First off hello to everyone, this is my first post! I am a 24year old male w/ chronic severe back pain. here's my story:
Well I have had chronic back pain since January 2010 when I first felt like something wasn't right after lifting some 80-100lb boxes off a pallet at work. When i first went to the ER i was given a shot of ibuprofen or some NSAID because I think they believed I was faking. I left the hospital with a prescription for Skelaxin(a type of muscle relaxer) and low dose Tramadol(35 or 37mg i think). After seeing my orthopedic he believed I had just pulled my back out and sent me on my way with a different muscle relaxer(flexeril 10mg) and some more Tramadol. Well the next 3 months of physical therepy, medral dose packs, and constant stretching as well as taking tons of Tramadol/flexeril didn't do much at all for my pain but maybe help me dose off without even noticing for 10-15min periods.
After the 3rd month went by I finally got an MRI setup through workers comp. It showed that I have a slightly narrow spinal canal, bulging discs at L3-L4 and L4-L5 and a right disc herniation at L5-S1. From there I finally got prescribed a real opiate....5/500mg Vicodin. I started seeing a chiropractor and was referred off to Pain Management. My Pain Management Doctor didn't like Vicodin which wasn't doing much for me anyway aside from killing my liver, he prescribed me Opana 5mg, Opana er 15mg. A few months later after a few epidural injections I switched from Opana back to Norco 7.5/325's because of stomach issues with the Opana. Needless to say I didn't get much relief, I actually was just getting a slight buzz from taking 2-3 norcos every 4-5hours. From there I went in an started on Nucynta, introduced to me as a opiate close to perc's/morphine in pain reduction. I started with 50mg every 4-6, went up to 100mg every 8hours, then to 100mg every 6 hours(which was really like 150mg every 6hours since i slept 4-6hours). All was pretty good for the 4-6months of dose building as I needed it. Come the 6month of nucynta I couldn't get through the night, I got prescribed Morphine Sulfate ER 15mg on top of the nucynta to take at night. Well the morphine like the opana wrecked my stomach(not sure if its an ER problem or what but I stopped taking it) So I was then instructed to take an extra 50mg nucynta as my last dose going to sleep for a final dose of 450mg/day.
Nucynta has been the best Pain Relief I have experienced thus far without many side effects but I will soon learn it was not for nothing. I recently moved from NY to NC and have yet to see a doctor down here because of issues with NY workers comp. I moved just over 6 weeks ago and have since weaned off the Nucynta with a months supply of Nucynta 240count 50mg pills. The withdrawal from Nucynta was nothing like I ever experienced switching from opiate to opiate. The night sweats, the paranoia, sleepless nights, pain throughout my body, hair standing feelings of bugs crawling all over your skin, and outright awful diarrhea every 2-3hours. I was able to hold food down but it would be out in an hour or two so it was almost pointless to eat, I tried the OTC anti-diarrhea pills, took upwards of 8-10 and still hadn't touched the problem. Keep in mind I did step down from 450mg to 300mg to 150mg to 50mg in about 4weeks time and then stopped it altogether.
After getting completely fed up and ready to give up and just head to the ER or out to the street I read about Cobroxin/Nyloxin(main ingredient is 4x Diluted Asian Cobra Venom). I found it for $20 for a 1ml bottle of the oral spray at my Walgreen's local drug store. I have to say it was either a placebo effect or there really is something to this stuff. After a few days of taking the Cobroxin my withdrawal side effects almost outright disappeared. And my pain relief is similar to when I was on the nucynta itself after a week of being on it. Has anyone had any experience with Cobroxin/Nyloxin otc pain reliever? I don't like taking NSAIDS as they just plain don't do a god damn thing for me but this stuff seems to be legit, although with the lack of information I am worried about the effects it might have on my body. At the same time being in pain without any relief nearly drives me to jump off a cliff.
I know some of this may come off as a random rambling but I just wanted to share my experience with the Nucynta and Cobroxin; 2 drugs I really can't find much information on the web about and I am sure many of you are looking for just as I was before I started taking it. As of right now I am just taking the Cobroxin and on occasional Norco or 2 as needed to sleep from some leftovers that I had from switching meds. Not sure what my new Pain Management doctor is going to say this week when I FINALLY go in to see him. Thanks for taking the time to read my story!
