Opioids 17 year old in need of help!

Dude I'm seventeen years old as well. I had my huge opiate phase at one point in my life but I still use them just not as hard. I was also using stronger doses than you and my parents didn't even know shit and they still don't. I ended up in withdrawal numerous times from oxycodone, hydrocodone and roxicodone. It was hell but I made it through. Honestly the first two days were hell, throwing up and everything but once you get past 48 hours to 72 hours its not that bad. I would just do that instead of ending up screwing yourself over with your parents making you go to rehab and blah blah blah. Trust me withdrawal does suck but then again you will be able to do it. By the way quit while you're ahead. Doing all these drugs at this age fucks up a lot of things.... I mean I still made it through school but it was far from a walk in the park. So I just say go cold turkey or taper off the oxycodone... but remember you can easily end up on the path again to relapsing cause I have already.... I mean I didn't want to be totally sober but I really don't want to get back into an everyday thing but then again something tells me to shut up and just go get high as much as you can. It's not easy especially when you do this in secrecy....like hardly anyone knows and your parents have no clue.

Dear OP, it looks as if u havnt been on since Sun, but I will respond anyhow. For starters I don't feel this is going to be easy to keep ur parents from knowing. If u can cold turkey n keep them from it that is best, but unlikely. Ask them for help with a tapering schedule-(u n help on BL make schedule-folks supply amts). I think it is a bad idea to get urself flagged as an opiate addict at ur age. Avoid that, n u can only avoid that by getting ur problem under control. Things may be bad now, but they can get much worse very fast. I really believe u need the support of ur family unless they will treat u horribly. Once tapered off, I am sure u will need continued support, so please look into NA or another type of help that does not flag u w/the medical community. Ur habit is actually quite large regardless of what others have said on here n I don't believe u can do this alone. Of course we are here on BL n please check out the Dark Side forum for a lot more support. PM me if u feel I can answer or help u in any way. I am an OP addict (3 month clean, n the mother of an OP addict). My heart n support r with u. You will find a way out of this.

Man, im 17 as well. I also used to steal pills from my parents till they caught on, we never talked about it. Come clean with them, if they are understanding they will help you wean off of them. Maybe you could do drug tests to help earn their trust?

Whether or not you come clean with your family is your choice; your's and your's alone. Realistically, their knowledge of the circumstances would [probably] be to your benefit in regards to getting clean, as they would have a clearer perspective of your situation and could assist you in getting through it. If you avoid telling them, you face the challenge by yourself, which to you might be better, might be worse, I don't know, its up to you. But obviously honesty is best.

At the risk of sounding cliched, you are too young to have such a habit, but at least you are aware of it. It's my opinion that the best approach would be to get yourself a very small quantity of Benzo's, like Xanax, Klonopin, Ativan, etc.- get some loperamide (Immodium) and go cold turkey. You will feel awful, but after four or five days you'll start to feel better, and being as young as you are your metabolism will shorten the process that much more, as compared to someone older in the same situation. Make a clean break. Maybe taper down if you have the means to do so, but don't drag it out too much, and don't please don't consider Suboxone maintenance, not for this. You are young, and if you do it right, you can easily move on, away from this period in your life. There's so much ahead; really the best years are right up ahead IMO. Trust us, you do not want to drag an opiate addiction along with you into those years soon to come.

Some good advice and some bad on here, I first started my Opiate habit at 15 and now I'm 32 yrs old and still battling my addition, and without me frightening you I can honestly say that now it feels as though its to late although i know deep down its not.
Never give in, try your best as always, also by the sounds of things your parents are opiate addicted also so coming clean to them would be the best way in my book.It depends on how they are, going through something like this on your own is no fun at all,and I no its not going to be easy to come clean I just hope U can go to them for the support, hence becoming a member on Bluelight and getting the correct support from your family and peers.
Just remember realistic goals are possible but unfortunately miracles aren't, so I would try my best at tapering down to the point were U feel in control again without getting sick,.Speaking and getting support is optional,I no a problem shared is a problem halfed and I know my parents were, and still are very much against drugs and most probably the reason I'm still a pay day user (whilst on a methadone script) is due to their ignorance and me never getting the responses for my cry's for help.

