Amy Winehouse spokesman says toxicology tests show no illegal drugs in her body.

LONDON (AP) -- Amy Winehouse's family says toxicology tests show there were no illegal drugs in her system when she died.

They say the tests showed "alcohol was present," but it hasn't yet been determined if it played a role in the singer's death last month.

The 27-year-old soul diva was found dead in her London home on July 23, and an initial post-mortem failed to determine the cause of death.

A statement released Tuesday by spokesman Chris Goodman on the family's behalf said "toxicology results returned to the Winehouse family by authorities have confirmed that there were no illegal substances in Amy's system at the time of her death."

It said the family awaited the outcome of an inquest that is due to begin in October.

thanks for posting this, i tried to search for this the other day but it hadn't come out yet.

It stays no "illegal" drugs found in her body.
So im guessing, perhaps Methadone and Alcohol caused this death

How do I word this without it sounding stupid... Perhaps Amy's death due to alcohol withdrawal might accomplish (to a certain degree) what you usually don't read about when it comes to drugs in the media: Alcohol is not nearly as safe to regularly consume as a lot of (possibly ignorant) people think when compared to - for example - weed, or even mdma (pure mdma) for that matter. Just saying.

can you die of alcohol withdrawal while having alcohol in your system?

(ethanol, not the metabolite acetaldehyde)

Technically if there was ethanol in her blood then she wouldn't have been in withdrawal, right?

Maybe this will end up being like Brittany Murphy where everyone was saying drugs drugs drugs and the actual cause of death was a pathogen.

It didn't say how much alcohol though, if she had a serious drinking issue, she could've had a little to take away the worst of it but not nearly enough to lower her seizure threshold significantly. Some alcoholics drink what many others would think of as suicidal. For me, 12 drinks in a couple hours and I'm puking my brains out, blacked out. For some people, it takes 5 times that amount for the same effect to occur.

Then again, I felt like I got mixed reports of this. Like I felt like I've read different things about her death.

Depends on her tolerance. If - let's say - she was a chronic heavy drinker (consistently high levels of BAC) and then - again, let's say - she stopped cold turkey, then drank a couple of beers, she'd still be in some degree of withdrawal.

I realize it's not the same thing, but I've been on Xanax for close to 6 years now. If I were to cut my dosage in half immediately, I'd get mild-moderate withdrawal symptoms (at least that's what happened when I tried doing this a year back). I was anxious, shaky, mind was racing, involuntary muscle jerking, agitation, had to take some OTC shit for sleep, etc. It wasn't as severe as when I ran out completely one time and I had a seizure, but it was still very noticeable.

This is probably a heapin' steaming pile of nutty brown bull crap but, what if she was secretly poisoned by angry Serbian gangsters who paid to see her perform live in Belgrade and could not get refunds for their tickets after she forgot what city she was in ("Hello Athens!") and didn't remember the lyrics of her songs as well as the names of members of her band.

if your tolerance is 20 shots in a night, and you drink two beers one day to help with the withdrawals...

How come the responses in this thread aren't similar to a thread when a Bluelighter dies? This woman was obviously an alcoholic and perhaps drug addict and possibly died a very painful death. I feel horrible for her because I have seen what alcohol wd can do to people and it is horrible, I can only imagine that if benzo withdrawal feels similar to alcohol withdrawal, then death was probably a welcomed feeling. It pisses me off that people I know IRL have said things like she should have gone to rehab and other jokes. There's nothing funny about an alcoholic/addict dying, I guess I take it extremely personal because I have overdosed twice and spent roughly 4 minutes dead before I was brought back to life. My "best friend" drug my body into the road in front of his house and left me there for dead when I was actually dying, but the man upstairs was looking out for me.

Rest in Peace Amy, I never enjoyed your music, but no one deserves to die like this.

^I agree, bad taste to joke about drug related deaths, especially here. Even if this wasn't directly caused by drugs (can't say yet obviously), drugs obviously led up to her death.

Amy Winehouse died from too much alcohol, coroner says

(CBS/AP) LONDON - A coroner says that Amy Winehouse died as the unintended consequence of drinking too much alcohol.

Coroner Suzanne Greenaway gave a verdict of "death by misadventure," saying the singer had voluntarily consumed alcohol and risked the consequences.

The singer, who had fought drug and alcohol problems for years, was found dead in bed at her London home on July 23 at age 27. An initial autopsy proved inconclusive, although it found no traces of illegal drugs in her system.

A pathologist told the singer's inquest Wednesday that Winehouse had consumed a "very large quantity of alcohol" and was more than five times over the legal drunk-driving limit when she died.

I guess this nixes the death-by-alcohol-withdrawal theory.

At her funeral, her father, Mitch Winehouse, told mourners that his daughter had "conquered" her drug addiction and was "trying hard to deal with her drinking," according to the Daily Mail.

I know he's in mourning, but how can you have conquered your drug problem and still drink prodigiously?

I read on one site that she had been taking chlordiazepoxide but it didn't have any effect on her death. I would think that would be impossible, given the interaction between alcohol and benzodiazepines...

I though it was believed that se dies from alcohol withdrawal, which could true, given she was taking librium and she had no drugs in her system, meaning she could have been in pretty serious alcohol withdrawals. Just my theory though.
