2 Workers, 2 Patrons Shot To Death At NY Pharmacy

FRANK ELTMAN 06/19/11 10:05 PM ET

MEDFORD, N.Y. — Police have released the names of four people shot to death at a pharmacy on New York's Long Island during an apparent robbery.

Suffolk County police say the dead included two employees, a 17-year-old woman and 45-year-old man, and two customers, a 33-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man

The massacre happened Sunday morning inside a family-owned pharmacy in a small cluster of medical offices in Medford, a middle class hamlet about 60 miles east of New York City.

Police rushed to the scene after getting a 911 call from someone in the pharmacy's parking lot. When they arrived, they found the four victims dead.

Investigators believe that a single gunman armed with a handgun was responsible for the shooting. They say he fled the pharmacy carrying a black backpack.

I don't think this story necessarily involves drugs, unless new information comes out.

If I was a pharmacist, I'd pack heat.

The guy doing the shooting must have been really pissed to shoot up the place. Im hypothetically thinking that the werent giving over the drugs & the guy made a point of shooting people to get the point across, but im just guessing on what happened.

Fucker deserves to be hanged.

4 different families lost someone because of a trigger happy junkie.

Sad story indeed.

... Shoot below the belt if you must, don't be killing people for your habit.

Definitely a sad story. Too bad this guy is giving a bad, well worse name for junkies. I am sure he will get caught. I would like to know if he is a user or seller.

Follow-up from the local news;

"The shooting suspect stole painkillers during the attack, according to a law enforcement source.

The suspect made off with addictive "Oxycodone-like" medications and did not take any money from the register during the robbery, the source said."

Sounds like the pharmacist tried to be a hero and lost out. First day training of any retail job give the robber whatever he wants insurance will take care of the losses. Im only speculating of course Ill be waiting for the official story. This is the reverse of the pharmacist who killed the robber that we discussed last week

nothing is known as of now, but I'd wager that none of the victims were armed. It's impossible to own a gun in NYC, and I suppose Long Island is similarly repressive.

they make it hard even for pharm-employees?! that's insane imo
/i was granted a large-capacity license in MA while in college, due to the nature of my job (freelance personal trainer)

In NYC I think 2500 people have handgun permits (not concealed carry, just handgun; someone fact-check this please). The state of NY is generally very hostile to guns, but NYC is completely crazy that way. Plaxico Burress just did 2 years after he shot himself in the foot, and a year ago in Manhattan a dry cleaner who kept a sawed-off under the counter was robbed by 4 guys with 9mms. The 4 were pistol-whipping customers and staff and threatening to kill when the owner killed 2 of them and ran off the other 2. Last I heard he was being prosecuted for having the sawed-off.

Turns out that this was really about drugs after all.

A massive manhunt ranged across Long Island on Monday for the drug fiend who massacred four people in cold blood at a family-owned pharmacy so he could steal some painkillers.

A newly-installed security camera caught the killer shooting the victims, one by one, at close range on Sunday morning.

The victims, ranging in age from 71 to 17, "were shot very suddenly, and very quickly," said Police Commissioner Richard Dormer.

"They offered no resistance and did not appear to provoke the assault. They were all shot at close range," he said.

"It's the most vicious crime that I have encountered."

wait, what?

ya, full-on conceal carry / hi cap. permit
/my reasoning was that i got paid cash, and sometimes i'd train people at their homes / small+local places where it wasn't too public, and i'd frequently be uncomfortable carrying the cash
//was dumbfounded when i realized the permit was good for like 5yrs after i got outta school 8o

I don't know why I can't find any links to larger pics of the suspect. I can barely make out what he looks like from the tiny pictures, coupled with the hat.

Edit: I just looked at the cover of the newspaper and he is on it. Still a shitty picture, but I am sure that anyone that knows him would recognize him.

My pops got a bullet-proof vest courtesy of proper legal/law enforcement channels for occupation-related reasons (location of employer).

^ Thanks. I give him 2 days before he is caught.

I wonder if he grabbed any rigs. And I am assuming the "oxycodone like opiate" is oxymorphone. I don't know why they aren't just saying what it is.

His picture is up & there are close ups. Someone will recognize him. Always wondered why clowns like this never wore ski masks & then you dont gotta shoot anyone.
