12mg Time Release Hydromorphone_what dose am I getting?

I'm prescribed 12mg every 12 hours + breakthrough tablets.
Does that mean I get 1mg per hour or 12mg per hour?
I take 12mg in tablet form at a time and it helps but the time release doesn't seem to help at all.
If I crush the beads will I get 12mg total?
Wanna be sure of how much I'm getting.

It means you're getting 12mg over the course of 12 hours. I'm better it's not totally linear, but also not a dump at any one point either.

You should be able to crush the beads inside and eat or (don't if you aren't already) insufflate them for quicker rate of action. Look at the bioavailability of hydromorphone to see (and then calculate) the difference in effectual doses.

Best bet is to ask your doctor about the particular mechanism of whatever HydroMorph Contin you're Rx'd. Given that he's giving 'em to ya - he's the one that should know best. (My doctor isn't too bright and didn't know how Tramadol actually works, so YMMV.)

You should also be able to find specific info by searching online (google) for your particular med.
