I've posted about 3-5 threads about quitting oxycotin & now I'm here once again trying to quit and feel like a bit of a mess for not being able to quit..
Anyways some background:
- been addicted to oxycotin for a year and a couple of months
- most enjoyed opiate is oxycotin but when i can't get that i will use morphine or heroin to avoid withdrawal
- daily dose is usually an 80mg of oxy a day OR a 100mg morphine & a 40mg oxy a day OR a 200mg morphine a day (this all depends on what's available and the price)
- an 80 of oxy can get me through the day without any discomfort I just don't really get high it keeps me normal, I regularly up my dose (usually once or twice a week) in order to get high
- I've been thinking about quitting for a long time and have tried multiple times (taper only) and never succeeded (when I do a taper I usually get down to 40mg a day then I end up just upping my dose and getting back to an 80mg a day)

This time when I quit I was thinking of doing it cold turkey more or less. I have 3 prescription sleeping pills (which I think will be helpful for the 1st 3 days to help me sleep at night), I also have a guy who can get me valiums so I was thinking of grabbing a bunch of those (will they help reduce the withdrawal/help me get through it or should I just not bother getting them)

Also, my girls addicted as well and she plans on quitting with me... so big questions:
- will taking valium during the 1st couple of days of withdrawal help reduce the intensity of it?
- what can I do to make the withdrawal not as bad/get through it easier?
- how long will I feel like shit for?
- any advice ?? or anything I can do to make this process easier?

this sounds like it should be in the dark side...

but hang in there man! you'll be fine!

Id suggest going to the sub DR if you can, if u can get the strips then you getting off the stuff will be much much easier

Honestly if you and your girl are serious about quitting youre in a great position, because you guys can be each others support group in times of weakness

yea but thats just switching one drug with the next isn't it?

wouldn't the best idea be to suck it up and deal with the withdrawal?

I got a buddy who was a serious alcoholic and he only had benzo's for his withdrawal and he said he made it through.. he said it sucked but its do able for sure.. ..???..

No, not really.
I for one have sat around and DTed, but its cause I didnt have a choice

You get on the sub strips and then slowly taper off of them, its not switching from one thing to another at all. If you start trying to use them to get a good feeling as opposed to what they are intended for you should be fine
I probably know about 10+ people who were bad off, used subs and got their quality life back. This rangers from a few people i knew who did heroin to a wealthy friend of mine who used to put down tons of 10s

Also DTing from alchohol and opiates are different. You cant really compare the experience

I would definitely look into suboxone/subutex. While switching to Methadone can be viewed as switching up drugs, Bupe is so much easier to come off of. I know there are some who will tell you that the withdrawals from bupe are bad, IME they are really quite mild, especially if you taper properly.

any other advice/opinions/input?
also:
- will using valium help reduce the intensity of the withdrawal?
- what else could I do/use to help the quitting process

I stopped using a year ago from a nasty heroin habit I had going for six months. Personally I used cold turkey method in a detox center. Fuck waiting another year to slowly taper down with subutex. And from what I've heard subutex still has minor withdraws that last longer than normal withdraws.

At the detox center I stayed at they doped me up with soma and benzos. Soma helped the most, that is how I actually got sleep. You just gotta be sure to limit yourself because your regular sleep patterns won't come back for awhile. After about 4-5 days I started feeling better and checked out of the detox center so I could smoke some herb to deal with cravings. But even with weed I still didn't sleep right for about a month. That's just something you have to deal with. Honestly, it's a small price to pay compared to the initial hell you have to go through the first week.

Just stick with it and you'll be fine. Exercise and Muhammad Ali videos were my motivation. IMO it feels more accomplishing when you don't have to cave in and go to subutex cause you couldn't handle 4-5 days of being sick.

if you go to a sub DR they would prescribe you xanax, so if u want to use valium i guess you can, but thats what the DR would prefer you take

And some people like muscle relaxers just to ease some of the pain

do you think if I went to my family doctor and told him I am quitting and asked for valium or xanax and sleeping pills that he would give them to me?

You never go to a doctor and directly ask for something

Explain your situation and I assume they will do something, stress how much trouble youre having sleeping and dealing with the anxiety of craving drugs

okay. so if I go i should explain that i'm about to quit and last time i quit i was unable to do so because of the extreme amount of stress i experienced and the fact that i couldn't sleep for a good month

I personally don't think that would work. Doctors hate giving drug addicts any drug, even if it's the one you aren't addicted to. Do you have insurance? Consider going to a detox center. They have every sleeping/anti-anxiety drug you can get and somas to boot. Then when you leave, they usually give you 7 sleeping pills to get some sleep while you're out. After that it's just a matter of exercising and tiring yourself out so you can sleep.

But if your plan is to lie to the doctor and just say you have trouble sleeping, most family doctors won't prescribe a benzo. They'll prescribe ambien or some weak sleeping pill. IMO ambien sucks during withdraw, it gives you fucked up hallucinations. Xanax and valium aren't usually prescribed for sleep, they're prescribed for panic attacks. Unless you have a cool doctor I don't think telling him you're stressed is going to get you anything more than a weak sleeping pill.

I highly suggest getting the valium and if possible lyrica
Also, having your gf there with you just to talk to and keep your mind off of how shitty you feel helps a ton

Everyone is different though so it all depends but you should be feeling a little bit of relief after the first 4-6 days
Then after that it gets easier and easier everyday

The real hard part isn't the initial horrible physical wd imo, it's the post acute wd symptoms and staying clean that's tough
After the first week or so most of your pain and aches will be gone and you'll be able to sleep more and more each night with out benzo's
But the cravings, anxiety, and sweating etc is the real bitch

During that phase I would just try to get out more and more everyday. Soak up some sun, work out, play some sports etc.

Good luck though, just try to keep thinking how much better you'll feel after the first couple of weeks and hang onto that feeling of waking up everyday and not having to depend on opiates just to get out of bed

Not at all...if you use it correctly its a life saver..there is No way i would have done it without subs..i was on em for about three months and thats what t took..tried for a while to kick without..subs work for sure and i didnt have any physical WDs at the end

Yeah but would you rather have three months of tapering or 3 days of being sick? Plus most people that get on subs never get off, they're basically trading one addiction for another. I know subs aren't full agnoist but they still satisfy that opiate craving. When you're on subs you don't think it's a big deal to relapse because you always have the subs for your WD. It's just an excuse to keep using in some cases.

That's my opinion. I'm glad it worked for you though and congrats on being clean!

yeah
like i said go to the DR and tell them exactly whats going on, typically a DR is there to help you

You may get something different because youre not going to a sub dr specifically, but if you explain youre trying to kick something and talk about your anxiety from it and your inability they should sleep

Some one above said Drs dont like giving drs to drug addicts, well if you go to a sub dr thats exactly what they will do, give you stuff to get off the drugs youre on. But like i said the only thing I would question is what a normal DR would do for your Vs a sub doctor

your best bet is to do a suboxone detox... take suboxone for about 10-14 days do a taper than stop.... Much bigger chance and easier than cold turkey bro..

Don't take sub for more than a few weeks... or else you'll be addicted to the sub
