2000+ mg Daily Diphenhydramine

Sometimes i can't even belive claims like this haha. The one time i took 300-400mg of diphenhydramine was definatly one of the worst drug experiences of my life.

One thing you have to take into consideration is the fact that many people react much differently to this chemical . Specifically diphenhydramine is what I am talking about . Me, naturally, without any previous tolerances, taking 300 mg would produce effects similar to friends of mine taking say, 50mg .

No lies :|

Yeh I think so too, but we'll give him/her the benefit of the doubt.
If you take that much diphenhydramine, you are risking rebound allergies to say the least! Histamine has a strong stimulating effect on the brain, it that, like dopamine, an "aerosol" of histamine is sprayed over diffuse areas of the brain, which regulates waking states (circadian). Fucking with this system is going to be just as bad as what happens when the dopamine system burns out due to, for example meth. People coming off meth have screwed the dopamine "aerosol", and the symptoms ain't pretty. You're risking the same thing, but without any real high!

Very interesting; this must be why people who long term abuse this crap become permanently delerious; almost like a drug induced paranoia ? histamine induced ?

^ It shuts down your brain. Thats why you become delirious. I can't find it now, but a while ago i read about some evidence that suggest diphenhydramine shuts down sections of your brain, hence why you lose motor function and the ability to talk at some points.

Talk about brain damage. I think next to inhalants, benadryl is the most detrimental to your health.

Ive taken doses that high numerous times myself, but never every day! i too have a massive tolerance to anti histamines.

when ever i got past the 2000mg limit, I would be pretty much screwed up for the next half day. Then just drained for the other half.

Theres no reason to believe this person is trolling.

I was addicted to diphenhydramine for four years. Began taking it when I first got on suboxone - at doses of around 100mg a night. It gave me a nice body high and a mild sense of euphoria - more so than benzos usually give me. Only problem is it's a drug you gotta do alone. It fucked with my social skills and made me socially retarded when I took it around other people - like I didn't want to talk to people and felt like I had to force out each word.

Over time I increased from 4 to 25 pills a night - so from 100mg up to 625mg. The only real good part of the high was the first 45 mins, but I must say it was enjoyable enough that I had a hard time kicking it.

I dropped my dose over the course of a few months and found that tolerance to diphenhydramine drops rapidly. I got a similar effect off of 50mg as I did off 400mg.

I finally quit it two months ago - and didn't notice any rebound insomnia of withdrawals. But by then I was down to 25mg a night.

I don't have any brain damage it seems, but while you're on it in high doses you begin to feel a little off all the time, and my anxiety increased and I started having these mini-panic attacks that would hit me like a semi. not sure if the two are related, but probably.

I think the doses you are taking could cause brain damage if you continue. Try tapering by a pill a night - you won't notice any discomfort beyond a desire to take more.

Either this person is completely insane or a troll. Diphenhydramine is not something to take lightly.

The most I've taken is 250mg in a single setting and it was the single worst drug experience of my life, I felt like a zombie for 36 hours afterwords. If you're taking 2000mg a day you've gotta be doing some serious damage.

This guy can't be serious. That's 40 friggen 50mg pills a day. He'd be beyond delirious.

BEYOND Delirious indeed from that amount of diphenhydramine. Talk about Brain Damage.

I had a friend who abused benadryl. Hes fucking nuts now. Totally bonkers. At least he was, been sober for a while - but he still sees life like DPH hallucinations while sober all the time, Last time i was with him he was asking me if we were passing a water tower - we weren't.

seriously!!! people take benadryl to get high these day wow not that i am any better than anyone (opiate addict now on methadone maitenence) but damn!!! that just sounds stupid as hell to me. some one with a benadryl prob now thats something new

Been taking Diphenhydramine for almost a year at doses around 450 - 500 mgs but never have I dosed around 1,000 and the time i did I was blown out of reality not knowing what was up so it was no help to me. Even at 450 mgs and having a know how on this substance It's hard to believe someone taking 2,000 mgs of this.

At 500 mgs i get blurred vision and dry mouth that I just cant stand and this very unsettling feeling in the back of my throat. No hallucinations that I'm aware of and if so I would say audible. Still 500 mgs is very unappealing to me.

Stop taking it. Please for the sake of harm reduction, just stop. DPH was not intended to be used in this way when it was placed OTC. It can and will cause brain damage, not chemical imbalances like many other drugs cause but legitimate damage.

Please just see a doctor and seek proper advice on how to go about dealing with this. I'm not sure if stopping cold turkey would be dangerous or not so i don't want to tell you either way. Just please don't keep doing this to yourself. Do you really think those side effects you're experiencing are "okay" and "normal" or something?

This is perhaps the most bizarre thread I've ever seen on Bluelight. Seriously guys, get off diphen, even if you were to substitute it for a benzo/opiate addiction you'd be doing your brains a big favor.

Indeed this is a strange thread. These are the kind of threads that I always hope i'll chance upon here.

However, it's hardly difficult to find reports of individuals with absurd addictions to benadryl... Erowid has half a dozen. Apparently it can happen. I wasn't able to find any medical literature about it, but there are enough anecdotal reports that I have no reason to suspect the OP is trolling. Some people find diphenhydramine to be recreational and start on in that way, and some get hooked on it to sleep in ever-escalating doses.

Yeah, it is recreational, but just barely. Like I said before, anything above 250-300mg just stops being fun. Seriously, tripping on DXM is probably safer than this.

(I know it's probably not, but there is a reason these things are OTC, use them as intended...and maybe a few other things, but ugh, eat some damn Datura or get an orphenadrine IV if you really like anticholinergics).

To the OP, who I still at least partly believe is trolling, if you are taking that much DPH, stop use and see a doctor. Now.

Just goes to show pharma companies and the government don't give a rats ass about the health implications of drugs, licit or illicit. They care about money, and reputation. They can't patent illicit drugs, so even though a large portion of them are far less dangerous than even OTC drugs let alone prescription drugs, the government hides behind reasons like "detrimental to health and blah blah blah, racist bullshit, etc." to make them illegal. They find a few isolated incidents that caused a death or something, make sure news papers publish about it, then they introduce legislation to make a harmless substances schedule 1, and bam the substance is illegal. Mean while thousands upon thousands of people are being killed by far more deadly prescription drugs every year.

/anti fascist rant

Anyway, DPH addiction has got to be SERIOUSLY detrimental to ones health and brain function.
