Tramadol tolerance

Hi people ...

I've been daily abusing tramadol for around 10 months now, I am not the type of guy who would use drugs, but after trying it for the first time it was like the best day of my life and since I have ADHD (didn't know back then) I was able to focus and understand everything people saying for the first time in my life so it improved my social life not mentioning the positive impact on my work (computer programming) where I could keep working straight on a project without wasting my time every minute no matter how boring it is, and I could read and understand long and detailed learning resources without skipping to the end.

So it was like the potion of life for me, until I started taking 200 mg daily because of a very hard and complicated project, that's when I became addicted and unintentionally started increasing the dose so now I need at least 400 mg in one shot just to stay in a good mood, then I take smaller doses ~300 mg to maintain it, and its no longer make me focus at all but I set my limit to 700 mg / day to avoid seizures.

a week ago I was officially diagnosed with ADHD, and I am fighting with my psychiatrist to get a prescription for Adderall or similar which sounds cool, but he insisted to try strattera (didn't try to abuse it yet).

Also a friend of mine suggested to mix tramies with Kemadrin (procyclidine) which makes him fly high, but it has no effect on me (tried up to 10 mg)

  • So is it possible to reset my tolerance without going through a withdrawal which in my case an extreme fatigue and insane sleeping times (12+ hours!!), any tips??
  • Is it safe to mix all of these together?
  • Is strattera abusable?

I have access to:
  • Tramadol pills 100 mg each
  • Kemadrin (procyclidine) pills 5 mg each
  • Strattera pills 40 mg (currently taking 1 pill/day) which has no effect at all except irritating my stomach
  • Pregabalin (the worst thing ever)

Thanks in advance and sorry for the long and boring story which I wouldn't read in normal cases =D
And I cant tell the psychiatrist about it since he works for the government, yes 3 years jail for tramadol abuse ... I am leaving this shit-hole as soon as I can!

Hi Dandal

Someone else is gonna have to comment on the other drugs/questions you have...

Regarding re-setting your tolerance without going through withdrawal...probably not possible without some withdrawal. To do that - you'd have to get off Tramadol for an extended amount of time. Since you are taking 700mg a day (which from my understanding is still a very high dose and puts you at risk for seizures...thank God you obviously havent experienced that yet...I could be mistaken but I thought anything over 350-400mg a day put you at risk)...anyway you'd have to figure out a way to stop taking tramadol all together for awhile (probably a few weeks or a month or more) in order to drop your tolerance. I'm new to a lot of this...but from what I know...you have to completely get off a drug in order to drop your tolerance down. Sorry to say.

Good luck!

Hi Dandal, welcome to BDD!

I recommend having a browse of the guidelines in my sig and familiarising yourself with the Bluelight User Agreement. And swing by or social thread if you fancy!

Outoftown is right, you are taking a very high dose of tramadol - recommended daily limit is 400mg but people's response is highly variable - also, just because you haven't seized yet doesn't mean you won't in the future (especially if you take a drug which lowers seizure threshold... like amphetamines, so possibly like Strattera- am not familiar with it though sorry..)

Pregabalin would lower your risk of seizures, but to be honest I think you need to look at tapering safely down from the tramadol (to 400mg/day minimum) to be safe... ideally under medical supervision, although I appreciate this is unlikely.. OD is the place for tapering advice.

Not wanting to sound preachy, but if you have ADHD it might be best finding the best med to treat that before you investigate its recrational potential. Hehe that did sound preachy sorry, but best get your head in order before abusing your meds I always find.. ;)

And we are definitely not here to tell you what concotion of your pills will get you highest, I'm sorry! BL is a harm reduction form and here in BDD we are especially focussed on that..

pregabalin does not 'suck' just because you didn't achieve recreational effects. lyrica is actually quite effectivefor people with anxiety (GAD) and fibromyalgia. pregabalin could be potentially a life-saver for you as lyrica possesses anti-convulsant properties and is used in addition to other medications to treat epilepsy.

remember 'it's not if, it's when' you will have a seizure on high doses of tramadol.

Thank you guys

thank God you obviously havent experienced that yet
just because you haven't seized yet doesn't mean you won't in the future
'it's not if, it's when'
yep I didn't experience it yet, but you guys freaked me out! especially that I do drive a lot ... yikes!
And to be honest I did have spasms especially when I am trying to sleep, and once I was in the office working on a computer. my right hand suddenly moved sending the mouse a meter into the sky if this is a sign or something.
The scary thing is that I couldn't do it the same way it happened (it was a very fast rotational move it didn't move upwards) so if seizures produce similar powerful movements combining that I have a big body (2 meters high) I can do a lot of damage.

I recommend having a browse of the guidelines in my sig and familiarising yourself with the Bluelight User Agreement.
Sorry! I did actually have a peak ... but while my adhd is better than before I still find it hard to read detailed and not-so-interesting texts (this does not apply on writing :p)

pregabalin does not 'suck' just because you didn't achieve recreational effects
Never wanted the high, I was using it to fight tram withdrawals ... it made me sleep like dead for ages to wake up in a very bad mood.

Ok thank you guys for your concerns, I will start by cutting the dose to 400 or less, then I will try to completely stop for one day and see if Strattera or Cemadrine would help before getting lyrica which is expensive.
If it works I will go much farther down to 200 mg as far as it won't interfere with my job.
I just hope that this wouldn't cause depression. whenever I get rid of ADHD I will never abuse drugs again ... or at least not as frequent =D

Regards.

Good luck! :)

Didn't mean to freak you out as such, but the seizure potential in tramadol is very real. Hope you get on top of your ADHD soon :)

Don't feel you have to stop having fun with drugs, we are all posters on a drugs forum, albeit a harm reduction one, most of us probably do take drugs recreationally - just make sure you read up on em on here first so you stay safe ;)

I just lowered my tramadol dose from 600 to 350mg a day. I have been using it for about 11 months now (overall for 3-4 years with one year break before this). I have the absolutely same wd symptoms then you and of course extreme sweating too. I have found that taking a dose after I have slept like 6 or 7 hours (alarm clock) helps a lot. I just wake up feeling good about after an hour from taking that dose. And somehow I and many of my friends do think that tramadols effects are strangely better in lower doses than over 400mg. This is my third day at 350mg and I am not having any bad sensations other than sweating and pain(not from tramadol). If I can do it than you can do it! :)

I was bashing tramadol for the same reasons as you for a long time, until I ended up taking doses similar to you for an extended period of time. Once you have been through the withdrawal, which isn't so much a withdrawal as a month long come down, I really don't think you're going to want to go back to taking this stuff daily again. It is a very very sneaky drug. You will feel miserable and get aches that your brain tells you only tramadol can solve. After a month or two you will go back to getting a similar buzz to before, but your dose will escalate much faster than it did the first time around; Especially if you haven't gotten over the psychological addiction to it. I went cold turkey because I wanted to be done with the bullshit of being reliant on a pill, so i'm not sure if you'd have better results doing a nice gradual taper. For me, I had to decide not to take it again though, because once i've taken tramadol it is too easy to think 'just another one'.

I would honestly nip it in the bud so you can get on with your life and get on the right ADHD meds.

All the ADHD meds are abused by plenty of people as far as I can tell, some more than others...
