Before everyone annoints them as the model for youth development people need to realise Dortmund nick players just like any other team.

Subotic was basically stolen from Mainz stolen by Klopp when he moved , Dortmund didnt "Develop" him
Sven Bender was another one who was nicked from 1860 Munchen when he was 16 years old, much in the way Arsenal tend to nick players from Barcelona
They also paid £15 million for Reus

Lets not pretend Dortmund do anything different to Real Madrid, they dont, they buy players as well, just on a different scale.

Bayern shouldnt really get too much stick either for signing Gotze, the lad was born in Bavaria , has admitted he grew up a massive Bayern fan and now wants to move back to his boyhood club,

Who can begrudge him that?

Everyone waxes lyrical about Bayern as well, but apart from Thomas Muller, Schweinsteiger and Lahm , none of their players are from Bavaria

Their future icon and captain Kroos is East German

Yeah but I think having an eye for a talent before they become huge and molding them into a hungry team is better than having an eye for someone who is clearly quite talented and youve noticed him because its hard not to, and all you have to do is put down the biggest number to outbid all your rivals, its a completely different concept.

You can tell with dortmund they are a strong team, they wanted it more really, even after losing goetze so early on. Also moving to your closest rivals is why he is getting so much stick, like what happened when there were rumours of rooney going to City, was never going to happen but imagine if it did, there was all ready an angry hate mob outside his house at the whisper at it, going elsewhere wouldnt have bothered anyone as much really.

It's different though Dortumund picked up a lot of youngsters from second division teams, kids who have not yet developed, they have excellent talent scouts who are able to find potentially good players. This is a completely different approach to let's say Mancini or Leonardo at PSG(he takes care of transfers) who basically get in the chase for any triple A rating players that's hot at the moment and just outbid all competitors. There's no ability in that

Think it just comes down to what you define as " developing" a player.

Arsenal nick plenty of 16 year olds. As do all major western european clubs.

Does a player develop from ages 15-18 or 18-21 ? etc etc

Shakhtar and Porto basically hoover up all the promising kids from South America and "nurture" them for 2 years and sell them at 300-800% profit to all the clubs that cannot take advantage of the work permit rules that they enjoy.

Today I read that Shakhtar want to sell Fernandinho for £25 odd million, a player that cost them less than £6.6 million.
Chelsea got in on the act last year as they realised someone from portugal or ukraine or russia would buy Oscar for a few million , especially when Internacional pumped up his buy out clause, so they just went in early and got him cheap.

At what age is it deemed that a big european club starts to "develop" players

Most of the clubs from Porttugal and Russia would argue they develop them by virture of signing them aged 17-20 and letting them get used to european football.

Barca have scored 4 goals at camp nou how many times?

84 times !!! since Pep was coach.

Problem is Pep aint there now, and tippy tappy is exposed for the rubbish it is.

Been saying it for almost 2 years but nobody listens

Thomas Muller is THE best young player in europe
Streets ahead of anything in England or Spain
Hands fucking down the best

The guy is truly world class, he can play inside right, up top with or beside as a winger or behind the striker in a 4-2-3-1
Amazing player
My favorite player ( and I dont even play football manager)

pretty fucking good namesake DJ as well !!!

I wonder would the result have been much different if Messi was fit and played both legs. Its a shame how a team can become so reliant on one player. I think he scores at least half their goals
Should be a good final. Its a shame that Dortmund are set to lose their talent, could winning a European Cup change that in any way ? I doubt it

Really sucks that Gotze might not be fit, along with Kroos ..thats 2 of the major talents in world football that might not be playing.

Personally I think Kroos is a better all round player than Gotze , but Bayern wont miss him as much

Wonder if Emre Can will get a run out in the final, that guy will be a total star sooner or later, I saw him in the under 17 world cup and he was streets above anyone else.
Emre Can already looks like a complete midfielder

Watch out for the name, this kid will be a star.

] Here's a novel way to approach Season Ticket prices from Bayern Munich...

Bayern Club President Uli Hoeness speaking last year on the issue of season tickets. A third of Bayern's ST's were £104.

"We could charge more than £104. Lets say we charged £300. We'd get £2m more in income, but whats £2m to us? In a tranfer discussion you argue about that sum for five minutes. But the difference between £104 and £300 is huge for the fan. We do not think the fans are like cows, who you milk. Football has got to be for everybody. Thats the biggest difference between us and England".

Thats Germany all over though innit.

12 x 0.5l bottles of Krombacher or Weihenstephaner Hefe are like 9 euros there.

Here its pushing £2.50 a bottle !!!

Cant wait for the CL final, priming myself with some old school german faves

even better is this beauty ....

Apart from their craptastic food and attempt to dislodge London as the financial center of the world with the terminally dull Frankfurt, I tend to like many things German, especially their shit hot techno and tech house scene, I even like our/their royal family

PS come on Chelsea !!!

Nothing competition, but if we get to the final im off the Amsterdamn for the final, even without a ticket !

Northern Lights :)

BTW
Welcome home Jose :)
& Fuck off Rafa ( one last time for emphasis)

Right then gonna watch this Chelsea match with a few K Ciders . I hope they win .
Oh yeah regarding developing players .

Lampard , Ferdinand , Carrick , J . Cole , G Johnson , DEfoe well we nicked him off Charlton but yeah The Hammers have a fine academy & Tony Carr is a genius .
Forgot a certain John Terry he was a West Ham Academy product , joined Chelski @ 14 .

All signed by claudio Ranieri, along with Makalele,Cech ,Robben and Duff.

Brilliant manager who put the pieces in place before Jose came along.
The guy still knows his players, he beat every club in europe to the signing of Lucas Ocampos as well.

I like Ranieri actually but you couldn't even give Tony Carr just a small bit of Credit . Ranieri wouldn't have been signing them if it weren't for Tony Carr O.B.E

Benfica 1-0 Fenerbahce

1-1 agg

If we got to final wont mind either, but we played Benfica last year and turkish teams are brilliant, so much passion both on and off the field, so would love to meet them in the final in Holland

Their fans are big smokers as well :)

Damn I hope Benfica don't win the Europa League, I read on some sports magazine that if they do, Portugal's UEFA coefficient is going to increase and bring the country above us, we already deservedly lost our place to Germany, but really getting behind Portugal too would be a tragedy. I support a team that's usually relegation fodder if not in Serie B, so really I shouldn't care but I don't mind teams like Napoli in the CL, if we keep on going down we'll lose Europa League places and might even lose the third CL spot.
