1-ethynylcyclohexanol (cns depressant)

this molecule is an active metabolite of the old CNS depressant drug Ethinamate, and it appears to be unregulated. anyone have any experience with it?
 
Yes. I became interested in it after I read fastandbulbous report on it, so I aquired some. But it was a disappointment. Both me and a friend took probably more than 2g each, with only very mild effects.

Perhaps I should take some more just to see if maybe my bodychemistry was out of wack that day?

Well no, I don't drink that often. Perhaps 1-2 times a month.

I think I have to buy some more gelcaps before trying it again. The low melting point makes me think parachuting it would be a bit messy.
 
Well, I've tried it a few times more recently and my first impression was perhaps a bit hasty. The first time we took 500mg first and then waited an hour, and then took some more, waited, etc. If you instead take 1000-1500mg right away, then you actually feel it pretty good. I think it might have something to do with the short halflife? It also seems to have the same effect as benzodiazepines, in that you think you aren't feeling it "enough" so you take more and more...

So it's actually pretty enjoyable, even though I'm not really a big fan of depressants.
 
My only problem with it was the mentholated aftertaste it left in your mouth for a day after taking it. In terms of comparisons, I'd compare it more with the wide ranging non-barbituate depressants, such as meprobamate, ethychlorvinyl than the benzos as it totally fucks motor control with even smallish doses.

If you've ever heard the Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel song,'Mr Soft', it'll give you a good idea of how 1-ethynylcyclohexanol feels! =D
 
By far the most euphoric downer I've tried was methaqualone, with clomethiazole a close second. These simple ethynyl downers seem messy. Having said that, I never tried etchlorvynol (it's appaently minty tasting) which is supposed to be very pleasurable.
 
^ What the minty taste? It was bloody annoying with 1-ethynylcyclohexanol & I'd have been much happier without it.

Must agree that methaqualone is probably the best CNS depressant I've tried, but considering how hideous the withdrawl symptoms are for methaqualone, I think it's probably best that it isn't readily available (chlormethiazole made me want to shove loads of tissue paper up my nose to get to the site of the incredibly annoying itchy feeling)
 
^You know, I never got ANY side-efects of clomethiazole, I was lucky. I had a mad junkie friend who used to shoot up the liquid in the caps. You had to be quick because either the clomethiazole or the 'oily suspension' melted the plastic of the barrel. You could tell he had been using it because there would be loads of manky orange-tops all over the floor of his flat...
 
Getting this one soon. So what is ideal dose to get the most of it? 2g? How long the effects last. And what substance is closest to this by effects? Thanks.
 
I heard that etaqualone was available as an RC for a short time. I know it's an analogue that turns up in S.African from time to time so it must have some activity but I imagine that larger alkyl groups decreases activity reasonably sharply.

What is it about methaqualone that makes it so nice, I wonder. I seem to remember being given Mandrax (mandies make you randy) in hospital when I was a child (night before op, couldn't sleep). I just remember waking up! It was a long time ago...
 
Oddly enough, and many might disagree, but in terms of availability to effect ratio, carisoprodol is pretty damned good. I'd say it's more euphoric than most benzos. Currently using it for tramadol withdrawals. Not a bad choice. (Sorry, off-topic!)
 
Well, they are both carbamate derivatives of quaternary alcohols so I guess they work in a similar manner. What is it about that class that makes it pleasant? I know a lot of people swear by methaqualone but I don't think I have had a really good comparison written by somebody familiar with a lot of different sedative/hypnotics.

It's a pity clomethiazole has such nasty side-effects in many people because it's very effective, especially in it's ability to suppress not only the physical side of alcohol withdrawal but also the emotional & cravings.

I know that the oxazole analogue is equipotent & doesn't have the awful taste/smell of the original. Maybe the histamine effect is less pronounced?

I don't think that there is a single pleasant sedative/hypnotic that doesn't have a serious tolerance/dependence liability (and this coming from a smoker).

I think a lot of medium chain-length alcohols (especially with triple-bonds) have similar activity. I don't think this material is a whole lot different to 2-methyl 2-butanol apart from the actual dose. I suspect the activity will be across a number of different receptors (like ethanol).

If anyone has the LD50 of this stuff, I would like to know. The activity could at least be partially reversed with Ro15-4513.

Indeed but what others have said, this one by effects remind more of barbis, benzos and etaqualones than ethanol.
 
^So that would be GABA mediated activity? I wonder what the effect of Flumazil would be on this material.
 
is this compound a racemate?

I know that some of the other ethanol analogues (eg, ethchlorvynol) should be chiral and in theory have differing effects depending on isomer.
