Florida welfare recipients must pass drug test

^^ lol ur neighbor's COUSIN's pot dealer!?! thats a pretty long chain to hear something so trivial as to "how hard it is to get on welfare." lol

No I wouldn't be for this if it was student aid. When you screw that up you owe that money back... Its a loan. the way I see it... Since you have no job and see asking the government for free shit they should be able to take some measure to see they aren't footing someones heroin habit. I live in a city plagued with drugs and one of the highest unemplyment around and everyday someone is selling their whole food card they didn't need in the first place.... Cash loads come in and all of it is spent on dope.

Regardless though. This won't work and it'll cost more money for the tests that catch the wrong people. The fuckers smoking 400 cash and 500 to 900 food while kids are Hungry will slide by. In theory its a good idea that won't work.

what if that heroin habit is carrying somebody through school? what if it is self medication? what if he wants out of the habit, but cutting off his money supply will throw him into withdrawal, which will fail him out of school, which will put him on the street, where he will continue to use heroin by any means possible? where otherwise he could have done his own taper on his own time?

do we have free will as adults, able to direct our own medication (with, hopefully, the counsel of professionals)?

Scott approved the rail project? How have I not heard about this...

Or is it a different rail project and not the HSR project that woluld have made alot more sense?

/back on topic

Ya... going concensus is he just didnt want it to be obama's doing
/the rail is a HORRIBLE idea, but he'll be out b4 the problems start..

^he's a weasel. He transferred ownership to his wife when he took office; under Florida law, he no longer is owner.

He's slick is Scott; he eluded prosecution in a billion dollar fraud case. The hospital chain that he was CEO of was found to have defrauded medicare of over a billion, but he resigned shortly before charges were filed.

So if I have this straight, Mr. Scott refused the $2.3bil federally funded HSR project on the grounds that it would cost Floridian taxpayers too much in overrun or operational costs. Then favors a $2.6bil state funded sunrail project?

maybe i missed it, but did ANY of the supporters of this bill answer my question of whether they'd support it going from welfare-only to college's financial aid?

Depends. Are they getting their tuition paid, or CASH AID?

I live and pay taxes in FL and I think that everyone who receives cash that can be spent on anything should have to take drug tests. The vast majority of the people I know who receive welfare use drugs. I was laid off and I'm not eligible for unemployment or aid. I'd be much better off right now if I had received some of those tax dollars instead of them going to someone else. It would be comforting to know they weren't getting high while I have to cut the hell back on weed.

you mean, take "medicines not legitimized by the state" tests? how condescending*...

i used your taxpayer dollars to buy such medicine. sorry, but a tool is a tool. and this tool helped me through college. in a cost-benefit analysis, your dollars were well spent, despite what your moral feelings may be.

*especially when those tax-dollars funded narcotics which held me through psychopharmacology and psychobiology ;)

i agree. but arguing against student aide will not in any way whatsoever help aide to unemployment.

I don't know how you can say this. If even with a Master's degree, I have to piss in a cup for someone to hire me to stand in front of a cash register, it's only right that if I'm claiming I'm "too poor" to afford food and necessities, that I get a piss test to prove I'm not using drugs either.

While I'm against the whole drug testing thing in the first place...I feel like if the US is gonna go drug testing crazy about employment, even shitty minimum wage employment, it's only right that people claiming they are unable to support their families with any employment are subject to the same invasive testing.

Damn, the "if i have to get it, then THEY should TOO!" argument. Shit girl, I reallty did not expect this comin from you. :\

First, somethin that nobody seems to be realizing is that just because you come up dirty for drugs dont mean you spent your welfare check on the drugs. If the purpose is to prevent welfare money gettin spent on drugs, its absolutely impossible to determine with a drug test. Your friend coulda smoked you down. You coulda got a birthday card from your granny with $5 in it and went to buy a nick. They dont know that they drugs in your system are there becuz you bought them with your welfare check. Thats just ONE reason why it aint fair.

The whole purpose behind it, which is supposedly to make sure that people dont spend their "government money" on things that aint necessities, is impossible to prove. Not only that, but if they test for drugs they better start testing for alcohol and nicotine too, cuz neither one of those things is necessary. Its invasive as fuck and it really makes me sick to see how resentful people are towards folks on welfare. They just cant fucking stand the idea that people are gettin a check for "doing nothing", and its like well, if I gotta live with this horrible knowledge, the least I can do is try to control the shit they allowed to spend it on! Its like the consolation prize to the people who wish there was no public assistance.

The idea of "making sure people spend their money on the "right" things" when they on public assistance is impossible to enforce without completely running the persons life for them. First of all, who determines things that are necessities? And how do you enforce it?

Candy sure as hell aint necessary. Going to the movies aint necessary. Are we gonna make food stamps into a system that only applies to "healthy" foods, so that the EBT card only works when you want to buy apples, but dont work when you want to buy ice cream? Or that people on welfare can only shop at welfare stores, where only items that are approved are allowed, so we can prevent people from indulging in luxuries like $5 a bottle shampoo and give em VO5 and Suave instead, cuz the purpose is to get your hair clean, and if you can do that for $1 then thats how you should do it?

