Benzo potentiation with Gabapentin?

I've read somewhere that if you take a therapeutic dose of a benzo and Gabapentin, it will potentiate the benzo quite a bit. Anybody have some information on this? Plan on taking 10 mg Diazepam, 10 mg Librium, and 2100 mg Gabapentin. I have no tolerance to any of these drugs.

Thanks!

definitely, expect your benzos to hit like a truck with gabapentin. i usually took my lyrica/gabapentin 1-2hours before i dosed my klonopin or any other benzo...add some weed and i weas a happy camper

Could you tell me your dosage with Gabapentin? Not sure what the "Common dose" is :P

I can most definitely tell you you are on the high end of a theraputic dose for Gabapentin. You should have no problems as you are already accustomed to benzo usage. It won't be anything more major than just a little more sedation if you even have that anymore from the benzos.

dude , over 2000 mg is not a theraputic dose , thats extremely misleading and your post might cause people to get very sic

EDIT: just realized this was a year old post sorry if i wasnt supposed to comment on it . been a long time since i posted here

^ typically it's not good to bump old thread, but at least you had good HR information to add ;)

Also, it's not exactly poteniating benzos by taking gabapentin, just combining 2 sedating medications to get stronger effects but around here people often use potentiation to mean synergy.

i think the term potentiation is useful here, since they are both largely GABAergic.

i imagine 2100mg gabapentin would make me fall asleep for about a whole day...

In this case, gabapentin potentiates AND synergizes benzos here, since not only are they both GABAergic and the effect is increased (potentiation), but gabapentin also significantly synergizes with benzos/alcohol, since it basically increases levels of GABA in the brain, which benzos/alcohol (positive allosoteric modulators of GABA) don't do.

Potentiate = "To enhance or increase the effect of (a drug); To promote or strengthen (a biochemical or physiological action or effect); To make potent or powerful"

Synergize = "The interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects."

Source for definitions.

I would stay far, far away from mixing mega doses of gabapentin/pregs with alcohol or benzos, it has the potential to get wayyy too sloppy and unpredictable. Also, high doses of gabapentin/pregs can actually CAUSE seizures at high dosages, so they aren't exactly the safest drugs to abuse.

I for one have a lot of experience with gabapentin. It honestly is one of my favorite meds to use recreationaly. Alone it can produce very nice effects. I was prescribed gabapentin for nearly 3 years. I was given for a nerve injury I acquired but it never helped the pain. I stopped taking it only weeks after being prescribed but some odd reason still picked it up every month for a year and a half before I discovered the recreational value.

For a very long time I would take it once every two weeks,, no sooner to avoid tolerance. I would take 10000-15000mg. On occasion I would take a smaller dose of around 3100mg along with 5mg of Xanax and get quite pronounced effects. So yes, as others have said it both potentiates and has synergenic effects on benzodiazapines.

i would agree on both fronts etiz and my normal dose of gabapentin was amazing when i did benzos(2500mg gabapentin+3mg etiz) also i would say that gabapentin when i had no tolerance and took 4000mg tapered i experienced the most euphoric time and had flat out open eye visuals and saw morphing objects, a very benign compound I could go without it for days and have assumed it was a bit safer then lyrica(only other compound i like more then gabapentin)

Ahh, you mention experiencing visuals and morphine of objects. A couple time while on a very high dose of about 10,000mg or so, I experienced some visual morphing effects similar to Lsd. The effects didn't last long, but were very noticeable for about 20 minutes.

At a dose of 10g+ I sink into a dream like state. I'm still able to function but my coordination is highly impaired and talking with people of authority becomes much more difficult.
Thoughts are open ended and my attention span is about 5 seconds. Its very pleasurable :)

The best part is that it doesn't have lingering after effects. Sleeping is wonderful on it and the next day I feel Good as new.
