Opioids regular tramadol use and health

I have been a regular user of tramadol for over 2 years now. I take 400mg a day and never go over that amount. (I'm religious about it) I am very, very happy with my situation as far as the overall opiate effect goes, but I am starting to be concerned about the potential health risks, aka my liver, kidneys, etc. I can't seem to find anything conclusive on the internet...all information is geared toward folks with liver or kidney diseases and the effect that tramadol could have on them...but nothing on starting with a healthy set of organs. I've tried to parse out the scientific information that is available, but to be honest, I get lost and I can't seem to come up with anything directly relevant. Anyone out there have an opinion...facts...personal experience they wouldn't mind sharing? Thanks.

recreation...relief from lower back pain is a great side effect, though...

I would think it affect your natural seratonin in an unpleasant way more than anything...how it would effect
your liver (breaking it down everyday is a good question) Anybody ??

Ive tried it for scoliosis but it doesnt take away my pain like hydrocodone unless I take 150mgs. I dont like the fact that I could get a seizure too.

As far as having your liver hurt by these meds, im sure if you over do it with opiates/opiods in one sitting or heavy use every day for long periods of time, it will affect your organs.

400mg is my self-induced dosage...which is the "safe" suggested amount. But, I do take the 400 all at once. In the world of opiate use, is that considered "heavy" enough to pose a threat to my liver?

I have pretty much the exact same question as the OP, and would be interested to hear everyone's thoughts.

I've been using tramadol for over 2 years for a back injury, and my standard CBC blood test always shows my liver/kidney function to be within normal range. That's all I have to go on right now in terms of the long term affect.

If your liver is healthy to begin with, and you aren't damaging it with APAP or alcohol, it will be fine. Same with kidneys. The risk is more the accumuation of the drug in patients with liver/kidney disease rather than the risk of tramadol damaging either organ.

If you are at the max dose of Tramadol, it would be wise to switch to a stronger or natural opiod like codeine, dihydrocodeine, or hydrocodone. You don't need the SNRI activity it has if you are using it long-term for pain, and it is agreed that all synthetic opiates are somewhat toxic compared to natural or semi-synthetic opiates which are really pretty benign.

thanks for the responses so far...gives me something to think about...and I hadn't thought about the difference between natural and synthetic opiates before...I'm going to do some research on that.

"all synthetic opiates are somewhat toxic compared to natural or semi-synthetic opiates"

that's a bold statement. the list on either end is enormous. where would one find information regarding these toxic synthetics?
