I wouldn't mind emulating it.

IMO this is exactly why the movie fails: most people end up thinking Thompson and Oscar Acosta had the greatest time in the world on their Vegas trip -- when in fact, the book tells a tale of sickening confusion and existential terror.

it was good, but not deep or really insightful.

I disagree, there's a few nuggets of prose in that book that are like precious sapphires. One of the more salient examples:

There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda. You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning.

And that, I think, was the handle, that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting, on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave.

So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark, that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back."

Oh yeah...the book, when you are picturing it yourself, and interpreting it as you want to rather than how some film director (who am i right in saying most likely hasn't dropped L before) wants you to interpret mr. thompson's words.
i gotta finish/restart reading on the road

Having seen the movie multiple times but never reading the book, I'm now pretty excited to get a hold of a copy of the book

Good point.. you gotta think he got some kind of sick twisted pleasure out of it though since he lived his life that way for the next 30 years :D

That whole quote is in the movie

Yeah, the book came before the movie...and obv. when a movie version is made of a novel/book, i'd think the director/whoever writes the screenplay would quote the book often.
but that might just be how i'd do it.

Yeah I know that quote was in the movie.... the movie was actually very "accurate" with respect to the book, but I don't think it captured the correct tone of the piece, I guess that's what I was trying to say. :)

Anyways, enjoying a Sierra Nevada Torpedo IPA. Very, very good beer -- and as I haven't really allowed myself to drink much alcohol this summer, its really a nice treat. Plus at ~7% ABV, I'm developing a nice buzz and I'm only half way through my second one. I need to do dishes so I'm drinkin' it out of a wine glass, LOL :D

Hey roger. There was a guy that came into the grocery store that I work at the other day that literally looks exactly like your avatar. It instantly reminded me of this thread haha

Roger, the torpedo IPA is a good one :). I'm actually not drinking beer right now, since we're out of it, but I am enjoying a dark and stormy (ginger beer and dark rum). I really like dark and stormies, especially if you use Reed's Ginger beer.

I've done aMT a few times at varying dosages and also in combination with other chemicals. I have the freebase, which is more potent by just a bit and won't dissolve, except in a slightly acidic solution. Other than that, besides very specific details I don't think there is much more of a difference.

Ok thanks for the response. I was wondering because the other day my friend and I took 30mg HCL and got very subtle visuals, and I woke up feeling the same as when I feel asleep. Tonight I took 60mg, am getting jaw clenching, euphoria, and some nausea, but no visuals as of yet. Just wondering if I should dose higher next time or what?

I don't find aMT to be very visual, but I normally don't get very many visuals anyhow. I certainly noticed a brightening of colors, and a bit of euphoria at 40mg orally, but euphoric in a way where I laid in the sun at a park with a female friend, listening to music and enjoying goodvibes. I find aMT on it's own to be more of a mental, dreamy-state; where I am excessively happy and cynical in a very good-humored (in my opinion) manner. It feels very lucid.

I took my dose on a completely empty stomach, and when I tried to eat around +6 I found swallowing food to be very difficult and threw up shortly after I ate, though fruit or something certainly would have been more appropriate than the leftover bbq I had.

That's the highest I've dosed yet besides 50mg at a festival, but I also did loads of ketamine, 750mg of aniracetam, 450-540 micrograms of LSD and smoked copious amounts of weed that day, so trying discern the aMT's unique effects would be a task.

I notice jaw clenching as well but usually take magnesium to prevent this allowing me to enjoy my trip more, and not hate myself the day after when it hurts to talk/eat lol. You could dose higher if you're looking for a more intense experience, or try combining it with another drug.

Your first paragraph describes exactly what I'm feeling. I think I'll dose higher next time, but I need to see how long this dose last for first. Thanks :)

When I dosed 40mg, I couldn't sleep even at +15:00h. I took 2mg of clonazepam and was able to sleep for like 3 hours and woke up feeling nothing more than a bit tired... probably from the clonazepam. lol

*Drools in jealousy*

I love Torpedo, in my top 5 favorite beers ever. Unfortunately legislation prevents such a fine product from ending up on shelves north of the border. :(

I haven't had any since I was in FL. In fact there is only one real IPA on the market up here at the moment (southern tier). Pale lager dominates completely. There's only two actual pale ales that I can think of. People must really not like hops up here. We grow lots of them but I think most get shipped south.

Well I'm heading camping tomorrow, bringing some MDMA with me. I was hesitant this past week thinking about it but I'm going to go for it; first time since last summer. I'm still going to stay away from mind bending psychedelics for a while; this is going to be a social thing with a big fire and good music. :)

Oh proper socks, go for it.
How much you gonna dose?
sounds like fun :D
i should be tripping again for the first time since february in a few days.
excited but nervous...
