatic cognitive damage

i remember back when they drafted mcCutch....they showed footage of him and i was like ughhh wtf that kid can't swing worth shit....well turns out his hands are telepathic lighting bolts....good to see neil walker playing well again, again i remember when they drafted him, he was a catcher, hometown guy....just waiting for pedro alvarez is reach his potential, i feel like he can be a 30 hr guy...i'm sure he will one day, one a different team ala jose bautista

definitely not in first place......

way to follow the team, they made a big deal about it on Sportscenter (must have been a slow day) and their season went down the drain after that controversial play at the plate

Still not even close to the Yankees, if the Pirates sold out every game for 3 years in a row maybe they'd be more willing to spend on guys.

nice research

yeah i dunno i wasn't that into them last year even though they were playing well, i was in poor mental health at the time and didn't really give a fuck about pro sports...i was aware wasn't really a believer....i'm a believer this year, for reasons stated earlier...gotta add how awesome it is they lead the majors in home record, 34-19 baby

and with selling out games, you don't sell tickets when you put out an awful team for 19 straight years....thing is they DID make money, i think one of the most profitable clubs in the league, they just refused to spend it, their previous front office came off as huge scammers

if the pirates had a five year run of greatness i gurentee they would sell out every night cause the 'burgh is just as nuts with their teams as philly and that ball park only holds like 39k tops....you gotta understand too philly has a population that i think is more than two times that of pittsburgh, small market teams will never keep up with NY/bos/philly/LA

hey man don't let me interfer from you rooting for the bucs, they are a damn fine feel good story, i think most of america wants to see them play well
and as much as i hate the phillies back when they first broke through i didn't hate them yet, cause they sucked for awhile and i got to see howard, utley, brett myers, and some others play in scranton when the red barons were the phillies AAA squad....i started hating them when they were good and my mom and brother are phillies fans and i just can't stand either of their favorite sports teams

phillies have the worst home record in baseball

I could never root for a team from Pittsburgh

excited for home run derby

wish we were still in the steroid era though

not gonna count out my man mccutch....just think of garrett anderson and abreu a few years ago, not really power hitters but damn they made that shit look so effortless and smooth

i don't know what it is about my teams and having stars with the long dreads...'04-'06 u of minnesota with marion barber and laurence maroney(best damn running duo in big ten history ;)), steven jackson, and now mccutchen...i'm cool with it

oh and gopher's qb marques gray has dem dreads and he can potentially be a star, but only axl would understand