When this bill first came out a few months ago I made a whole lot of posts in the original thread, and Ima come back and link to em in here becuz the arguments are still the same and I aint tryna write the same shit out again. But theres SO many reasons why this law is fucked, and let me tell you one mutha fuckin thing, I guaran-fucking-tee you that one of the REAL purposes behind it is to scare people off from applying for welfare.

Bet my last dollar that the welfare enrollment drops like a fuckin stone now that this law came out. They know it will make people less willing to apply, they know itll make em scared to go to the county, and they are fuckin waiting in their offices grinnin from ear to ear thinkin about the money that they can take from the welfare budget.

this shit is paper thin and clear to anybody who can see past the bullshit claims that its for peoples own good. The real idea behind this is to put more money into the pockets of the people who runnin shit. They do anything they can to get people to quit welfare or not apply, they did some similar shit in Georgia a few years back. Dirty fuckin tricks to rip people out of the money they entitled to.

I can tell you this much. I worked my whole life and every paycheck I got that wasnt under the table (which was more than half of em) had a nice big chunk took out for taxes. And I dont give two fucking shits wat people on welfare spend their money on. They can spend the entire fuckin thing on beer and lottery tickets for all I care. No matter wat I do, Im STILL PAYING THE SAME AMOUNT OF MONEY IN TAXES INTO WELFARE FUNDS......Whether they spend it on clothes for the kids or a night out at a restaurant, I aint payin a fucking dime more, so why the hell do I care? Why are yall so hung up over it? The moneys gone. Its outta your hands. Why you begrudging people their $210 a month so they can get high on the weekends and have a lil fun once in a while? For real, yall should be ashamed of that pettiness.

I hate that attitude towards poor folks, like "I dont trust you to take care of yourself. I dont trust you to do wats right for you. I need to control your life for you so that you can do the things I think you should do because you aint capable of doing them for yourself."

Let me ask yall--How many of you have dropped a couple bucks on some weed, some pills, or WTFever once a week, had your fun, and spent the rest of your money on the shit you had to spend it on the rest of the time?

You really dont think that poor folks deserve that same ability? That if you poor, you can NEVER have fun, you can NEVER do NOTHING except things you need to do to get by? that you deserve day after day of grindin, poverty, and misery, because if you poor, you cant justify going to the movies for one fucking day during the summer to get out of the heat and enjoy the air conditioning for a few hours, cuz if you dont, you gonna go fucking insane?

Why is it that people think that people on welfare aint capable of the same shit that the rich folks are? Yall know you can get high on the weekend and still maintain your bizness. Yall know that shit is possible. And on BLUELIGHT no less.

I really cant believe how some people on here can have the opinions they have when it comes to shit related to drugs. In threads like this is where Bluelights upper-middle class majority really shows its true colors, becuz its horribly obvious that a good amount of yall dont know the first thing about how it is to live on welfare or be poor enough to be in that situation.

I aint gonna keep goin now, but damn. SMH. :|

precisely - the difference is he didn't want to take obama's money. FL $ was just fine ;P
/edit: the rail project $$ really puts the piddly cash saved through "welfare abuse" into a disgusting light :|

Lets all be real here, what we all want to see is welfare money used responsibly. I don't think anyone wants anyone to have a bad time, its more of, the economy is shit right now and everyone is a bit edgy in regards to money. I agree lacey, people without money should still be able to have fun and stuff but there are some people that are abusing the system. Not all, but definitely some. Its just frustrating when there are definitely good people out there that need the help and can benefit from it. However, I've met someone who sold drugs and stated that their income was nothing and also received welfare. In that case, welfare shouldn't be benefiting them. Not to say I don't like this person or that they're evil and mischievous but if you're selling drugs even though you have the ability to work/get an education/etc. then why not try for that? I just don't like the thought of someone who has been selling for 10+ years to be supported by money that could help some single mother get through college or something. Thats just an example btw. It seems like this whole thing is more complex than the government can understand, which is often the case anyways. Government should have a mix of young and older people. Only older people means everything is somewhat antiquated.

this law does primarily target MJ users, yet it i do think it is a vital option for controlling the states money. i use MJ everyday and recreational use of other drugs. i have a hard nose theory of that you have to earn your high. i am a stone mason/ brick layer for my grandfathers company , having never been drug tested here in maryland because of the cost. i think a lot of people are "leeches" to the system and Ive fell victim to using wintertime unemployment money to get fucked up. im not completely wrapped up in capitalism at all but the IDEA of this is great, however its unconstitutional and i'm very against illegal search and seizure. :!

about abusing the system...

99% of the money that is abused in our system... tax loopholes for the mega rich. foodstamps are not that costly. in fact, they directly stimulate our economy and have a net positive impact on the budget. i don't care if somebody who is making even over 50k a year "abuses" the system to get foodstamps or some other low-cost (relatively) aide--it's a drop in the bucket compared to the *real* abuses of the system, and compared to military spending etc.
