I'm sorry, but who are you to decide where 'our' attention should be directed??? what a ridiculously simplistic, childish, and hypocritical thing to say. if we should all be focusing our attention on saving lives, then what are you doing wasting your time & energy posting on the internet in a thread like this?

there are so many things wrong with your attitude on this subject, I don't even know where to start. If you really haven't been subjected to any form of gender bias in your life, then I'm happy for you. But the real world is going to be a shock to you, if you ever go out into it.

if you ever came out to my oil platform to work, you'd implode with feminazi rage within 2 minutes.

gaaaaahhhh... I can't quite figure out which particular brand of logical fallacy/straw man/etc. that is, but it's definitely a transparent form of conversational terrorism.

It's not like she has the power to decide anything for anyone. Clearly we all give a finite amount of time to causes and charities, and as such have to prioritise. And I for one am in agreement with chinup that of all the causes I could spend my 2 hours of caring on per week, feminism in the West is way at the bottom. Kind of like how I hear someone whining about the Israel/Palestine situation that affects a very small amount of people every other day, but when I ask those same people what they think about what's happening in Western Africa or Darfur they look at me like i'm from another planet.

I wouldn't kill him. I'm not gonna get my hands that dirty for his sake, he isn't worth it by miles. I don't think I would be able to not at least break his legs, or something similar.

This is where items such as baliclava's and cricket bats can actually come in handy. I'm sure he'd be less of a public nuisance in a wheel chair.

Sorry to hear about your mate though that's horrible. Back when meph was legal I remember a mate of mine was selling the stuff, stupidly went to a bad area of town to drop off a few gs and got beat half to death by a big gang of them, they also helped themselves to the other big bag of meph he had on him and all his cash. I guess that's meph addicts for you though, I'm shocked to hear such things happen over weed :\

I blame prohibition... Then again the irony of saying that when your mate was done over for some meph is not lost on me. Maybe I blame humanity, what a bunch of cunts we are!

to be completely fair felix. i'm only on it cos i'm so fecked off with how SG always talks about women as objects, to have sex with or reject for sex, i.e. as a chauvinistic misogynist, that i can't actually believe he's a feminist. so its that plus my personal niggles about it plus the total failure to present decent empirical evidence (marmalade did btu didn't respond to some of my qualms about it, such as, where are the corresponding figures for men- i can't even make a comparison here!!!) that is making me behave this way.

i could probably put my arguments in a more sound and justified fashion, as i have been well trained to do so, but i'm too busy trying to write a research paper about something that may actually be of use to humanity.

to be fair if i came to your oil platform i'd prob spend all day shagging the hot men.

uhhhh... correct, that was my point.

ah, you must have a very busy life indeed if you only have two hours per week to care about something. I'm just gonna stick to caring about lots of different things.

you must be great fun at parties. ;)

hahaha, and I thought *I* was being patronising. :D

touché!

and end of subject as far as I'm concerned.

btw what's the subject? it's about handbags, isn't it? ;)

I'll come to the oil rig with you chin.. but only if the blokes there are the stella drinking, Top Gear watching slap you on the arse and tell you to put the kettle on types.. swoon

Quiche making new men will get chucked to the sharks

Sorry, when people say 'who are you to decide where our attention should be directed' my mind doesn't instantly jump to that person actually meaning 'you don't have the power to decide for anyone else'. I guess i'm from this weird school of thought where people write what they mean.

2 hours was just a number pulled out of the air as an example. Even if I didn't sleep and I spent all my time caring about the problems of the world, I would not dedicate a single minute to feminism in the West in an entire year. Strangely enough I don't talk about these sorts of things at parties, because people seem to think it is the equivalent of whipping your wang out and taking a big piss all over the host.

Thank you :) I already pretty much do see it your way. Not insofar as I believe he's ever going to feel bad for what he's done, but that an eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind.

I think the whole world is blind already, but
Without turning this into an argument, do you think it's right that's someone would be able to intentionally kill someone
and end their life and their families lives should be able to walk free and live thier lives in ten years? You could lock them up for life and have them cost 33k or whatever it costs now to keep them locked up every year for the rest of their lives, is that right? End peoples lives then cost the whole country that amount of money! IMO that is a crime all of it's own, these are the reasons I believe in an eye for an eye, the death penalty.

I mean if it's good for America right? ;) jokes

Nah I believe a genuinely fair justice system is necessary. 10 years is no where near a long enough sentence. I don't think the death penalty works; To kill someone in a Western country you'd have to spend waaaay more on lawyers than you'd ever save on locking them up. It also doesn't seem to provide a deterrant. And that's before we get to the fact that it is a permenant punishment, and it's very rare that we could ever be sure enough of a conviction to kill someone. There have just been way too many miscarriages of justice; Especially when the evidence used to prosecute and subsequently kill people more often than not comes from police officers who can't be trusted.

oh, I do apologise.

Do you have a link handy to describe that specific brand of debaters that selectively snip parts of people's arguments?

The rhetorical question should really have been 'who are you to suggest what people prioritise?', there was never any deciding about it. I can't decide if poorly wording something then trying to make out the person who misinterpreted is an idiot is worse than selective quoting.

Felix that is a very good point about the miscarriages of justice, one I completely overlooked! That's why I post my opinions, the hope to see things from a different perspective, as I was writing my post I was wondering how much it would cost to have someone sentenced to death, but I posted it anyway. A life sentence should mean a life sentence if it truly is cheaper the sentencing someone to death

It was me who posted that :P. I am also a fan of the idea that if there is nothing the state can legally sentence a citizen to death for, then it causes them a lot of trouble when they want to turn tyranical. China would be transformed overnight if the powers that be lost their right to execute people.
