I've been railing 3-4 30 mg rpid release oxys for the past year

I have 50 pills left and want to quit. Will tapering work? If I taper down to 7 mg/ day in say 2-3 weeks, will this prolong it?

If I follow these excellent guidelines, how long should I expect to go through it? These pills are the devils work! I'm neglecting my family work. . .life in general! It sux because I took my last oxy 5 days ago and suffered through but wouldn't you know, my "pharmacist" called to let me know he had something for me. . .god I almost didn't call him back. I thought I was 'different' from others and could will my way through it, but the addiction took over and I went over and picked up 50 pills today. This is it! I have no insurance, but I think I need a Drs help this next time around. And delete my doods number from my phone friggin spending <snip> for a 30mg instant release when I could be spending it on my family!

Hey K3nnyb,

If you haven't taken an oxy in 5 days then you have already gotten through the acute withdrawals and have no need to taper. Tapering is when you are still highly dependant and slowly ease of the drugs to limit withdrawal symptoms.

If you don't want the pills then just flush them, toss your hookups number, and focus on staying clean. There is not point on staying on oxy for another month before quitting if you don't want to. You can get some great support in The Healthy Living and The Dark Side forums on Bluelight as well.

If you know there is no way you can avoid taking the pills and just want to minimize any future withdrawals, you'll want to take as little as possible spread out over as long a time as possible. It sounds to me though like you are ready now and should quit while you are ahead an not put the 5 days of sobriety you have achieved to waste.

Good Luck!

Hey bro, tapering is a necessity here, but don't be fooled, there is no "easy way out." Using a taper schedule is a great idea here, but once you get down to very little, and "kick the habit," you will experience the extreme difficulty of PAWS. You will go through months of hardship while your body readjusts, but coming from someone who kicked an opiate habit, it is very possible to do. It takes a ton of will power, you will experience difficulty beyond all belief. You soon find out drugs take over every aspect of your life, finding your own happiness, re-learning to cope with problems without a crutch, natural sleep etc. are just a few of the obstacles you will have to overcome. Expect alot of insomnia, dysphoria, energy depletion and such on your way to recovery. Best of luck to you.

Edit: I overlooked the 5 day thing. If you are five days in, and can handle the physical symptoms, continue on. The mental symptoms take time, using the oxy to "fix" them is short term and will just set you back.

Yeah there is no free lunch when it comes to opiate addiction/tapering/detox/withdrawal etc.

If you made it five days, you were no doubt past the worst of the acute physical symptoms. By buying 50 pills, you will no doubt set yourself back and end up with back where you were, and have to suffer the same withdrawal. Tapering will no doubt make it more bearable, but that is assuming you have the self control to stick to your schedule, and don't take a little extra here or there. Using a short acting opiate such as oxycodone to taper is not th ebest idea, especially since it is your drug of choice.

The idea is to find the lowest dose which will keep you well, not high, but well. Then go as long as you can before re-dosing, gradually reducing your daily dose every few days-week. If it is too unbearable you can go back up, but getting high and going wild will just ruin it.

I highly suggest just getting rid of your pills and toughing out the rest of withdrawal. You made it so far, man! Don't ruin it now. Have you ever considered getting on suboxone/subutex? This way you can use a lnoger acting opioid to do a medically supervised taper. And you wouldn't really get fucked up like you would from oxy, if you happend to take alittle extra for some reason.

Tapering on your own and being successfull, while not impossible, is very difficult and require mucho will power and self control. I wish you the best of luck, but the odds are NOT on your side. sorry to be a downer, but it is true. I had tried many times, and thought I had beaten it. Then I decided to go buy some dope ONE LAST TIME, because I felt good again. Within two weeks I was IVing it every day yet again.

I wish you luck, and please utilize bluelight for help during your quest for sobriety. It will be along hard road, but if you have the desire you will find a way.

Don't hesitate to PM me if you have any questions/problems, or just want to talk to a fellow opiate addict struggling to get clean.

Thanks bud, take care.

Mike

Thank you all so much! I have begun calling some clinics near me to see what types of programs they have available. Im not sure I want to go the Suboxone route.

I don't have the will power to throw these remaining 50 pills away. I have the will power to taper and can stay on a plan - so if I drop to 2 30mg instant release this week and then down to 1 30mg/day the following week and then 15mg/day the following week and finally 7mg/day the last week. I also have 10 xanax which I do not take. I was planning on saving them when the wd begin.

Whats the word on Suboxone (spelling?)

If you're able to go cold turkey this time then you should be able to taper that way alright too. The doses are taken down a bit steeply so you might feel a bit off the first few days of the taper but it won't be as bad as coming off them entirely.

It sounds as if you're more psychologically addicted than you are physically, if I were to miss a dose for 5 days the sickness would be absolutely unbearable. I don't reckon you should go on subs if you can manage the tapering by yourself. I suggest you try talking to someone and getting them to help you get off the stuff.

You guys rock! Yes you are right it is the mental part I am having a problem with.

If I keep busy, it helps a lot.. I'd love to take on a job where I have to meet a quota and just sit at some assembly line or bag groceries, something to keep my mind off of it.

Thank you to all ... FYI after those 50 pills I stopped for 2 weeks straight and was. Out of the woods, but you guys were right, it is a strong addiction.