Like someone said if your folks are good enough , and by the sounds of things if there on Opiate/opioid medication then they have to give u the support u need, were as mine are totally against, and blissfully ignorant.Just remember also to try keep active so that your mind is taken off taking |Opiates, find a new hobby if possible, eat well, and excersize I'm a great believer in exercising, it releases good endorphins and will help your recovery.

I understand U can only do these kind of things if on a taper, or on a still good amount, but full blown WD, by your self I wouldn't advise, because it could put U off all together from becoming clean, and can be very disturbing physically and mentally without the right help.

Also its about changing old behaviours, and replacing them with new ones, it all sounds easy but I know it feels almost impossible.Just remember to keep strong, and optimistic, I hope U dont follow the same path as me, I'm on Methadone, and still use today when I have the money , I find the cash is my biggest trigger and I realise that you are not on street drugs which will also be a good start,Find new friends, were as I am a loner due to my drug addiction, users in the past have been far from real friends so I choose to stay well clear.

I hope your family will stand by U,I also dont recommend U swapping over to another substances either because it will still cause U problems ie, Cannabis, I found that Cannabis still left me with alot of mental problems and it enhanced whatever I was going through after smoking it for 15 yrs plus, so just try taper with support, its about being in control if possible and I know how hard it is.People say its harmless Cannabis alone, and for some ppl it is, but everyone is different, and it didn't help me as much as I wanted it to, now I'm just a part smoker of Cannabis, or on special occasions, using it daily definitely caused me more harm than good, were as some ppl it will work wonders just my thoughts all the best, I hope things work out, and remember be strong, and its about taking small reaslistic steps at a time, its a marathon and not a sprint.

bro, you have the rest of your life ahead of you. do not get sucked into opiate addiction, it will ruin your life and years will pass by like nothing. you can beat this thing.

go to a NA meeting and listen to how opiates have ruined peoples lives. i dont want to see someone your age ruin their life with addiction. again, get out now!

This is starting to get monotonous but I am 17 as well. I was in a very similar predicament and tried to taper myself off of fentanyl, oxy, hydromorphone and oxymorphone (all intransal) with methadone, roxies and subs but its something thats very difficult to administer yourself while in active addiction. I eventually came clean to my parents after they tested me for the first time ever, and i showed positive for oxy, methadone, and opiates, but explained it away as a mixup with some roxane labs generic percocet and methadone along with some codeine. They believed that but talked with my psychiatrist who reccomended outpatient, so i decided that if i was going to enter treatment, i should at least be honest and actually get the help i wanted ( albeit i was on 20mgs of xanax). Entered a detox on january 14th, and then moved on to a resedential program for a few months, and just moved back home a few weeks ago. It's going to be difficult at times, especially in detox (make sure to get on subs, with your tolerance i would say an 8-16 day taper starting at 20mgs), but in the end my life is finally in my hands, my parents trust me again, and doors are starting to open. I feel for you bro and I would imo you should bite the bullet and tell your parents, they already know youre using and will be relieved youre seeking help.

If you dont go into rehab you're only going to use again later on. I had just started using at your age, Im 21 now and go to a methadone clinic on 100 mg a day, only way i could get my life back. Even if your tapered off just having your parents divert their pain meds to you to taper you off isnt going to fix the mental component of addiction.

Find away of gaining some stability, be honest with family and peers and most of yourself, take small realistic steps and goals and taper, wish U all the luck. Its easy when somebody tells you just get off it, and go to some NA meetings, ppl with such habits and addictions need alot more support than just 1-2 meetings a week, I no this from personal experience.I was only 15 and now am going on 33 yrs of age and still fighting it, do not mean to be negative in any way,U are not me and probably have different surroundings and hopefully the right support.try your best to be positive, and remember small steps U should make some improvements. It will never pass only get easier and unfortunately U will be battling with this for the rest of your life.Having the right mental capacity is a big one and getting your head round it.I was successfully clean for over 3 yrs but just swapped over to alot of recreational drugs, and drink, however I still lead a more profitable life than now, Opiates really know how to change mankind and they aren't to be taken lightly, all the best.

With that large of regular dose your wd will be pretty bad. I recommend seeing a doctor immediately and getting on suboxone. Ive been an opiate user for years and 80mg is the most i ever take at once of hydro or oxy. The opiate game is not for you my friend stick with weed after you get over this.

get out now

i recommend going to a addiction specialist doctor and getting on suboxone.
i have a number of very close friends in varying stages of extremely severe opiate addiction some who have been trying to stop for nearly and 20+ yrs. another successfully quit smack at 20 having been using since she was 15 and it took a couple of goes but after that she has never relapsed. she accredits this to telling her family and they locked her in a room and went thru withdrawl. and then she went on suboxone.
i guess the best piece of advice is if u can possibly stay away from methadone then do it at all costs. my friends on it have said that it was the biggest mistake going with that rather than suboxone and its the ones who did go the suboxone route have managed to either put their addiction behind them or use in a moderate way occaisionally. It sounds like u are using them with the intended slow release? if u only have it once every 24hrs? this may help make the withdrawl process not quite so bad? but it will be hell. but it wont last forever.

you can do this dont let it ruin ur life. u can put it behind u and have a chance to do something more than spending the majority of ur life broke and hanging or doped off your head. the more desperate u become the more you surprise yourself and all of a sudden things that you would never have usually concidered remotely acceptable things for u to do to get it suddenly seems second nature and that you must do them. i am 23 in a few weeks)

(click below for my story if u can be fucked reading it.. couldnt work out how else to do a cut.. )

NSFW:
and i had a pretty heavy amphetamine habit in highschool from about 16 and vodka in the water bottle to school every since seventh grade (australia) aged around 12..and somehow i managed to scrape thru my final yr twelve exams and just managed to get into uni with a fine arts degree. i know that if i wasnt doing that i would have done so much better and maybe have been able to something like law (which really interested me) and seemed like a much better day job for a musican than to be a artist and muso.. still. i only just managed to scrape thru the first yr of my degree and some things i did very well in and others i just couldnt get it done as well as i would want because the drugs took over. i was studying full time and working 70hrs a week at a cafe to be able to pay my rent and support my habit. this left very little time for study. which meant very little sleep which caused me to crash and burn at the end of the yr right when it counted. i realised i could do so much better if i wasn't using. it was making me sick constantly sick, weak and causing alot of emotional strain with my relationships with family and friends.

I moved back in with mum and started to find something i wanted more. quitting for me was only possible when i replaced it with something else. for me it was excercise. i ran 2 hrs a day first thing and then went to the gym at least 4 hrs a day. i replaced my obsession with another obsession. which isnt probably the way. and after coming out the other side of an eating disorder i finished my degree went on to get first class honours, and write a thesis and then was part throu a masters degree and a second thesis when an old physical injury (that had ruined my music career and made me turn to drugs in the first place) flared up and i had to drop out.)

