Hi everyone, I'm a newbie & tried to read as much as I could to help find my answer (and def did find some very good info, thanks for that) but would like some personal opinions if that is okay. I did read the rules and will try not to break any.

My friend is prescribed 30mg oxycontin 3xday & 10mg oxycodone 1x day - so 100mgs total. She often chews as she is in chronic pain and wants them to work asap. Sometimes if possible she takes up to 160mgs total daily (again often chewing and taken orally )

Now she's run out early and has found some 100mg of morphine ( 8 pills) and is wondering if this will a) hold off wd's b) relax with pain relief & some "high"?) c) not do anything for her.
Also wondering if she should just take 1 per day crushed? or just whole?

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated and again I really hope I've stuck to the rules :) this site is awesome!!

Hi :) no in this case it is a friend though I am prescribed oxycontin as well and am curious should i find myself in this situation. She's older than me and dislikes computers. Thanks for letting me know though. What does "SWIM" stand for? I've seen it before but can't figure out what it stands for?

I find morphine to take a while to kick in, but it also lasts for a long time when taken orally. I don't find it nearly as euphoric as oxycodone, which seems to be the general consensus on them, although there are some people that really like morphine.

Your friend should just take them for pain. I find them to be good killing pain, but bad for recreational purposes. They will probably need almost 2x the dose of morphine then they do to get pain relief from oxycodone, so 150-200mg morphine since they are taking 100mg oxycodone. These are both for the oral administration by the way.

Edit: I suggest that your friend doesn't try taking more and more morphine in an attempt to get the same high as oxycodone. I find the "high" I get from 200mg of morphine to be about the same as I get from 300mg of morphine, so they are better off not upping the dose since they really won't get higher, and they will just be increasing their tolerance.

thanks guys :) so either way...if she chews or just swallows whole it's about the same result? The conversion chart is great.

I was considering giving her a few to help out but if these will help with her pain and withdrawal until she can refill in 3 days that's better...especially since I don't have a lot to give but would like to help.

I chew them a bit, but I don't go crazy with crushing them. In the past I have crushed them into a fine powder before eating them, but I didn't find it to be much different than just chewing them. The other reason why I don't crush them much is because I want them to last longer since I too mostly use them to keep withdrawals away until I can get oxycodone or anything else really.

You [your friend or whoever] might as well just take them whole or just take them after breaking them a bit since it will be better for pain, and keep withdrawals away longer that way. Depending on the brand they probably gel up, so instead of chewing them maybe just break them into smaller pieces. The taste is pretty bad when chewing them, plus it sticks to your teeth that way.

Thanks guys :) so glad I found this site. I traded a couple oxy's with her for 1 of her 100's. I just took it whole. Don't feel anything yet but it hasn't been long.

^ I find morphine to be better than oxycodone at keeping the withdrawals away at least. For recreation I will take oxycodone hands down, but if I was looking to use it to get by a few days until a new script was filled, I would choose morphine over oxycodone. I think that since I don't find morphine that euphoric, it's easier for me to have control over the doses that I take of it. Like if I had 200mg of morphine and had to make it last 3 days to keep the sick away, I would have no problem doing that. Now if I were to have 200mg of oxycodone to last me 3 days, it would be a lot harder to not use it all up in 2 days since I would just want to get as high as I could on it. For this reason, if I was ever experiencing chronic pain, I would opt to be prescribed morphine since I could use it more responsibly since I don't find it euphoric, plus it works great for pain for me.
