15 yr old dies from 1 tablet of ecstacy dealer charged with murder

"One recent press report claims a ten year-old girl died after taking at least five 'ecstasy' tablets. Assuming the girl weighed about 40 kg (88 pounds) and the pills contained about 70 mg of MDMA each (and no other drugs), she died from a dose of roughly 9 mg/kg."

Jesus. A 10 year old girl took presumably 360mg MDMA? That's how much I take and I've been using for 4 years and taken over 300 pills. And of course it doesn't say the actual cause of death. I assume she was overheated/dehydrated.

Its not all about mg's per kilo of body weight. I mean there is a BIG difference between a 10 year old (or 15 year old) little girl and an adult user. The adult is more then just bigger and heavier. Children die all the time from fevers etc that an adult would be able to recover from. And guess what, E causes hyperthermia (aka increased body temp aka a fever)

It takes more judgement and knowledge to have a safe time with ecstasy then someone that young can posess. Kids need to let their minds develop before introducing psychotropic substances.
 
And to think, I could have sold her an XTC test-kit for five quid!
 
Well, she was 15... I don't mean to be cold, but what the fuck was she doing popping anyway? :|

Thats the thing with the black market it doesnt regulate itself with anything but quality and money. I did mdma when I was 15 hell I did 2c-I when I was 15 stupid and irresponsible yes but thats how drugs work.

I wondered about DXM, too. Scratching doesn't seem consistent with MDMA, at least in my experience.

We do know that (a few) people have died from one pill of pure MDMA, but usually those people die from dehydration or overheating, or possibly drinking too much water. Death just from MDMA seems very rare, though possible.

On a few other comments: in cases like this, where the victim is a girl or young woman, the first media reports often say that the victim was a first-timer, or even a non-user (you'll see claims that their drink must have been spiked). These are often disproven subsequently (the Leah Betts case someone mentioned is a good example, there are others in my research paper on media coverage of MDMA, linked in my profile).

Very sad for the girl, her friends and family. RIP. I also feel for the dealer - it's not like he held a gun to anyone's head and forced them to take a drug, so charging him with murder seems ridiculous.

duuuuuude! i was just about to post up a thread on this! i couldnt fuckin believe it. i heard the news last night but thought it was just a rumor til all my friends started calling me and then i went online and read the report on miami herald and just say the cw 10 o'clock news. let me start off by saying that its no surprise those people poured strawberry milk down her throat. they are from fucking hialeah. for all those who dont know what hialeah is, its a "city" within miami full of reffy ignorant people. i am myself hispanic, but def. not ignorant. these people cant even fucking talk right. on the news one of her friends was like "i dont know juuu know like i told her not to do it yo cuz i dont do bad things juu know...". need i say more? ok. second, there are sooooo many factors that couldve caused her death. thanks to the shitty news reports we can only guess which of these many reasons it was. well we can start off by scratching out hyponatremia. as far as the article and news reports mention, the girl did not consume large of amounts of water and there was no mention of her brain swelling. hyperthermia? can't say. no mention of highly elevated body temperature nor of the girl complaining of feeling hot. heart attack/stroke? maybe. the girl might have had a condition. was she on medication and/or other drugs? thats another possibility. my guess is that she had a rare severe allergic reaction to the mdma or to any of the other substances the pill was cut with. everybody's body reacts differently to different things. and judging by the news, it seemed it was her first time because she was asking her other friends what they thought and if she should do it or not. all in all i dont think it was the ecstasy alone that killed her. i had a friend who was 15 as well and i gave her a white octagon which are known to be pure and she rolled balls just fine. however, her second time wasnt quite so. she got these pills called white ferraris that i had a bad feeling about because no one i knew had taken them or knew anything about them and she took it anyways and got the EXACT symptoms this girl had minus the scratching. but she turned pale and her lips went blue and was nascious as well and she was about to go to the hospital but instead she waited it out (not very smart, she couldve ended up like this girl). so i knew that pill was cut with something nasty because she didnt react that way to pure mdma. as for the guy that sold the pills...i think he def should get plenty of years in jail for pushing pills he knew were shit.

I find it quite strange that you can write a post about the ignorance of people in this area and then say such a thing. We know nothing about this case, we are in the dark. For all we know, the dealer was selling 100% pure MDMA (well, OK, binders too) and something else caused her death. We have no right to blame him unless we oppose the distribution of MDMA completely... and I can't see anybody like that on here somehow. :D

um im just trying to promote the sale of clean, mdma only pills. i have no pitty for those who sell shitty pills just because they "wanted to make some extra money on the side". fuck them.

But how do you know this guy was like that? For all we know he was a fine upstanding member of the harm reduction community.
 
i doubt it. i live in miami and i must say that atleast 90% of people here dont know shhiiiiiit about mdma and its adverse effects. people just take the pill and thats it. people here believe in the "holes in you brain" myth. they dont know why you shouldnt drink to much water. they just know its "bad". they dont know about sodium imbalances, they dont know about clean pills, they think different pills have different effects, and i have to explain to them that mdma does not vary. if you're experiencing different effects from different pills its cuz theres other shit in your pills. honestly, very few people down here have really taken the time to do extensive research like i have and really know anything about ecstasy. oh and btw its a known fact: "all ecstasy pills contain cocaine and heroine" LMAO thats ignorance for ya.
