male vs female drug users

I've been thinking about this a bit, and in particular because it's so much easier for me to buy codeine than it is for my boyfriend or male friends. I think in the public's perception, the average drug user is a male aged 18-25. I guess statistics do sort of confirm this, but it's something like 60%/40% male/female who respond to drug surveys. That's not a huge skew towards male drug users, but I have noticed that most of the people I know who use drugs are guys. This is also apparent on BL - there seem to be more male than female posters. Has anyone else noticed this, and why do you think it's so? From what I've also seen, it's usually the woman who wants their boyfriend to stop using drugs, rather than the other way around. Do you think there is more stigma against girls who use drugs? Also, IME, a lot of guys seem to want a 'good girl' - they like partying with fun girls, but they want a relationship with someone who is very straight and 'good'. What does everyone else think about this?
 
there are probably more males, because we are sex crazed maniacs, on the seek for streaming HD PornO :-D


good girls might be more impressed(haha), or more naive-ish and corruptible then 'bad girls', who are usually much more manipulative then us males, or much better at it rather...

It seems that girls can get scripts far easier than guys can. I know plenty of girls with benzo scripts and they don't even have bad anxiety or even know that benzos can be recreational.... yet I'm labelled as a drug seeker when I try to get them. My gf was even prescribed zopiclone, along with 2 months of ativan without any hassle, but I have ssri's thrown at me non-stop.

Even in the past my gf has been prescribed hydrocodone cough syrup; I think I'd get laughed at if I asked my Dr for any of the above. And yes, I did eat/drink all of her medication so it works out in the end :P As well, she doesn't get weird looks or questions when buying a case of ephedrine, bottles of t1s or anything while I look like a junky or something. Even when I am in legitimate pain (tooth infection, broken toe, smashing face off walls/ground accidentally, strep throat) they still won't even prescribe me t3's but she can complain about pain and out comes a prescription for t3s!

In my experience more than 60% of drug users are male, and the skew is bigger with 'harder' and IV drugs. I think studies looking at things like ED presentations or give a more accurate indication of demographics (though obviously only for certain subsets of drug users, not overall) because response rates to surveys in general are extremely low, and likely even lower among drug users. Maybe less guys respond to surveys? ;)
 
I think the ratio of drug users male vs female are pretty much even. I think maybe there are more male posters on BL because maybe guys are smarter and like to research their drugs etc etc :P

And yes Girls def can get more sscripts easier than Guys.
 
My girlfriend had never done any drugs b4 she met me and we have been together for a year and 5 months and we like to have fun together. Like our daily sessions or the odd mdma binge :-D
 
I'd say girls do their research, especially to avoid getting in a date rape situation
 
I think you're spot on about the public perception of the drug user being 18 - 25 male. I've noticed the same thing, women have a far easier time buying codeine etc, or obtaining scripts.

That said, as a 21 year old guy, I've never been outright refused codeine, which I buy on a regular basis, but I have twice been asked for ID, and a few times I've been told they've 'run out' which I suspect is BS, but no matter. I do get grilled pretty extensively at some pharmacies though.
 
I dunno if its just who I know but the vast majority of drug users I know are male, the chicks that do use drugs seem to use them less frequently and avoid harder drugs. It also seems to be a lot easier for chicks to get scripted decent drugs.

I remember once being thrown out of a pharmacy that I went to with a female friend, we had both been there a good number of times together buying codeine but on this particular occassion I was thrown out right after they sold codeine to her, and they accused us of being fucking siblings. Always tripped out out like if you think we are both doing dodgy shit why did you sell to her and ask me to leave. I definately think people just trust girls easier.

I don't really get why chicks seem less likely to use hard drugs but neither I or anyone I really associate with attatches more stigma to females using drugs than males. I really can't explain why there seems to be significantly more hard drug users or drug abusers than females but in my experience there is.
 
^ This is probably true, but I'm more interested in the difference between male and female drug users in real life. BL seems to overly represent male drug users; in real life it's not so unbalanced but there still seem to be more guys using drugs than girls. This is interesting:

And fits in with my own experiences. I don't know many other girls who do heroin, and I didn't know any in my uni classes, whereas I knew a couple of the guys experiemented with it.
 
My girlfriend is the OP and the bias is blatantly obvious. I have to jump through a million hoops to get benzo's scripted, even for severe alcohol withdrawal and once scripted, I'll commonly get forced into 4 day pickup regiments etc.

I get knocked back when asking to buy codeine from chemists or offered smaller sized packs and almost always have to produce ID. Where as footsy can walk in and not even get asked for ID (in the same pharmacy, same pharmacist, same day).

Males are more likely to be risk takers than females and we certainly don't come across as cute and innocent as our female counterparts. I believe our higher affinity to take risks makes us more likely to use all drugs, especially harder drugs.

Agreed. Obviously there are always exceptions either way, but there is plenty of behavioural/anthropological and neurophysiological evidence demonstrating (young) males are bigger risk takers. Drugs are just one of the more common risks to take these days.

I would have to agree but not to that extent. Maybe you have a memorable face?
 
I've never had trouble buying any Pharmacist medication, just come in with the name of it on a post it note and mispronounce the name, then show the pharmacist the note, saying your mum asked you to get it.

I have been getting that lately as well, havnt been refused yet but was actually told "dont take them regularly ok?" think she prob recognized that I go there so often. I had to argue with one guy who only had a pack of 15s and the limit is 30 if they have 12.8mg in them and he was trying to tell me I cant have 2 boxes of 15s then he got so mad and asked someone else and came back and gave em to me lol stupid indian noob pharmacist :S
