There are countries such as the U.S. where you can legally order the ingredients online and mix it into an illegal, nasty, psychedelic broth, but in Australia, the ingredients of ayahuasca are illegal, aren't they?

This is a bit annoying. It's going to make it harder than I thought to get my hands on some.

It's not a sourcing question, availability in Australia isn't necessarily common sense, and I don't see this getting mentioned a whole lot on the Australia forums, so I'm vaguely insulted and a little confused. Do me a favour and explain what I've said that was so stupid?

DMT is found in acacia species which are not illegal, but extracting it is. For ayahausaca you would need an MAOI which may be taken in the form of an anti depressant or some plants contain it. Got no idea which ones.

No HR value. Bordering on Sourcing.

Ok firstly this thread should be closed. The harm reduction value here is zero. The OP is basically asking where they can purchase chakruna and caapi in Australia. Simply put the brew is illegal in Australia. So is everything else.

May I ask why you want to RISK making it yourself? Do you know the ratios of the medicines? I am once again assuming, the answer is no. Ayahuasca is a medicine used by shamans and given in traditional rituals which assists the experience. I am assuming you plan on getting high listening to some music in your lounge. Big mistake. This medicine is not something that should or CAN PHYSICALLY be done recreationally, unless you like throwing up for 3 hours straight?

Please mods, close this up. Young kids could come by, think they can make it, and end up in hospital.

Okay, now I understand. I'm honestly not asking for sources, just looking for confirmation that it's illegal here, and no, I wasn't planning to chill out in my room listening to music. I understand that ayahuasca is a seriously powerful substance and I'm not taking it for shits and giggles. I use psychedelics strictly for self-developmental purposes. In my understanding, ayahuasca is a hard teacher, but perfect for that intent.

I also know that many other members on this site brew their own ayahuasca and don't have any problems, so I assumed, perhaps foolishly, that brewing it isn't that different from brewing san pedro juice, if a bit more complex. For harm reduction value, would they really be better off travelling all the way to South America? It seems an unnecessary precaution, but perhaps I'm mistaken.

I was planning to take ayahuasca early next year, in a quiet room with a friend supervising. I understand that there's a great deal of purging involved. It might not be pleasant, but I'm pretty sure it's not going to kill me. Part of the reason I'm considering it is as preparation for ibogaine treatment (depression, not drug addiction). Sorry that it came across the way it did.

^ Best you save your pennies, head to Peru (Iquitos), and do this under the watchful eye of a professional who has had this taught to him/her for generations.

It certainly is not something you can brew yourself SAFELY. Sure you can attempt it, and even POSSIBLY (sorry mods), import the things you need fairly easily, but speaking from experience, do not take a risk. It may do more hard than good to a novice who hasn't experience the true effects this wonderful plant can have.

If you ignore my advice, stay safe and good luck on your journey.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Since travelling to Peru isn't an option at this point, I'm going to have to weigh up whether I really want to take ayahuasca at this time in my life. Perhaps there are safe alternatives to brewing it myself... I'll look into it. Cheers.

What can potentially go wrong if I brew it myself? And can I also ask what your bad experience involved?

I wont go into things to much, you could ingest too much, too much of the DMT can result in permanent psychosis. Monoamine oxidase (MAO(I)nhibitors blocks this) is responsible for the deactivation of active monoamines such as epinephrine, norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin. To much of any MAOI (called Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor Toxicity), or overdose can have severe symptoms, including: severe hyperpyrexia, seizures, CNS depression, coma, cardiorespiratory depression and possible death.

This is not something for someone to play with if they have NO experience with DMT or MAOI plants. Best advice I can give is to find something else (perhaps go see a doc), and do something which wont have such severe effects if done the wrong way.

PLEASE be careful.

Mm, that's... considerably nastier than I expected. Thanks for your feedback. I'll probably be sticking to safer entheogens for now.

Hahaha, I've been there. It was the worst trip and the worst four hours of my life. Mind you, it turns out the shrooms I ate were actually quite potent. But I've had far better success with LSD and san pedro so far. Iboga root is my holy grail, I expect to experience it sometime next year. Ayahuasca, it seems, will unfortunately have to wait until I can afford to visit South America. I will try shrooms again one day, but starting with a gram or less this time.

I learnt that via a hard, but fortunately not lasting, lesson. I started with a half tab of LSD and a very small amount of cactus, only enough for a threshold trip. Nothing sucks like being stuck in a bad trip for hour after hour, and I'd go to great lengths to avoid it happening again.

DMT thread is over here chaps :) http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/threads/573047-Australian-DMT

I'm closing this; I think the original posters queries have been answered (thanks psytaco, ayahuascaseeker and verybuffed). Flickering please search around the existing threads before starting a new one. Asking whether particular plants/extractions are legal is tolerated but you have to see that your original post does look like it's bordering on a sourcing/availability request, which are most certainly not. You may also wish to try smoking DMT before taking Ayahuasca too?
