Is Xanax XR (alprazolam) just like something like clonazepam?

an XR xanax seems like it be very similar to kpins or something similar...assuming you just swallowed it normal

For some people they really are similar, considering Xanax XR (alprazolam extended-release) is just a short-acting benzo that is released slowly and clonazepam (Klonopin) is a long-acting benzo in its own right. So yes, unless you crush the Xanax XR or otherwise defeat the time-release mechanism and used it as it was intended to be used, it would be similar, bear in mind that different people react differently to different drugs (and this is very true when it comes to benzodiazepines).

I'm going to edit the title of this thread for easier searching in the future. :)

not as potent according to doctors. some people say that it affects them more though. benzos are odd.

i feel like it is so pointless to even make a Xanax XR. Why? Because xanax is a very short acting benzo that treats panic attacks, and stops it right in a stage of a panic attack, bringing you back to normal, then ina few hours you're fine and the xanax duration wears off. why make xanax time released if its really to prevent a panic attack as it's occuring? itonly takes 5-10mins for xanax to kick in, enough for a panic attack to simmer down, XR Xanax just seems like a bad idea considering how much more addictive it is then other benzos and the short half life, people who have "constant" panic attacks should just be on Klonopin as it has a duation of 8-12 hours, and you can take it in the AM, and the PM, it has a long half life, and works very well, and its not XR!! xanax XR = Stupid. i thought medically speaking benzos are only used for "short term" relief if anxiety, etc..? im on klonopin long term, 1mg AM, 1mg PM, it works fine and great. i rather be on klonopin then xanax, spare me i rather not have to pop xanax 4 times a day and worry bout withdrawl very fast from its short half life...and plus i dont see xanax XR killing mulitple panic attacks throughought the day anyway...the 1st dose during a panic will do its ajob, but aall i think XR is doing is prlolonging the duration of the sedation...and people still can panic under constant sedation, (hint hint xanax XR), its aCrock in my opinion

As someone mentioned earlier, certain Benzo's will work better for certain people. Alprazolam itself (Xanax) isn't necessarily for Panic Attacks, but it's one of the absolute best drugs on the market to prevent and reverse them. Hence why it's main purpose of prescription is for that reason. For someone who doesn't desire the sedation of other Benzo's, the concept of XR Xanax is anything but pointless. I don't buy into that 'shorter half-life equals more addictive' mentality. I think, just as with other things (Coffee in the morning, Cigarettes while drinking etc.), it's just the habit of taking it and feeling an instant relief. It's essentially the "downtime" that makes the instant gratification of the fast acting Xanax habitual (in my experience). If your redosing is happening on the sly, then you're not going to be thinking about your up-and-coming panic attacks and counting down the time until your next dose.

I only got the pleasure of taking xanax XR a handful of times, but I don't find them to be like kpins or valium at all (the longer acting ones.) It was short acting relief that just stayed around, if that makes sense...it felt different, it was still xanax, just without the need for redosing. I take ativan now, but still feel like an XR xanax would be great for anyone who really does have THAT intense of anxiety. For certain situations, they are definitely almost a blessing to have.

clons tricked me!! i took 1, felt nothing, waited an hour, took another...a little high..but not as good as xanax..so i popped 3 more...an hour later...strait up acting a fool!!

My experiences with the xanax xr is that it is very annoying drug. Of course if you are having panic attacks all the time, it might be great, but still I wouldn’t compare it to clonazepam. Every people I know that have RX for xanax xr also have another RX for xanax ir, ativan or valium. I used those as prescribed and those made me very miserable. Same time xanax ir was like a god blessing for panicking. In my opinion clonazepam has much more physical (longer lasting) effect then xanax xr.

I had my first (and last I hope, I don't seem prone to them, I think it was just the weed making me paranoid) panick attack ever a few months back, and I hurried into my room and popped 1mg alprazolam instant release and a few minutes later I was completely calm and in no way panicking, so for that purpose I think alprazolam is damn near perfect, and I even had a tolerance at the time. That's just my story obviously but I never liked clonazepam. It sticks around too long and really doesn't do anything for me except maybe make me a little tired. Alprazolam can actually make give me an euphoric calm if I take the right dose.

Similar but not the same, for me and many others, Clonazepam seems to have a longer lasting effect, and less side effects in the long run. I took Xanax for a couple of years and coming off that was a living hell

i cant really answer that but i will say this, the xanax xr in the us is a lot different then the xanax xr in holland but in holland it aint called XR its called xanax retard, my bro had a bad reaction to it, i caught my first benzo seizure after the dutch shit,

i will say this i'll take klonopin over xanax xr or even just xanax regular

Agreed.Klonopin is a much better drug in my opinion. And I mean for both therapeutic and recreational purposes. It lasts MUCH longer, and is just as potent, so it deals with anxiety much better. I am also actually able to get high on them.Xanax has such a damn short duration of action and high sedating effect, it takes a ridiculous dose to get a good buzz, even then I am too drowsy, not to mention, you come down almost instantly.Clonopin on the other hand, give a more euphoric, and much less sedating but still relaxing feeling, and last for several hours. And becuase of the long half life, you can strategically redose and keep a buzz all day, and even control it on the whim!!!Needless to say, Klonos are my favorite benzo, and the only one I'll take except Xanax for geniune anxiety. But back on topic, Xanax have only on advantage over Klonopin, and it's a big one: They take affect remarkably fast, giving almost instant relief of anxiety. That said, Xanax XR do seem sg???omewhat pointless to me; when I took them, felt like regular Xanax, except that they took longer too kick in, but lasted considerably longer, but we're also less intense. The thing is, they lost they're only edge, they're quick onset. So basically, it's like an inferior Klonopin, that's less potent and still doesn't last as long!!! So I have no clue why they decded to invent Xanax XR, since the only people I know who have tried both and prefer Xanax over Klonopin are idiot "kids" who are snorting them, and scoff that I take 8. I guess some people may react better to Xanax, but medically this can't justify a pointless and expensive new drug???
