Figured I'd kick this off:

Currently making my way through the following and would love to hear other thoughts:

J Mascis - Several Shades of Why
The Mountain Goats - All Eternals Deck
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
The Rural Alberta Advantage - Departing

I love J Mascis and Rural Alberta Advantage albums so far.

Trying to get into Mountain Goats but having trouble.

PJ Harvey, I love her, but this album is mediocre for me.

I love J Mascis, but I thought the album was kinda bland. I dunno, I always compare his work back to Dinosaur Jr. and those might be some unrealistic expectations.

Anywho:

Explosions in the Sky - Take Care, Take Care, Take Care
The Poison Tree - The Poison Tree
Earth - Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1
Grails - Deep Politics
Akron/Family - S/T II: The Cosmic Birth and Journey of Shinju TNT
David Lowery - The Palace Guards

The Grails, David Lowery, and Akron/Family albums are all great. I didn't really like Cracker (you know, the "Hey! Hey! Hey! Like being stoned!" guys from the 90s), but David Lowery's solo album is very cool.

The Explosions album is kinda...eh. I haven't listened to it much, it kinda disappointed me because I had pretty high expectations for the album. Look up The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place if you've never heard of them. Great trip music.

I haven't listened to the Poison Tree album yet, but they released an amazing video for their song "My Only Friend" set to a really great scene from Orson Welles' movie "A Touch of Evil". Check it out, if only from the brilliant cinematography: The Poison Tree - "My Only Friend"

The Earth album is ok. It got great critic reviews but it doesn't seem any better than Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull. But, then again, the only time I ever listen to Earth is when I'm tripping, and this album is perfect for that. It takes a lot of drugs to make Earth fun to listen to.

Very nice thread idea :) I'll have to compile what I've acquired from 2011 thus far and get back to this thread.
You also have inspired me to listen to the new Mt Goats album which is on my hard drive but hasn't been spun yet.

Digging the new PJ Harvey.
Also new Dirtbombs album, Party Store is a ripper: all covers of classic detroit techno tunes.
Lykke Li's latest (wounded rhymes) is better overall than her first, I think.
I'll be getting the new Radiohead and the new Kurt Vile records next week so I'm looking forward to hearing them.
I've only heard a couple of songs from the Jay Mascis so it's currently too hard to judge.

Locally (australia), Orbweavers debut is really nice, as is Adalita's.

^^ Will check that out.
I have now it s pretty dope.
What is your opinion on Riches ,Royalty , Respect ?
Not exactly 456 or Live n Let Die , but still worth a listen .

PJ Harvey is one of my favourite artists , so i'm gonna be biased but i do like her new Album. She always trys something different rather than making the same stuff cos it sells , which she could do , i respect her for this.

New Black Lips album, Arabia Mountain is a little disappointing
New Wooden Shjips, West is a ripper.
New Beirut, Rip Tide is not a lot different to his other stuff but I love what he does so I am enjoying it.
The new, self-titled Bon Iver album isn't as good as For Emma.... but it's still pretty nice.
Apocalypse, Bill Calahan's latest release is good.
I think I am over Panda Bear.
I'm fairly new to the Mountain Goats but I am enjoying All Eternals Deck.

Anyone listen to the new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah album "Hysterical?"
I'd highly recommend it.

^listening to it now. So far so good. I was disappointed with their last album. This one sounds promising.

I must say I love all three releases equally. The new one is definitely closer to the first then it is the second album, though.
But as far as Hysterical goes it certainly is more matured & well produced.
The production took their Lo-fi sound and turned it into an almost shoegaze/dream pop wall of sound.
"Into your Alien Arms" highlights the development, I would say.

And to Myst - It's such an awesome album right. Did you enjoy their self titled from 2009?
I find it ironic that my favorite songs on each album happen to be the first tracks.

Mastodon's new album "The Hunter" came out yesterday, just started listening to it. Apparently they dropped a lot of the proggy-ness from their last album, which is probably a good thing.

It was hard to think of an album in my playlist that isn't from the last century, but I found one.
Better yet, it came out months ago!

Kickass Brazillian Psychobilly...

Idk if anyone hear liked Blink 182 growing up, their self titled album was great. Their new one Neighborhoods came out this month, it's ok. Also Foo Fighters came out with their album Medium Rare with was blah in my opinion.

Uh, the Foos released "Wasting Light" this year...not real sure what "Medium Rare" is. I quite liked "Wasting Light", too. Sounded like a return to their earlier sound with a bit of QOTSA thrown in.

medium rare is a cover album with a few new tracks thrown in. Wasting light was good but not their best imo. Every artist has those one or two ablums that you just love, so it's hard to have a favorite artists or old favorites top their own.