i moved states, started again only really knowing one friend. a close one) the ppl i met and where my friends with and proved to be the ones who where there for me when i needed a friend. some I realised they used others took me by surprise. we all lived in the same appartment block thats how we met.i was surrounded by it and managed to not let it ruin me then messy emotioal breakup and in the space of just this yr i went from having only used (speed/coke mainly ice rarely) occaisionally in party situations to an everyday habit shooting speed then ice and now smack. im studying again doing the first of 3 yrs of a sound engineering degree. i started it coz its been a dream for years but lately the drugs have just consumed me completely and i have lost alot of drive. and consequently im sure its obvious to other ppl and my school results and friendships have reflected that. even tho i have hidden it painstakingly and completely act dumb and not even talk when ppl talk about party drugs. i have lost nearly all of my friends appart the ones that use and including some who are trying to get clean because they want me to stop and cant handle it, all my money i can barely pay my rent let alone anything else. last week i ended up in hospital after being resuscitated from a heroin overdose. news travelled very fast just from friends of friends and neighbours seeing the ambulence. i was always an A grade student. it was pretty confronting watching some older friends and mentors find out. i just hope that i dont do it again and what if next time it doesnt work out so well? or my mum finding out that she nearly had to bury her only child? what if i do it again and that time it does kill me? how could i do that to the people that care about me? No good comes of this it just either gets worse and worse and then u either die or spend the rest of your life fighting it you dont try to stop until its so late in the game that so much damage physically mentally and socially that it feels impossible to overcome.

u can stop now use all the support that is available to u and taking that initiative to do that and not wait for yrs til u have wasted ur 20s on a path of destruction. which will then likely not end there. wen i finished school there was alot of kids who were a couple of yrs older and had been away in rehab or juvi and had made the choice to change their life. Strangely enough it was those that did the best hands down (4 of these who where my good friends all now have gone to uni or got some jobs that seemily only exist to those who are born into the priviledge and a tiny few who get there on hard work alone. which these kids definately did This has allowed them to be payed major money ( and tour the world getting paid for it) and have made more of themselves than those who never had any major addictions to begin with.and i will also say that Highschool was definately the worst yrs of my life. things get better.
you have your whole life ahead don't let urself throw it away out of being scared to/of the implications of reaching out and getting help. getting help will actually gain u respect in the long run daunting as it seems now. i have been trying to follow my own advice too (all of which has been imparted on me by friends who dont want to see me go down the same road as them ) you can do it. how ever hard it is it what u gain from doing it will be so worth it. goodluck. i have written a Really long reply so sorry for that. i guess i wish someone had said that to me when i was 17 but im not sure i would have listened. "everyone thinks it wont happen to me" until it does me included.

I wouldn't try to quit a 225mg oxycodone habit cold turkey, especially since you are 17 and about to be a senior in highschool... the withdrawal will be so bad and embarrassingly obvious and leave you so sick that you're likely to give in and get high to alleviate the symptoms. You really shouldn't do this on your own secretly.

First of all, come clean and tell your parents. They will be glad to help. and the longer you lie and keep secrets the WORSE your family relationships will become. I ruined my relationship and trust with my parents from a year shooting opiates in their home... they will find out eventually and it will get bad. so its great that you are seeking help for yourself right now... because the ONLY reason i got clean is because i destroyed my family and was given the ultimatum: get clean or get out... which would have been hard for me because i had a nerve damaged (non-functional) right arm and suspended drivers license so getting kicked out would have been a death sentence for me... i would have been homeless with no car and job. I say, ask for their help and get clean.

You DO NOT need rehab in my opinion. You need to get on a suboxone maintenance program that usually comes with monthly meets with a doctor for prescriptions and weekly visits with a drug counselor for therapy... in my opinion you DO NOT NEED REHAB because it would be a huge waste of money and time with or without insurance... if you get with the right doctor/program for suboxone this on its own would be sufficient treatment enough. rehab, followed by a continued maintenance program wouldn't be necessary... you can skip that step and just go straight for the suboxone...

Remember this is only an opinion however, some people swear by 12-step rehabs, although people are seeing more and more, with opiates in particular, that it is just not necessary.

it is great that you are seeking help, better now than ever. i really hope you succeed and think that its best not to do this on your own; tell your parents and seek out a suboxone doctor. I have been clean for 2 months from an IV oxymorphone habit and all i can say is that its been hard but i feel great and its getting better...
