1 Dead, 7 Injured in Mass Drug Overdose (2C-E)

I'm NOT downplaying personal responsibility and harm reduction. When it comes down to it, drug users are the only ones who can prevent shit like this from happening. Vendors, street dealers and manufacturers can't be counted on to do it, that's for sure.

All I'm saying is that, in the Oklahoma case, the kid "dealing" it was as much a victim as the friends he sold it to. He too received a tainted product, was deceived, lost money and suffered ill effects from the substance. As for personal responsibility, ALL the victims--including Weddle--should've done their research beforehand and started with a tester dose to prevent OD.

If someone died from using a defective/tainted prescription drug, would you blame the doctor who prescribed it? The drug's manufacturer? Big pharma? The FDA? The U.S. government? I say some of the blame goes to all of the above, with the drug's manufacturer being directly responsible. Same with this story. Blaming someone who already overdosed, lost his friends and is facing prison time and a shit ton of bad press seems a little short-sighted IMO.

In fact, I can think of a lot of other places to lay blame:

*The individuals--for not starting with a low dose/using a testing kit.

*The vendor (online)--for not testing their own product before selling it to hundreds, if not thousands, of people.

*The manufacturer--for mislabeling the drug.

*The education system--for teaching abstinence-only information and neglecting harm reduction altogether.

*The DEA/government--for declaring a War on Some Drugs that makes safer hallucinogens like psilocybin and mescaline illegal, causing people to seek out lesser known alternatives.

I can't help but have sympathy for this 20-year-old kid from middle America, who did not intend to kill his friends and probably just wanted to have some fun, make a little money and look "cool" by introducing a new drug into the scene. That's just my position. It doesn't take away from the fact that his actions were extremely irresponsible. But aren't the vendor's actions even MORE irresponsible, seeing as how they sold to many more people than Weddle? I definitely think he should do time, I just think the vendor should do a lot more time.

~Off soapbox.~

My condolences go out to ALL the victims and their loved ones. Hopefully the deaths will not be in vain and can be used to help spread the word about safer drug use (as opposed to demonizing a chemical substance or the person who sold it).

From what I've learned 2-CE is harmless when taken right. Don't be stupid with it. It wasn't the kid's fault for taking the wrong substance because IT WAS MISLABELED... but even if it was 2-CE they would have all done way to much of it and not only that but they were snorting it and putting it in their drinks and all sorts of dumb sheit. Also I think it's dumb that Bromo Dragonfly even exists and is being sold because according to studies and trip reports it kinda seems like a trip into hell and back as well as being ridiculously potent. And to top my sundae off with some hot fudge... the media is spouting that its 2-CE's fault these kids died and even AFTER they confirmed it was not 2-CE, you don't hear the media trying to correct themselves or anything. So when they go to ban 2-CE its going to have a reputation for killing people which it doesn't. It's not fair. D:

I agree that the kid selling it at the party was being extremely careless and should face legal consequences. That said, as someone born and raised in small-town Oklahoma, I can tell you that most Okies don't know the difference between marijuana and meth until they end up hopelessly hooked on the latter...which actually happened to about half of my graduating class.

Everyone SHOULD test their drugs before dosing, but the reality is that far too many people have never even HEARD of test kits and wouldn't know how to use one if they had it. Harm reduction is not taught in schools; in places like Oklahoma, the general consensus is that all drug users deserve to die for sinning against God. To give an idea of the ignorance level in the state: Not long ago, the local news dedicated a special segment to the dangers of "iDosing"--aka listening to soundwaves to alter consciousness. (See here).

My $0.02: A more practical form of drug education is needed in schools to help prevent things like this. We learn to put condoms on bananas in 7th grade to prevent STDs and pregnancy but get virtually no useful harm reduction info when it comes to drug education. Abstinence-only education doesn't work, period. Pretending that it does is like telling drug users they deserve to die. Hence my relentless obsession with harm reduction.

Yes in Oklahoma you can drink as much three point beer and smoke as many cigarettes as you want, (but you shouldn't do so much of the latter because you're killing 20,000,000 loved ones every year or something like that). Want liquor after nine? Too bad!!! You want something other than piss-water light beer in gas stations? Too bad!!!

DMT has popped up around here (the greater Tulsa area anyway) in recent years, I wonder what's gonna happen when the local media gets a hold of that. I mean, it's already illegal so they can't exactly do the whole "designer drug" thing.

That's when they call it a "club drug" or "party drug" or "date rape drug"...

But my personal favorite is

"Dangerous Illegal Drug" 8)

Or when they say things like

"Its like a cross between lsd and methamphetamine".... or some other random uneducated guess...

I agree, this is completely ridiculous.
We can guess that the people involved just had no idea of the proper dosage, so there was no "murder" involved.
Especially not first degree murder.

Another thing I thought about was the relatively high LD50 of 2c-e.
I have read reports on Erowid and BL about people taking 150mg or more, and not having any seriously bad physical effects.
These people must have been snorting lines.

Chalk it up to the insanity of the drug war.
Education is limited, so people take too much and die, and they charge the guy who gave them the fun and educational chemical with murder.
Sucks.

i agree for the most part but i feel the dealer should atleast give some kinda warning of how much to take and how strong it is and what not i dunno 1st degree murder is way to much tho

The stuff ist that cheap... like... unless you put out a lot of money... your not getting a whole lot.... especially divided by 8 or whatever people....

I'm guessing its not actually 2C-E... I've taken a shit ton of that on accident once... shit got mixed up :(.... about 250mg.... and other than trippin balls for the rest of the night and half the next day... I was fine and normal by 2 days later....

Yea, it wasn't 2c-e, that's for sure. Authorities have released that while further testing is needed, that they believe the substance to be bromo-dragonfly. So they all undertook massive overdoses.

I've had alot of expeience with 2c-i and while really high doses aren't comfortable, they are forgiving. I had 60mg one night, like 3x the erowid recommended 'high' dose. Just tripped for a really long time.

Agreed, I've consumed close to 75mg of 2c-I, and besides tripping for like 24 hrs I was fine.

We could only guess what the substance is. It's been so long too... I wonder what could take them so long to test it when even more bodies are showing up from it. The way these chemicals are distributed it scares me though. Extreme powerful psychostimulant, Dopamine reuptake inhibitor, serotonin blaster all on the same menu. And all active in the dosage range of 1/10 of a line of meth or whatever drug is popular with them for partying. If low level "offline vendors" are cutting 2C-x with MDPV (I could see that giving someone a heart attack or other panic-associated reaction very quickly), they might as well add some fucking Phenazepam in there to stop the seizures/deaths (that was a joke). I can visualize some pseudo-intellectual jackass wannabe "chemist" ordering grams of mdpv/2c and mixing them up to "make a new drug" or some stupid bullshit. So many dumbass kids out there and many want to go god-mode with these chems.

^They've already stated that the kids were mailed bromo-dragonfly mislabeled as 2c-e, oops. Always test the waters before you jump my friends...
