Looking to hear from people who have a successful career and smoke weed regularly/multiple times a week.

What exactly are you looking to hear about? Plenty of people are successful and smoke pot as well as use other drugs...there are some threads in Education & Careers about drug use, and also, "gainfully employed" being $35,000 really depends on where in the world you are/what city you are in. I'm going to close this, any objections please feel free to PM me.

EDIT: Moving to Education & Careers...mods, feel free to close it over there/do what you will with it.

My aunt works for the Post Office (not delivery) and pulls in a pretty decent salary. She smokes every day, and anyone who says that weed is not addictive should see her without it. I wouldn't be surprised if she burns a quick one on her lunch break. I'm sure she had to pass a drug test to get the job, but they sure as hell don't test her anymore. She's up at 5am every weekday for work though, that might not suit you well.

We need more information on your age/education/general areas of interests or your thread will go nowhere and probably be closed.

Being an accountant or lawyer works fine for this. The truth is, once you put on a suit and have enough money to take care of yourself, pretty much no one is going to make you piss in a cup unless you obviously have a cocaine problem. Like really obviously. ime, it's possible to pull $50,000 plus and smoke weed whenever you want, just don't let that stereotypical pothead mentality spill over around more conservative people.

yeah, just don't be stupid about it and anyone would be fine.

if it doesn't interfere with work, then it doesn't interfere with work.

I know successful people who started smoking after they became succesful and they are fine, but i'd have to admit that i've never seen a hardcore stoner become successful without either quitting completely or cutting down drastically, I'm sure many many people have done it but from MY experience I haven't seen it.

It affects your memory and motivation too much I think, to do it you must have a lot of self control imo.

Hell, I was making about 60k a year and kept up my heroin habit for quite awhile. I did my couple doses throughout the day, and got all my work done too. It wasn't till I lost my job things turned south. When I was slinging dope, I would say that at 50% or more of my people were gainfully employed. Less then half of them were degenerate thieves or trustfund babies. You would be amazed how many people can use everyday and still be responsible to goto work and take care of themselves.
I always say given relatively unlimited access to their DOC when money is not an issue, most mature people can control themselves and keep their life together. It's only when money becomes an issue things go bad.

The rest of your post was spot on btw....I was just curious what job you did? I'm at a crossroads in my life and trying to get ideas of sectors to delve into!

Kudos for keeping up your habit but not allowing it to control your life and destroy your well-being. Of course, when you lost your job that was bound to happen as you not only have alot more time on your hands, but suddenly find you have lowered self-esteem and whatnot.

I smoke weed every night when my responsibilities at work and at home are done.
I did quit for 3 months when I had mandatory screening when initially employed. As a daily smoker for at least 10 years prior to testing, I wasn't that hard to do. If my work drug tested on the regular, I would quit smoking. Simple as that.

Stoners stick out like a sore thumb in the workplace. Management will know you're a stoner.

Sure they go to work and do ok, but noticably and consistently struggle with anything requiring inititive or critical thinking. A partern of mistakes, generally unimportant or minor mistakes, is generally a feature of their work.

Their social attitude varies from person to person, but under it almost always the guys are passive agressive and the girls are moody.

So yeah, you will get by at your 35k job, but you are probably going to be overlooked at promotion time.

Wow, I'm sure you know what you're talking about, but those are some pretty broad generalizations. Too bad Steve Jobs was a stoner, he might have made something of himself :D

Yeah very broad, statements like that will never apply to all. Perhaps I should clarify, a stoner is to weed as an alcoholic is to beer, daily/chronic use. Occasional use not relevant imo.

Steve Jobs I'm sure blazed up a fat spliff or three in his time, but a stoner he was not.

Not that its really relevant, but he did get fired from his job back then :P

I guess I fit here.
The trick to being successful in a career and blazing (at least in my case)?
Don't get high before or during work.
I treat weed like a nice bonus at the end of the day. :)

Yep, I used to fit in that catagory too and had no problem at work (maybe even better than now). Never smoked before going to work. I've stopped smoking a lot to save money and because my wife isn't smoking because of being tested for being hired and I don't want to smoke when she can't
