Can anyone shed some light on this compound and it's N-methyl counterpart?
The ketone these are made from happens to be the one methylone is made from so I'm hoping someone must have tasted this? I know that particular ketone is a bitch to make but surely someone has sacrificed a little on this.

methylendioxypropiophenone.

from memory this compound aka 1-amino-1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl) propane is mentioned in pihkal under MDA. I think it is called M-alpha.
and is reportedly a stimulant at 50mg, it is illegal in some countries because it was mentioned in the pihkal index.

For those who like a visual.

Anyone had any experiences to share with consumption of this one? I have to admit I'm rather curious of its effects (assuming it's suitable for human consumption and non toxic, although I had assumed that by the info provided by the opening poster).

Also nice pics MG.

The title compound is ALPHA, the N-methyl compound is M-ALPHA.

Here's the paragraph from Pihkal #100 MDA mentioning both:

The benzylamine counterpart (as if one were to move the amine function from the beta-carbon to the alpha-carbon of the three carbon chain of the amphetamine molecule) is alpha-ethyl-3,4-methylenedioxybenzylamine or 1-amino-1-(3,4-methylenedioxyphenyl)propane, ALPHA. The hydrochloride salt has a mp of 199-201 °C. At low threshold levels (10 milligram area) there were eyes-closed "dreams" with some body tingling. The compound was not anorexic at any dose (up to 140 milligrams) and was reported to produce a pleasant, positive feeling. It is very short-lived (about 3 hours). The N-methyl homologue is alpha-ethyl-N-methyl-3,4-methylenedioxybenzylamine or 1-methylamino-1-(3,4-methylenedioxy-phenyl)propane, M-ALPHA. It is similar in action, but is perhaps twice as potent (a plus one or plus two dose is 60 milligrams) and of twice the duration.

To my knowledge there is no other description of the effects of these compounds. There is an article in Forensic science international 1996, vol. 77, no3, pp. 141-149 referring to a few seizures of ALPHA in the 90's.
I'm hoping someone who has tasted either may run across this thread. As far as their safety or otherwise goes, I was hoping for some info on that too.

International waters. :)
It isn't because it's a 1-PEA a.k.a. a β-methyl phenethylamine.

either alpha or its n-methyl homologue or perhaps both are illegal in the UK fwiw.

I disagree..unless you can explain what I've missed.
I have seen methylone described as illegal too, on erowid no less.

I am pretty sure whilst it is not covered by the 1977 catch all, but it is explicitly named

What if you took off the dioxy ether part and just had a nitro group somewhere on the arene? Is there some kind of nitrolases in humans that quickly cut off the nitro group from arenes?; are there other reasons preventing this nitro group getting into the CNS?
