I'm really stressing out lately. I found out I have 4 majorly herniated discs, two of which with disc desiccation. One is pressing on my spinal cord causing tremendous pain down my legs. I was prescribed Tramadol and 5mg Percocets for the time being until I see my neurologist which I'm in waiting for.

The problem is that I'm tolerant to at least 30mg of Oxy and need at a minimum 15mg for threshold effects. The only way I'm going to get adequate analgesia right now is if I stack the tramadol 50mg's on top of the Percocet, otherwise I'm going to go through my small Percocet prescription in 3 days. I'm sure the neurologist will take care of me or recommend pain management, but I still most likely won't have an appointment for another week, and I'm in absolutely crippling pain.

My concern is seizures. I've been on Tramadol for about 2 weeks now and have had no problems. In that time my condition has steadily gotten worse and taking Tramadol alone right now is like taking water. Will mixing the tramadol with the percocet increase the likelihood of seizures or are they contraindicated because they're both CNS depressants?

I really, really need advice.

My GP thinks I'm opiate naive and my source for 30mg Oxy is permanently gone. Perhaps for the better, I'm stuck doing things 100% legit.

Excellent. Thanks so much for the reassurance.

I'm going to stick to about 100mg of Tramadol with one or two percs. I just need to stretch my percs long enough to see my neurologist.

I try not to go over 400mg in A DAY, and I certainly wouldn't take more than 200mg in one dose even as a prescribed patient receiving 240 of them a month.

Someone suggested to me that I should take a "staggered dose" as I call it. I haven't noticed too much of a difference, but if you already have some tramadol in you the BA goes up apparently. What I mean by a "staggered dose" is that when I get up, I'll take all my meds, but I'll only take one 50mg Tramadol, wait 30 minutes for my stomach to drop, then take the other.

You may get quite a nod by mixing the two...

If he were completley opiate naive, maybe.. But as he stated, he already has a decent tolerance to oxycodone. Tramadol is not a strong opioid at all, and has a ceiling dose at which going over it drastically increases your risk of seizures (Around 400mg for most people). Also, both tramadol and percocet (oxycodone) are more stimulating than say morphine, dilaudid, or heroin. So I doubt he is going to get a 'big nod' from combining therapeutic doses of the two. I would not expect to achieve any sort of buzz from these, as your doses are not very high. Do your best to stick to your prescribed doses of the two until you can see your doctor again, and he shouldn't have a problem upping your dose as you have a very legitimate pain issue that needs to be addressed.

As others have said, combining the two should be just fine. Just try not to go over the seizure threshold with the tramadol, and if you are ingesting large amounts of APAP I recommend doing a cold water extraction to reduce the amount of APAP you are ingesting. Your liver will thank you.

i've been on an oxycontin/tramadol schedule for over a year now and have had not one bad interaction between the two. i'm also prescribed valium which also lowers the seizure threshold.

if you're concerned then maybe ask your doctor about adding a benzo, preferably an anticonvulsant

Thanks for the reassurances guys, really appreciate it. I saw the contraindications for Tramadol being other opiates, but most of what I read was never clear on if mixing them is a legitimate seizure risk or more for CNS depression.

Having the oxy habit I did hid the pain I've been living with for quite a while, and now I've come to find out I may actually need surgery to correct the disk degradation and bulging I've been experiencing. Unfortunately, my habit ended just as I was coming to acute phase of my back injuries (and first even learning about them). I haven't had pain this severe ever, and it's because my back was getting worse and worse and I apparently have been continuously injuring it.

I mixed one perc with two Tramadol and got a mild buzz but actually quite effective analgesia. I was able to function today which is all I'm really looking for right now.

^^^This site is amazing :] Anyway I've taken morphine with benzos, soma, and alcohol and have been fine. Not smart, but I did it in small doses. So as long as you don't over do it but it looks like you have got a handle on it for now.
