sex-reassigned transsexual persons of both genders had approximately a three times higher risk of all-cause mortality than controls

The overall mortality for sex-reassigned persons was higher during follow-up (aHR 2.8; 95% CI 1.8–4.3) than for controls of the same birth sex, particularly death from suicide (aHR 19.1; 95% CI 5.8–62.9). Sex-reassigned persons also had an increased risk for suicide attempts (aHR 4.9; 95% CI 2.9–8.5) and psychiatric inpatient care (aHR 2.8; 95% CI 2.0–3.9). Comparisons with controls matched on reassigned sex yielded similar results. Female-to-males, but not male-to-females, had a higher risk for criminal convictions than their respective birth sex controls

Persons with transsexualism, after sex reassignment, have considerably higher risks for mortality, suicidal behaviour, and psychiatric morbidity than the general population. Our findings suggest that sex reassignment, although alleviating gender dysphoria, may not suffice as treatment for transsexualism, and should inspire improved psychiatric and somatic care after sex reassignment for this patient group

You don't get to change your age, race, gender or species and if you want to, TOO BAD.
so... you're implying that (if given the chance) you'd make it illegal for adults to transition?

not surprising, considering in another thread you implied you'd support christian nationalism over our constitution...

all i can say is... thank his noodly appendages you aren't in charge.

Lol I just saw that article earlier. A few years ago I read an article about a woman that amputated her leg to be disabled. We've obviously never had so much mental illness in this country before, it's crazy

Yeah there was a nutty lady who supposedly with help or advocation from her therapist/psychiatrist blinded herself.

I wonder how long it will take that this will be looked upon as what tobacco industry did in the past. Smoke cigs cuz it’s cool, smoke cigs cuz they keep you thin, smoke cigs to feel like an independent woman...

I can’t really see that at one point society wont get developed enough to people not look back at barbaric times when doctors were allowed to cut of dicks to pubescent boys for big pharma to profit.

Why don't your average masculine gay men get more representation when it comes to LGBTQ matters?

Every time gay people are represented somewhere, they're shown as flamboyant girly men or trans or whatever. Constant stereotypes or very "out spoken" types.

It's almost like everyone ignores that regular gay men exist anymore.

I've met hundreds & hundreds of gay men in my life time & at least 80% were just your every day manly looking guys. Yet you don't see this side of gay men get represented in media, like at all.

Not only that but they are almost looked upon as bad in many LGBT organizations. During one LGBT conference such man (or woman but normal, cool gay woman) asked why they are pushing some stupid agenda (forgot what, but I think it had to do with firing up animosity and trying to change law because of some stupid football fans slogan) and he or she got reply – we all know what’s this is about, it’s to put show. Year after year less people were less and less bothered and basically ignored pride day as gay thing that no one normal considered bad and than some radical LGBT bs gets into mainstream and again you have idiots showing up wanting to beat the crap out of them (but that doesn’t happen for ages any-more). But now things are be bad again I suspect really bad on next pride, bad like two decades or more ago as trans woman is busted for child trafficking. And mind you, that same trans woman didn’t have right to adopt child in my country (and gays can if they are fitted to parents) because of things not having to do with being trans so just went to africa and bought a child. I aspect rage on pride parades this year unseen for decades.

I totally hear ya.
It's like being a regular gay dude isn't "good" enough these days. lol

Me being gay also exists on the notion that there are genders, me being a male who is attracted to males.
So all this gender stuff confuses me & it seems to be erasing my identity as a man who enjoys other men (aka a homosexual).

I've met some trans folks who are not like they are in the media & such.
It seems like everyone was fine with gay people (here in the us) in the mid & later 2000's. We even got equal marriage.
But it's almost like an agenda is being pushed to make people tired of the whole "LGBTQ" thing, maybe even start to hate people who fall under this acronymn.
The LG & B parts are actual sexuality's (that depend on the existence of gender & gender roles, i.e. - i'm attracted to men cause they look like men, not women lol)
where as the T & Q parts are expressions/personality traits/etc...

But while I may not understand or agree with a lot of this trans stuff, I still have to stand by their side, just like people had to do to fight for gay rights.

can you help me understand what this means in practice? perhaps with an example or three?

thanks.

Some trans/queer people say there is no such thing as genders.
And then some say there are 2++ genders. So that's really confusing.

I think there's male, female, intersex/hermaphrodites & trans people.

If there were no such thing as gender though, then "gay" couldn't exist either, because being gay relies on some one being attracted to the same sex/gender.

I also worry about the push to get kids to transition. I went through a flamboyant stage as a kid (my favorite band was TLC in the early 90's, I loved dressing like T-Boz & Left-eye lol), but it was just a phase & I grew out of it. Once I hit puberty, I got hairy & started becoming more masculine. And I'm completely happy with being a male/man today. But I wonder how many kids out there are gonna be like me, just gay & going through phases & then they transition & it ruins their life.

So there's a lot I don't understand. I'll support trans & queer people no matter what though. Cause in the end, it's a human rights issue.

Hell, I could say I have some feminine qualities still (I'm pretty sensitive, in touch with my emotions, maybe a bit neurotic) but those are just human qualities to me. Doesn't make me a girl or make me any less of a man because I have more feelings than the average cold hearted douche. lol

thanks, but how is your identity being erased (given that you're "completely happy with being a male/man today")?

i.e. what aspect of your identity is weaker/less/etc. than it was before and why?

it's a curious comment and i'd love to understand it.

People thinking they are less than perfect EXACTLY THE WAY THEY ARE is why we are here.

You don't get to change your age, race, gender or species and if you want to, TOO BAD. You learn to LOVE yourself and live with what you got. Cuz guess what, you're gonna look in the mirror and not like what you see at times your entire life.

If Liberal logic is sound, I'm a black man named Bubba who is 6'5" and if you don't address me as such, you're a transphobic hatred filled Nazi.

Get the fuck outta here and live a real life.
what you say definitely has more to it, but is quite much like saying "If you want to influence your state of consciousness, TOO BAD."
of course there are also the arbitrary "rules"

I don't think your average gay dude gets enough representation when it comes to LGBTQ matters.
We're basically the "straight white males" of the LGBTQ crowd.

Most of the gay guys I've met in my life were similar to me & just regular dudes. But you still see the flamboyant or trans type gay guys represented more than the others. And often they become the "spokesperson" for the entire LGBTQ crowd. I think if we had guys like me out there speaking, it would show "the other side" that gay people are also just every day people. We aren't all trans or flamboyant or anything. It was somewhat like this too before the whole trans thing came to the forefront.

So with that & the whole gender issue (i'm not even sure what the mainstream consensus is anymore. Is there no such thing as gender? Or is there?) Would it make me transphobic if i didn't wanna be with a trans male who use to be a woman? Or is it still okay these days that I prefer biological males? Cause I've been called transphobic for thinking that way, but if that's true, in that sense it's "erasing" my gayness because I'm expected to be attracted to both genders now. Which I obviously have no control over that. lol I'm attracted to men who look like men, not men who look like women or women who look like men. I don't see anything wrong with that either because that's what being gay is.

I do think there is a spectrum when it comes to sexuality & gender fluidity. Like I said earlier, we assign a lot of regular human traits to genders. Like being emotional makes you "feminine" or "weaker", when in reality it's okay for a man to be emotional & still be a man.

There's just so much to unpack & process that I think society will be still talking about these issues years from now.
