A Mexican man charged with smuggling tons of cocaine into the United States told a federal judge in Chicago that U.S. authorities protected his outfit, the powerful Sinaloa cartel, in exchange for information on rival gangs.

The defendant, Jesus Vicente Zambada Niebla, is the son of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, reputed right-hand man of Sinaloa cartel boss Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, and played an important role in the organization until his March 2009 arrest in Mexico City.

Zambada Niebla was extradited to the United States in 2010 and will go on trial this week in Chicago.

In legal pleadings submitted to U.S. District Judge Ruben Castillo, Zambada Niebla said the collaboration between the Sinaloa cartel and U.S. law enforcement arose from the 1995 drug indictment of Mexican attorney Humberto Loya Castro, “a close confidante” of Chapo Guzman.

Loya subsequently became a U.S. government informant, according to the pleading.

“Sometime prior to 2004 ... the United States government entered into an agreement with Loya and the leadership of the Sinaloa Cartel, including Mayo and Chapo,” the document says. “Under that agreement, the Sinaloa Cartel, through Loya, was to provide information accumulated by Mayo, Chapo, and others, against rival Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations” to U.S. authorities.

“In return, the United States government agreed to dismiss the prosecution of the pending case against Loya, not to interfere with his drug trafficking activities and those of the Sinaloa Cartel, to not actively prosecute him, Chapo, Mayo, and the leadership of the Sinaloa Cartel, and to not apprehend them,” the pleading claims.

Just hours before his March 2009 arrest, Zambada Niebla said, he met at a Mexico City hotel with U.S. agents who assured him the arrangement was still in effect, but that he would start communicating directly with the Drug Enforcement Administration, rather than through Loya.

Drug war PLUS 1

wow, the governments ridiculousness never ceases to amaze me. fucking hypocritical assholes. they all should burn in hell

I take it with a grain of salt, but I can't say I'd be shocked if it was true. Hypocritical, yeah, but such tactics are used by LE...

I don't think this will be such an incendiary issue, even if proven. Don't cops always allow some trafficking to go on?

US Cut a Deal with Mexican Drug Cartel.

U.S. federal agents allegedly cut a deal with the Sinaloa drug cartel that allowed it to traffic tons of narcotics across the border, in exchange for information about rival cartels, according to documents filed in federal court.

Im beginning to think that all governments are nothing but elected mafia at this point.

Sure, but whatever you do don't go so far as to write your own rules about life. Let their laws define what is right and wrong to do, or have your life ruined by a felony drug charge because you got your hands on a spec of what they are selling.

It must be fun for the government to play both sides of the drug war. Who is behind all this? Some socio-path? is it like Nazi Germany where innocent people ended up killing Jewish people because they were told to do so? Maybe there is enough money to make this kind of corruption worthwhile. Fuckers.

Not that i support any substance prohibitions in any way, but they(US) may very well have been doing their stated mission of reducing drug flow in this instance. These were very high-ranking members of sinaloa cartel, they were in a position to provide extremely significant info on alllll of their rivals, and obviously wanted to do so.
As i mentioned in the other thread w/ this link/story, i'm dumbfounded he didn't "escape" once in our custody (mx police arrested him. Directly after meeting w/ the US, no less).
Oh and this is part of a much larger strategy of the us (and mx) supporting sinaloa cartel (what was it, like 10yrs ago, when el chapo was in one of forbe's richest ppl lists..). I can't say i support favoring any particular cartel, as i disagree w/ persecuting anyone solely for drugs, but favoring one cartel - esp while getting intel from them - will do dick to stem drug flow but WILL help quell some of the bloodshed south of the border.
