I had to do this several years ago so it isn't a current issue for but I've always wondered how others
have done this.
My psych wrote a letter that was detailed enough to convince them that I needed residential treatment,
but not so detailed that it sent my employer on a witch hunt. I had a supportive sibling (brother) who
worked for large companies and knew the ins-and-outs of FMLA leave and ADA protection. Because
I was an absolute wreck at the time, it was good to have someone rational there, otherwise I would
have cried throughout the entire meeting.
They were supportive, protected my right to privacy (although I know there was some gossip about
it but who cares) and I returned to my job after 6 weeks.
Anyone else ever have to do this, and, if so, how did you handle it?
