Statement from the Board of Directors of Bluelight Communities Ltd

The board of directors of the charity Bluelight Communities Ltd have made a unanimous resolution to require Bluelight.org to more rigorously enforce our user agreement. We will not be changing the rules, but will require that the Bluelight User Agreement (BLUA) be fully enforced in all parts of our site.

As directors, we have legal obligations to the Australian charities regulator to ensure that our charity is operating within the law and within the standards of conduct set by the regulator (the ACNC). Unlike profit-based digital platforms, Bluelight Communities Ltd is a charity that is required by law to serve our communities and ensure all our activities are aligned with our mission.

It has been brought to our attention that a significant amount of content hosted by Bluelight violates rule #4 of the BLUA (You may not post or upload any content that victimizes, harasses, degrades, or intimidates an individual or group of individuals on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion...

Hello everyone

We have a few announcements to make!

Finally, Bluelight has a merchandise shop which you can find here: *** New Shop Coming***

***Admin Note: the shop says they are really back ordered on apparel and a couple of people have not received goods they bought early February. Stickers have been arriving though. Until we sort out the apparel, I recommend waiting as we are concerned given they've been so 'back ordered'.***

***We're setting up a new shop with a different distributor/platform, so if you had issues with an order, contact @Tronica @deficiT @Skorpio or @alasdairm and we'll make it right. ***

A small amount of the price, around 10-20% depending on the item, goes to Bluelight to help keep things running. Noting that we are all volunteers but we have server and software fees to keep this place looking neat.

More importantly, if you are wearing our gear (or putting our logo on your laptop or phone), then more people will get to know about us!

This shop is just...

Hello to the Bluelight community

One of our long-term members and administrators @Xorkoth lives in Asheville, NC, USA. As you've probably heard, this area of the world was recently devastated by a hurricane leading to flooding of the entire town and surrounds. The following information is from a message from BLer @Xorkoth. If you'd like to donate to the charity he is working with, all donations will help with the rebuilding of his community.

Donate to Beloved Asheville

Just an update: I’ve totally got my bearings and now that my neighborhood is doing well, I’ve turned to putting all my focus into helping with the massive amount of aid that is needed. The damage and widespread nature of this thing is so unprecedented that the authorities and government agencies can barely put a dent in the work that needs to be done, so most of the AV done is grassroots stuff.

I’ve gotten involved with an organization, and we are doing various things, yesterday. I brought water to people in...

International Overdose Awareness Day - 31 August 2024

Admin note: this international campaign to end overdose is happening in the last week of August. Here are some ways to get involved: https://www.overdoseday.com/get-involved/

International Overdose Awareness Day 2024 theme: "Together we can"
No one should stand alone in our fight to end overdose.

While every individual action matters greatly, coming together as an international community creates a powerful collective action. One that moves us with greater speed toward our shared goal of preventing, and ultimately, ending all overdoses.

Through our 2024 theme, “Together we can” we’re highlighting the strength of coming together and standing in support of those connected to the tragedy of overdose.

For people who use drugs and those who don’t. For heartbroken friends and family members of lost loved ones. For activists who fight for sorely needed policy reform. For healthcare and harm reduction workers. For tireless advocates. Overdose can affect anyone, and we encourage you to...

Support. Don't Punish - June 26, 2024

The "Support. Don't Punish" campaign is a global grassroots-centred initiative in support of harm reduction and drug policies that prioritise public health and human rights. The campaign seeks to put harm reduction on the political agenda by strengthening the mobilisation capacity of communities targeted by the “war on drugs” and their allies, opening dialogue with policy makers, and raising awareness among the media and the public.

There are many ways the Bluelight community can support this campaign. Their website will soon have a list of IRL events you can attend (search for your location). You can also submit your own selfie holding the 'Support. Don't Punish' sign to amplify the movement and show your support.

The campaign’s yearly high point is the Global Day of Action, which takes place on, or around, 26th June (the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking). Historically, this date has been used by governments to showcase their drug control...

New website and branding for Bluelight has landed!

Hello to the Bluelight community

Today we are announcing the launch of our new website and our new branding.

The purpose of the rebrand is to update and consolidate who we are, our values and mission, and how we look to the world. We aim to attract new people to our site and into our communities, and retain them as members and contributors. We also aim to improve our ratings with Google through emphasizing our expertise and authority in the harm reduction space. We also wanted to look less like we still lived in 2011 :)

A significant change is that bluelight.org now points to a new frontpage designed in Wordpress (you may have to clear your cache or use an incognito window to see it). The forums will continue to be available via their existing URLs that will resolve to bluelight.org/community. These can be accessed via numerous menus and buttons on bluelight.org, as well.

We have re-written our mission, which you can see at the top and bottom of our website at bluelight.org...

"She was my heart" - a story about a tragic overdose

Hello to everyone in the Bluelight Community.

Last month, we tragically lost ketamania (you can visit her shrine remembrance post here).

This week, her fiancé posted an account of what happened which he wants everyone to read, especially those who use drugs and their loved ones.

I wanted to elevate this writing to our front page because it goes to the worst harm any of us can experience from drug use, as well as the harm reduction tools we can have at hand to help prevent fatal overdoses (naloxone, knowing the recovery position, being willing to seek help quickly), as well as supporting our friends who are seeking to maintain abstinence.

The toxic drug supply, especially in the North Americas, is also a huge factor in these deaths.

RIP Ashley. And thank you so much to Jose for sharing this ♥️

ANNUAL REMINDER - Stay Within The Law & The BLUA When Using Bluelight

  • 2,571
  • 0
For all members, lurkers, and others, we wish to take a moment to give a general reminder that the Bluelight User Agreement (BLUA), which everyone read and agreed to upon joining the site, remains in place and is being extended as policy across all our social media platforms. As we expand to Discord, Quora, Facebook, Twitter/X, Reddit, and other online spaces to reach more people, we are setting these areas up with a unified focus and goal for Harm Reduction. As such, the same principles and guidelines, which helped Bluelight survive and thrive over two decades, will remain in place in those expanded ecosystems. Specifically, our focus is on educating people without judging them.

We strive to create welcoming, safe spaces to share your thoughts and concerns. As well as having peers offer their insights, experience, and opinions. Everyone should keep in mind we are not professionals, but we are like you having faced similar situations and decisions, and our experiences are meant to...

Requests Bluelight drug icons project - community input wanted!

Hello everyone!

EDIT 21 June 2023: We have prototypes of the 20 icons. We would love your input. At this stage please comment on how they can be improved, especially whether or not they don't match up with what's actually happening. Input by June 30 would be great! Here's the link you can comment on.

EDIT 4th May 2023: So, we are at the point of having the final 20 ideas with some left over for round 2 later (so if you come up with more ideas, please add to the comments and we will incorporate into next round). First off, I will be advising designers of the actual types of images we want to have depicted in the first instance. Once that process is complete, I'll offer prototypes to you all to check out and critique, so we can make them look as excellent as we can, as well as have them accurately depicting each thing based from your first-hand experiences. So, stay tuned everyone and thanks again. :)
