Opioids Change of meds to Pethidine does anyone have experience with Pethidine

Hi

I have just had a medication change from dihydrocodeine/oxycontin to pethidine for acute back pain and i find that the pethidine just spaces me out and gives very little pain relief and no warmth and secure feeling like the oxy. I have got to go to work tomorrow and i dont feel they will help with my pain and i will feel really spaced.

Does anyone have any experience with Pethidine compared to other opiates

I would consider this a downgrade pain wise unless your getting it IV or injected, in which case its one of the very best perhaps better than heroin to some. In oral form its total shit IMO and weaker than oxy.

Spaceyness is probably because its also an anti-cholinergic, and that can make people feel stupid. Its a dirty nasty opiate with a high prevalence of side effects, and at high doses it has toxic metabolites and what not. Not a good med for chronic use and reminds me of a more powerful euphoric darvocet.

they are 50mg tablets!! what would you say is a reasonable dose? considering i have a pretty high tolerance.

I think i will be going back to my GP !! he gave me them because the oxy where not working like they used too and thought that the change might help my tolerance
Can you mix them with anything so you dont have to take high doses? and counteract the spacy feeling.

I had IM shot of pethidine, it didn't help me, but my pain is difficult to control, and i have high tolera
nce cause i take fent 100 every 48 hours. So, i think it's too weak, but that's just my opinion..

Pethedine is a very weak opioid, you're not going to get much out of it if you were a regular OxyContin user.

450mg meperidine/pethidine = 30mg oxycodone. Don't take that much or you'll feel like shit though.

Talk to your doctor, not us. There's nothing you can do to make meperidine less shitty.
