KONAWATA, Oklahoma -- At least one person is dead and others injured after more than a half-dozen people overdosed on an ecstasy like drug in Konawata.

The Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation said a 911 call early Saturday morning led authorities to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found eight young adults--ranging in age from 19 to their early 20s--suffering from severe drug toxicity from the drug 2C-E.The drug is described as a powerful hallucinogenic similar to the drug ecstasy.

One victim was transported to a Seminole hospital where she was pronounced dead. Two others remain in very critical condition, according to the OSBI. Conditions of the five other victims are not known.

The man who authorities suspect supplied the drug, 20-year-old Cody Weddle, was arrested while visiting one of the victims at the hospital. Weddle is facing first degree murder charges.

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office requested OSBI assistance. Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office and the Ada Police Department have also aided in this case.

This happened near me unfortunately, a lot of kids in my area are just discovering RC's. Yeah!! Let's snort it like cocaine! RIP though.
Goodbye 2c-e! 'twas nice knowing ya!

First degree murder charges? Come the fuck on.

I agree, this is completely ridiculous.
We can guess that the people involved just had no idea of the proper dosage, so there was no "murder" involved.
Especially not first degree murder.

Another thing I thought about was the relatively high LD50 of 2c-e.
I have read reports on Erowid and BL about people taking 150mg or more, and not having any seriously bad physical effects.
These people must have been snorting lines.

Chalk it up to the insanity of the drug war.
Education is limited, so people take too much and die, and they charge the guy who gave them the fun and educational chemical with murder.
Sucks.

In most states, first-degree murder is defined as an unlawful killing that is both willful and premeditated, meaning that it was committed after planning or "lying in wait" for the victim.

For example, Dan comes home to find his wife in bed with Victor. Three days later, Dan waits behind a tree near Victor's front door. When Victor comes out of the house, Dan shoots and kills him.

Most states also adhere to a legal concept known as the "felony murder rule," under which a person commits first-degree murder if any death (even an accidental one) results from the commission of certain violent felonies -- usually arson, burglary, kidnapping, rape, and robbery.

For example, Dan and Connie rob Victor's liquor store, but as they are fleeing, Victor shoots and kills Dan. Under the felony murder rule, Connie can be charged with first-degree murder for Dan's death

So apparently the DA figures that this 'dealer' was laying in wait with a toxic substance with the intention of murdering the people (who he visited in the hospital by the way) that he sold the drug to....

This is just abuse of the Law, it's a shield, not a sword.

jesus they REALLY need to check these two batches for a common source or impurity or something, how the hell is this happening all of a sudden? Is it really the only drug involved? no stimulants? This is just crazy.

Sucks.

It will get worked down to a manslaughter charge during pretrial most likely

If there is one thing I have learned from Drugs in the Media, it is that EVERY drug is either Ecstasy or "like Ecstasy"

Absolutely.
The media have a job to fear-monger, and they can not do so by saying "this drug provides a new experience which often leads people to turn their lives around, quit their addictions, and become more positive and true to themselves".
They have to link the drug in people's minds to something that they are already scared of.
(Saves money on propaganda, doubling up like this.):|

Any more info as how to how much they took, how they took it, other drugs in their system etc? Probably snorting massive lines like someone said - why do so many people i've met just seem not to understand the concept of different drugs having wildly different dosages & safety margins...and also snort everything? it's mystifying.

Chalk it up to human stupidity imo - sure the drugs war isn't helping, and education is not just limited but actively frowned upon in some circles, but it's not ultimately at fault here. It's not exactly hard to obtain genuine info about drugs if you have the slightest bit of initiative, as someone who's managed to acquire 2c-e clearly does, but more importantly he has the responsibility. It's not like events like this are gonna stop happening when drugs are legal

Guess they thought it was just some powder that "makes you see crazy shit, here man do a fat line"8) Sad that one of them actually had to die for such a silly, preventable reason :(

Just as an aside, I really don't understand why people who decide to be reckless with drugs (which is not necessarily a bad thing in itself imo) would choose a psychedelic, let alone one of the most potent, dose-sensitive & 'difficult' :? Of all drugs i've taken psychedelics are imo the least suited to reckless behaviour - I've gone way overboard at various times with alcohol, benzos, dissociatives, stimulants and cannabis but haven't ever feel the slightest temptation to 'abuse' a psychedelic. hell out of the dozens of times I've tripped I've only ever redosed two or three times (and only ever because the first dose was unexpectedly weak). Not that I'm saying there's anything wrong with bingeing on psychs, I just don't see the appeal....anyone explain?

ps the whole first-degree murder thing won't stand a chance in court, surely? still, the very fact that it's being considered on any level shows how deeply fucked the official values of our society are...this kind of vindictive sadomoralism will be the downfall of western society one day i swear :|

I tried an RC once in my life & got really sick & vomited, it was supposed to be like ecstasy. I will never try RC's ever again in my life, just plain retarded chemicals & they seem to be more dangerous than the illegal drugs like cocaine & heroin.

I dont wanna hear about taking a smaller dose because I did & it was the worst experience of my life. Ban all of them!

Wow. So let me get this straight - your line of reasoning seems to be:

A. I tried one so-called "RC" and didn't have a good time
B. This means that this "RC" is dangerous
C. This means that all "RCs" are dangerous
D. Because you had a bad experience with this one "RC", no-one should take any "RCs"
E. Making them illegal would achieve this.

Can't you see that every step of (what I assume is) your reasoning is a complete non-sequitur? You equate a bad physical experience with the potential for long-term physical damage...throwing up says next to nothing about how toxic/dangerous a chemical is. You fail to recognize that RC is an arbitrary grouping based primarily on availability issues that says nothing whatsoever about its safety, or that of any other "research chemicals". Worst of all though, you think it's your place to tell other people what they should and shouldn't be doing - in fact it's worse than just that - you think that, not only is it your place to tell others how to live, but these proclamations you make should be enforced by law & those who do not subscribe to your view should have their freedoms taken away.

That's not to mention the complete lunacy of thinking that criminalising a ubiquitous human behaviour will do anything to stop people from engaging in it...

Then again I feel I'm wasting my time by telling you this :|

I dont wanna hear

No, you really don't do you 8)

EDIT: I forgot to ask, what exactly was this "RC" that convinced you of all this? I'm genuinely curious.
EDIT 2: now seen your postcount so looks like the jokes on me...oh well, i blame running out of mdpv...

Cmon bro you're smarter than this. You can't throw the insanely varitied RCs all into one 'ban bucket' just because one didn't agree with you. That would be like saying "I got the shits from chili once so let's ban food"
