“Pot for Sale” Facebook Post Leads to Arrests in Thailand

Anyone visiting Thailand from Russia – or any other country for that matter – should take note that pot is illegal there. Like really illegal.

Earlier this week, police officers on the Thai vacation island of Koh Pha Ngan raided two rented party houses and arrested eight Russian citizens – five women and three men. During the raid police seized a hand-carved bamboo water pipe and 304 grams (10.72 ounces) of “compressed cannabis.”

The raids were part of an investigation into a now-deleted Facebook page titled “Bong Russian Boss,” on which the accused allegedly advertised pot and bongs for sale.

Two of the arrested men, each 29-years-old, claimed ownership of the seized items and were formally charged with possession. They claim they didn’t know that cannabis was illegal in Thailand. Unfortunately that excuse will be of little help in a country known for its draconian drug laws.

In the nearby second house police found some compressed marijuana hidden in a rice cooker. The drugs seized from the two houses weighed a total of 304 grammes.

The Russians allegedly told police they were friends and used the houses as places to meet and party. They said the carved pipe was made for their own use and allegedly admitted having sold marijuana to...

I can't decide who is dumber; the people who thought it'd be a smart idea to sell weed on facebook in Thailand of all countries or the cops that think busting them for such a tiny amount of dirt weed makes some sort of positive difference Then again maybe they know what they are doing has no effect and are only smiling about the bonus coming their way.

Nearly 11 ounces isnt really a tiny amount.

I wonder how strict the sentence will be.

I have friends that went to Thailand and other SE Asian countries to travel for vacation and smoked herb, hash and possibly even opium, ate mushrooms, and took pills; but the one guy only just drank when he was there as it's that risky, and he didn't want to get into any hypothetical legal trouble while as a tourist/visitor to Thailand and those countries.
