Mushroom Season 2011 UK / Ireland / Anywhere else

ye every time iv been up there he does only be only getting off with his mower he even stood looking while we picked.
he didnt mind . we do get em in the rough

The rough is probably best, ya might find a Pro. V golf ball or 2 and they're worth a few bob a piece if in good condition. Could sell them for money for pills then! Ha Ha, I'm goin poochin for mushrooms on the local golf course :)

EDIT>>>>I'm sure I used acetic acid for a psilocin/psilocybin extraction once, didn't really get the end product i was hoping for, so never tried it with any big amounts of shrooms, might look into it again...lol, even though I haven't been picking yet this year....

Did you get enough to dose with? This sounds interesting! I take it you'd need a good few ozs to make it worth your while though?

I did, but it wasn't a lovely powder like I was hoping for...more a sort of sludge.....it was about 15 years ago now, I doubt I followed instrucctions to a t, and it was before i had interweb, and I was pretty much constantly befuddled at the time....

I do remember giving it up and just going with the raki concoctions instead, it might be worth a go...

There's probably a "tek" for it somewhere now.....

lol, i was on the right lines

http://www.erowid.org/archive/rhodium/chemistry/psilocin.extraction.html

acetic acid, I'm sure mine was more of a heat, soak, filter, evaporate attempt.....certainly didn't approach it with any degree of scientific rigour :D

as I say, before the interweb there were just lots of handed down stories which sort of became chinese whispers....

I remember spending a whole weekend following a book (our Bible at the Time) Cannabis Alchemy by Gold, to make, through a lot of complicated processes, cannabis oil....it was alright, but nothing special, and the effort involved was extreme, but we were happy (actually we were over the moon) to produce an oil....then the interweb came along, and Babing! butane extraction, half hour job, no complicated processes, much better product...

^I just use the tops for eating too, easy to swallow a handful of dry caps with a drink, and I reckon get less gut problems, I reckon a lot of the gut problems arise from the dirt, dung, shite on the stems....

Use the stalks for making a spirit with, cos it's filtered, and I think soaking in strong spirit for a few days will kill bacteria...

Could all be placebo though <3

Start of this season i've found hundreds of libs and after about 1week of picking everything drys up.. it hasn't even frosted yet but it has rained alot anyone think alot of rain would hinder mushie growth for a bit and make a huge flush.. i know that with other mushrooms you can kick start growth by a quick burst of coldness and water. I did manage to find about 30 in a front garden though... was very surprised.

The weather has been insanely hot, this last week. It's cooled down markedly, since about Wednesday. The same garden near me, that I walk past, has had non-magic shrooms in it the whole way through, which is pretty weird. I guess some species just deal with odd weather well.

Went out today later than wanted but picked a few and the lads with me weren't happy with the ones in the field. I kept a few in image attached. There were other people in the field gathering them up so if you can give me your opinion on them I'd appreciate it before I go hunting again. Went to another so called good location and no joy there really. Hopefully tomorrow gives more! I thought the one far left and the two middle were good?

Two of those mushrooms I wouldn't be so sure about being libs.. ( the ones with the more yellow and bulky stems)
The rest are fine though.

There are often white gilled mushrooms that look similar to liberty caps WhiteDove. They sprout up in the same vicinity as the libs. dont eat them they are poisneous.

I was told that the rule of thumb when picking mushrooms was to never eat anything with
white gills.. The gills of magic mushrooms are brown.

( The brown fringe on the suspect two looks liberty capish to me )

how long does it take for mushies to re-appear in the same field? i left a bit of the steam and the roots on everyone i picked. will more grow in the same field in one season?

No, 1,3 and 4 are liberty caps, 2 and 5 are not.

Cheers folks! I know what I'm looking for now. My mates were wrong on the good mushies and the other lads in the field were wrong too. Might try and get back there tomorrow before work if I can get out of bed. Couldn't get out of bed this morning to go lookin.
I noticed they turned dark and have shriveled up a bit since yesterday. the stalks seem to have evaporated almost or have become very fragile and wiry. Gonna jar them waiting for the rest!

They grow pretty quickly but each flush is less and less until a frost comes or no more mushies. they turn brown as they get older too which makes them harder to spot

Also woah, you could be right.. almost alll of them mushrooms could be libs because the caps split on libertys don't they? ( I'm not sure haven't seen liberties do this but i know most mushrooms do)

Make sure you don't pull any of the mycelium out of the ground when picking - If you do then less will grow there.
Just snap them at the bottom of the stalk.

I've heard rumors that farmers can spray their fields with certain chemicals that stop mycelium growth.. does any one know if this is true?? I would be sad if it was.

It is true, but unless the farmer has some sort of personal vendetta against mushroom users, it's really not worth their time or money.

That said, if you are noisy, drop litter, damage seedlings or scare livestock, they will have a reason. I'm sure it doesn't really need to be said, but be considerate when you're picking.

On another note, what do people use to collect in? I was always told to use a wicker basket so spores could fall through the gaps, but I've decided a cooking sieve is more readily available and has more gaps for spores to spread through.

Best to look as inconspicuous as possible :P A friend advise me to take my dog for a walk haha, all of a sudden my dog was shitting every two seconds and they resembled little liberty cap mushrooms.
