Mmmhmm. I mean, the rugby world cup? Are you serious? lol

Yeah, worst suggestion ever. Seriously.

And I'm considering going to the Rugby World Cup.

[When I say worst suggestion, I mean for this crowd - a game that has no meaning for (almost all) Americans, and is damn hard to understand for the uninitiated, and which they have no emotional investment in any of the teams].

btw, how expensive is Amsterdam? Surely we could get hostel rooms for $30-40US/night? (Lonely Planet says 15-50 euros/night for cheap accomodation). That's not incredibly expensive for a week or so, surely?

Viva la difference

why would a bunch of bl'ers go to a sporting event?

If you don't limit yourself to staring at a screen and beating off to Lara Croft, and decide to experience all of life's beauty, you might get laid alot more.

It must be a lounge thing. Don't worry Booger, the jocks don't know where you are hiding. Go Tri-Lams!

For me BL provides a unlimited source of hot raver chicks, who I can then introduce to the intricate dance that is the rolling maul and scrum, thus allowing me to hold a meaningful conversation post-coital (I don't smoke cigarettes and there are always those silent moments otherwise).

Science, art, sport and mother nature. You are missing out if you think the highlight of the week is alot of heavy breathing playing online. Get a suntan geek!;)

lol i get laid just fine, and i haven't played a video game more than 60 minutes since i've been a pre-teen. A geek i am, science and art i can appreciate... but yeah, i see nothing to appreciate in sports, meathead ;)

I'm not just talking hotel rooms. For Americans getting a simple coca-cola in Amsterdam is about $5. A meal that would be normally about $16 came out to around $50. Travelling includes food, drugs (which I understand will be cheaper), club entry fees, transportation fees, AND boarding. I'm just worried people are going to pay for their flights without realizing they'll probably need just as much money (if not more) as the flight cost to actually stay in Amsterdam comfortably.

Amy: that's why we've got three years to save :). If you put aside $10/week, you should be covered for at least a week's partying.

Remember, the USA will be just as costly for the Aussies, given the exchange rate (except I guess food will be cheaper). And btw, those prices seemed kinda weird - $5 for a coke would be way, waaay more expensive than anywhere in Europe I've been (though I haven't been to A'dam, so who knows?). Maybe you were in the cheesy tourist ripoff part of town?

Anyway, it doesn't have to be the 'dam. Prague could be a good choice, as some have said - and it's a lot cheaper.

I've just got back from a Europe trip, which included the Netherlands. Amsterdam really isn't that expensive. My Aussie dollars coped just fine, and they're worth a hellavolot less than your Yankee dosh.

Accomodation is so-so. If you've willing to go backpacker stylee it's very cheap. More up market accomodation is varialbe, though you can get some great last-minute specials. Compared to Australia though, accommodation in most of Europe (even YHAs) is more expensive.

Food is ok. Steer clear of trendy cafes and go for the cheap as hell and delicious Indonesian places. Compared to England, food and eating out are really quite affordable, and the quality is far superior.

I'm up for the 'Dam. Or Costa Rica... I used to live there *wistful*

I think most people are probably aware that they have to fund food and other expenses once they get there. I didn't find the netherlands to be that expensive compared to the rest of Europe.

The exchange rate is a bitch but saving has it's rewards ;)

<3

I don't remember Amsterdam being really expensive when I went, but that was 5 years ago maybe. If it's anything like England, everything will be about twice as expensive.

Prague was really cheap when I went there but that was 6 years ago and the dollar has fallen since then. My dad said things were def. not as cheap when he went again last year. I would love to go there again but having a big meet-up there knowing about the police attacking festival-goers makes me nervous :\

Eeewwww... Wagamamas is nasty, greasy crud. But yeah, there's plenty of similar-themed restaurants in 'dam.

Wagamama rocks here, odd.

Very clean + nice food.

Haha, I'll go, would be interesting to watch at the least! And I'll be, ooh, 22 by then so I might even have some semblance of cash or responsibility!

*bounces*

This is going to be great. Amsterdam is a fantastic choice, although if peope are worried about accommodation prices and fod availability (not to mention climate) then Barcelona might be a good place to go to as well. Such a brilliant city!

Anyway wherever it is I'm down like a clown. Roll on 2009! =D

How about getting a villa/castle in some cheap eastern European country? I remember harry once knew about something like that.
