2009 MLB thread! play ball...

Rollie Fingersss. Yea too bad your owner is a fucking idiot, you guys were really on your way to becoming the second biggest dynasty in baseball till you got rid of reggie and every other good player.

Damn dude, you sound pretty angry about that.

The Swingin' A's of the 70s were a bit before my time since I was born in '83, but I'm more familar with all the history. Charlie Finley was a crazy bastard and a cheap fuck. He tore apart great group of young players because he didn't want to lay down the money. Oh well, it sucks, I hate it, but what can you do?

lol yea sorry didnt really mean tom come across that way, but yea its ashame what finely did to that team. Def one of the top 5 greatest teams in history IMO when they were together, rocking the moustaches. But like you said nothing you can do just move on. OO yeea and sorry for your loss with holliday lol not sure it was too great of a loss tho.

as a red sox fan who works in new york with a load of yankees fans as both customers and coworkers, the last two nights have been very exciting at work :)

My White Sox had the road trip from hell and turned it into just that. I can't wait for the metrodome to implode.

The Red Sox need to get Beckett back in form and Dice-k back in the rotation- the A.L. east looks like it's gonna be clinched by the Yankmees but with the way the Sox have been swinging the bats lately all they need to get throught the post season is some quality starts from Beckett, Wake, and Dice-K. Bucholz has been pitching like a major league starter and Lester has been pitching aces and with everyone hitting top to bottom and with the addition of Victor Martinez switch hitting and Youkilis and Drew getting hot the Sox should be able to really tire out some pitching

^ dice-k is back and his first outing looked good.

did anybody watch the red sox 9-8 win over the angels last night? on the last play of the game, gonzalez hit a bloop which dropped just in front of the angels left fielder to score the winning run. it looked to me like the angels fielder just gave up on the ball - it looked, to me, like he had a pretty good chance of catching it with a little effort.

thoughts?

^it looked like a dive would've been a good move, but the story out here is the previous AB w/ Nick Green getting some lucky calls. Twice the Angels thought the game was over but a ball was called. Fuentes even went as far as saying Umps may be scared to make that call in Boston. Those two pitches did look like strikes...but whatever. I don't really care about the Angels. :)

nor do i care about the sox. ;)

i didn't see it, but i wouldn't be surprised. it happens from time to time, unfortunately. i often see plays where i think "come on!!! i would have caught that!" and not even in that 'everybody thinks they should have been a pro' kinda way, but there really are catches that i think should be made from time to time that are completely dogged. you know, alasdair, you've watched manny play enough times.

The Tigers are just begging to get caught. It's a good thing the AL central is the worst division in baseball.

I'm a cincinnati reds fan. My life has sucked for years and will likely continue to for many more to come :(

try being an indians fan. :(

nary a world series win since 1948.

and in 1997 we should have beat the marlins in game 7, but threw it away on some shitty defensive play. then when we finally get close to the series again in 2007 (up 3 games to 1 against the mighty bosox in the ALCS) we blew the lead letting them win three straight. the two following years were a disaster. we've since lost everyone worth keeping short of grady sizemore and become a perennial rebuilder. what a fucking failure. :\

A *bump* out of pity to North America's most overrated sport.

PHENOMENAL Game Five tonight involving teams from the two biggest markets, with another well-loved team awaited the winner in the World Series, with a rare chance to repeat.

And yet this pathetic thread about "America's Pastime" almost fell off the first page.

Imagine that happening to an NFL thread within an hour after a phenomenally played NFC Championship, with a big name team like Pitt or New England or Indy waiting in the wings to face them in the Super Bowl.

Baseball, like rock n roll, is DEAD.

Yes, because a thread on bluelight is indicative of an entire continents sentiments.

attendance at baseball games has been trending upwards since 1980. indeed, it may have been trending upwards since long before that - that's as far back as i looked.

another significant metric - world series television ratings - have also been trending upwards since 1985.

i'm with maxpowers - the fact that a bunch of drugged-up bluelighters didn't bump a thread doesn't mean baseball's dead...

Wow i haven't been in this thread in ages. Life happened. lol

OK dodgers. wtf?.......

I have to say Cliff lee pitched one AMAZING game..

i hope the phillys loose.
