I think alot of us can relate or have been in the white knuckle situation where we have the means to use like the money and time, and can get it, but deep down we know that its a bad idea and that the outcome might not be good. Sometimes in those situations its hard to think about anything else but that. The good and evil battling it out. I had a counselor in rehab tell me to do this and i thought it would be useful for someone thats going through this. I figured suggestions from other people here too would make it really helpful. If this has been done before, i apologize and it wouldnt be the first thread to go down the pooper on me. Ill start it out with a few and hopefully someone else can throw in their suggestions.

100. Go for a walk or run in your neighborhood or the gym

Hearing her voice, for me anyway, reminds me that I don't want to take all the chances that using makes me take (the chance of getting arrested, getting bad shit and getting sick, oding, ect)
58. it's been said already, but have sex with your partner. if you don't have one, instead of using, take one positive step towards meeting someone, be it signing up for a dating site or making a date to go out to a club (or gig or whatever) with a friend.
57. go take some pics. even if you just use your cell phone camera. go out for two hours around your neighborhood/city, and take pics of all kinds of stuff. go home, upload them, and play around with them in an image editor (there are good free ones). Upload your three favorites to facebook.
56. Imagine what you will do and how you will feel after the high fades. This actually used to help me when I had problems overeating. Instead of focusing on how good that ice cream would taste, I would think about the fact that in 20 minutes the ice cream will be gone, the pleasure from it will be gone, and I'll just feel full, uncomfortable and regretful. Think about how you'll feel when the high wears off - depressed, like you let yourself down, wasted money, ect.
55. make a list of five reasons personal to YOU why you don't want to use. Not why you "shouldn't use - that's too easy and doesn't help. Shouldn'ts are like "I could get arrested copping". Reasons why you don't WANT to are like "I want to finish school and I never go to class when I'm high".

Before even letting yourself think too much, grab everything you're going to organize and dump it in a pile on the floor. Grab something to drink, put on some music, sit down at your pile and start picking what you need and dont need, making things neat, and figuring out how to put it all back so its organized.

I used to do the treat myself move and that way i would spend some of the money too. As an addict/alchoholic i rarely thought highly of myself enough to treat myself with anything nice. I always felt like i didnt deserve it. I forgot about the video games, thats a great way to distract the mind. Great responses. Heres a few more:
