Combinging changa with MDMA

Since many changa mixtures contain harmala or other MAOI:s, is it dangerous to smoke changa around the time of being on MDMA?

I know many people have done this without complications and I haven't heard of any problems, but I'd like to know hard facts.

I remember something vague about (most?) plant-based MAOI not being a problem with MDMA; also wondering if the MAOI effect even exists when smoking it. If, how long does the MAOI effect last?

I'm not sure about whether the MAOI is absorbed during smoking, but the mix of an MAOI and MDMA is very dangerous. A quote of resulting side-effects, "Hypertensive crisis, intracranial hemorrhage, hypertonicity, and severe hyperthermia". It doesn't sound worth the risk. DMT and MDMA I have heard to be combined but thats when it's a crystal pure form of DMT.

Also it is dangerous not only to mix the MAOI with MDMA but also anytime within at least 2 weeks of each other, maybe longer.

I've heard of people smoking DMT while on MDMA, but I feel that's almost too much. The point of smoking DMT seems to be send you brain to outer space, it's meant to be sinister and maybe even a little overwhelming.

If you're not sure about this combo, or you can't find information about the chemical interaction of these two substances, I would avoid doing this combo. As Tyd writes, MDMA + MAOI is a bad idea.

Yeah, I'm not planning on this combo, it's just that I've been worried about, really, a lot of people doing it on festivals; also there's people randomly offering/selling changa to people who may do (or be on) MDMA - probably without even knowing about the possibly dangerous combination.

Yes, it is dangerous. Mixing MAOIs of any sort with MDMA is dangerous. Some are more dangerous than others. Any MAOI that makes DMT more active inhibits MAO-A, the MAO that degrades serotonin, and hence is not safe to take with MDMA.

Don't ever mix MAOI's with MDMA or any other serotonergic drug. I would avoid MAOI's for at least 24 hours after consuming MDMA, and avoid MDMA for at least 48 hours after consuming an MAOI (longer if the dose was large or the MAOI has a long halflife), to be safe.

And it is also a proven fact that the MAOI is active by smoking? Is there some study about this, or strong anecdotal evidence?

(I'm not saying that I doubt it very much, I'd just like to have strong and clear evidence - also because I want to be able to talk about this based on more than just hearsay or assumptions.)

I can't say for certain, if it is an active MAOI inhibitor, I would consider it potentially dangerous.

I am aware of no study which has investigated this. Cursory search doesn't turn up any information about the decomposition temperature of harmala alkaloids either.
