Like I said in the title, its a pill that's literally 12 years old. I looked it up, know exactly what it is. Its been in the bottle over the years.....so would it be harmful to eat?

Worst case scenerio, it's less potent. Best case it's the same mgs. But I'm bettin on the first scenerio.

Pretty much this. I worked as a pharmacy technician for almost 4 years and if anybody called in asking if they could take a medication that was past its expiration date the pharmacist would say as long as it doesn't have any mold on it from exposure to moisture, then it would be safe. Although like BabyGurl said, it can lose potency over time.

Are there any medications that decompose into something that is more potent/potentially toxic over a length of them that would make the expiration date a warning to be followed?

It should be absolutely fine. We can't make guarantees of course, but as long as it has been stored somewhere dry I can't see why it wouldn't be okay. The consensus of the thread seems to be that it won't lose potency either.
