I'm just curious if certain parts should not be eaten? I'm guessing the psilocybin would be mostly on a mushroom's head (top) but not so much on its bottom part. 8(

or you can just chop/grind it up into tiny little pieces if mushrooms don't tickle your fancy as they don't with me.
then drop in back of throat and swallow.

And yes, you can eat the stems, the caps are usually regarded as having a higher concentration though.

Caps and stems are approximately equipotent, in terms of psilocybin content% by mass. In fact it is often the spores and gills which are blamed for unpleasant taste or gastric distress, so stems are actually more desirable than caps. Spores do not contain psilocybin, and gill fragments are very low in psilocybin content, so "mushroom dust" at the bottom of the bag is *not* potent.

However, depending on the species and growing conditions, the absolute mass (grams) of mushroom flesh may be concentrated in the cap or stem.

For example, Panaeolus copelandia has a very frail stem that weighs just a few milligrams when dried, so there is obviously more drug present in the cap.

On the other hand, certain varieties of Psilocybe cubensis will grow a thick, meaty stem topped with a tiny, almost spore-less cap. So all the drug is in the stem.

I've seen both thick and thin stemmed Psilocybe cyanescens, as well as specimens of Psilocybe cyanofriscosa that had nearly a gram of dried cap mass.

So remember: mushrooms are not weed! Eat the whole thing and sprinkle the spore dust on your garden compost!

It's amanitas that have a potent cap, because most of the alkaloids are right under the red skin. Psilocybes as is said, have on average similar potency in stem and cap, but of course both can vary a lot like with all specimen, of other species as well.

In fact you could also eat the mycelium but only if there is no vermiculite and stuff in there. I you used bird seed, it's possible but perhaps not palatable. And it might be harder to see contaminated spots. But what is occasionally done with mycelium is extracting it with alcohol to get shroom juice (extract).

Aborts (little shrooms that stopped growing) are more potent by weight, probably because they have not entered a phase yet where there is mostly water absorbed from the mycelium into the fruit tissue. :)

so when i split a bag with my buddy and he wants all the caps, let him have 'em? ;)

my latest method of ingestion - mix into a smoothie with the fruit of your choice in a blender.

the other night m'lady and i whipped up a shroom, watermelon and pineapple delight.
negates the flavour of the fungus (if it's not your thing) and allows for more pleasant dosing and speedy onset.
mm mmmm :)
