Alert as thousands of packs of Nurofen Plus could contain anti-psychotic drugs
By Mirror.co.uk 25/08/2011

People are being warned to check packs of Nurofen Plus after it emerged that thousands of them could mistakenly contain anti-psychotic drugs.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) issued a safety alert following reports that some batches of Nurofen Plus contain individual blister packs of another drug, Seroquel XL 50mg.

The mix-up is believed to have happened at a wholesaler's and thousands of packs could potentially be affected, prompting the MHRA to urge extra vigilance.

The packs have been found in pharmacies across the UK.

Seroquel XL is a prescription-only anti-psychotic drug used to treat several disorders including schizophrenia, mania and bipolar depression.

Very odd

This is very odd, how the hell can this mix-up happen when the drugs are manufactured by different companies, unless they use the same company to package the meds into boxes.

If the world was a more just place, the switch-up would have been with a more enjoyable prescription medication: Desoxyn, Dilaudid etc. (Discounting, of course, the horrors of addiction and other related phenomena. I still think it would be god damn sweet to get some o' dat real analgesia with a fat dash of euphoria if I was expecting Ibuprofen.)

Hehe, yeah it would be great if they'd put something good in instead!

I guess it's pretty obvious they're not ibuprofen, pills will be much smaller, it'll say seroquel (quetiapine 50mg) on the blister pack...

^ yes, seroquel would also probably knock you out. It'd suck to end up taking seroquel accidentally though especially if you took a bunch for a mild codeine high.

hmm

Pharmacists have been told to check every pack of Nurofen Plus to look for anti-psychotic drugs after sabotaged packs were found in Boots stores across London.
The move comes after a safety alert was issued yesterday when packets of the popular painkiller were found to contain Seroquel XL, a powerful drug used to treat schizophrenia.
It is thought militant activists carried out the sabotage operation with the intention of damaging Nurofen Plus’s makers, Reckitt Benckiser.

Well so says the DM.
