Well, essentially, when a sailing boat capsizes, often the mast snaps in two. If the mast was composed of multiple segments that were pulled together into a rigid structure, and that mechanism released upon capsizing, then the mast would flex through the water during the capsize, and not break up. Many sailing boats are designed to right themselves after capsizing. Generally not racing sail-boats though.

Only times I have ever snapped a mast (two or three) was when the mast got stuck on the ground. A mast float is a good and easy way to defeat that.
 
1. Zipline over the canopy of a rainforest in South America.
2. Watch the sunrise over the Grand Canyon.
3. Design a tattoo for myself even if I never end up deciding to get a tattoo.
4. Learn how to toss pizza dough.
5. Attend Burning Man.
 
--- go to Australia or New Zealand for at least a couple months
--- learn to surf
--- have my own halfpipe/skatepark in my backyard or garage...someday:)
--- travel the world on a cruise ship
--- live with nature for a couple weeks
--- be a dad...hopefully my kids will be better behaved than I was

You've never been paintballing :O it's a lot of fun. I'd have to say one of mine would be skydive on acid... and if that doesn't literally scare me to death. Learn to scuba dive and scuba through the great barrier reef in australia
 
I've always had a fantasy to go up in a plain, kill the piolet, shoot some meth, then jump out eating a cheeseburger and getting blown. But that's way when I'm in my 90's - bottom of the bucket.
