Lorazepam...I feel strange

Over the last few three or four hours, I have taken 4mg lorazepam and I feel strangely disoriented. It's a very strange feeling...it's like I just woke up and I'm trying to make sense of what exactly is going on around me. It was subtle at first, but as I continually redosed the strange feeling became more and more present. It's not overpowering, it's just kind of there. The only other benzo I've ever used was clonazepam, and I remember nothing of it. I just feel confused and a bit sad. I don't understand. I thought benzodiazepines were great fun, based on what I've read. But right now I just feel "off." Has anyone else had similar reactions?

Also--I have 2mg left. If I were to take them tonight, do you think I'd black out? I just want to experience benzos how others do.

That's a common side effect of that dosage of a benzo such as lorazepam. I wouldn't take any more, you won't gain anything from it.

You're probably blacked out right now, I wouldn't take the 2mg you have left, save it for another time.
 
The thing is, I'm not slurring my speech and I can walk straight. It's just that everything seems to feel strange to me. I figure that if I really was blacking out, I'd be a lot less coherent than I am now. I'm just kind of confused.
 
You're experiencing normal benzodiazepine symptoms, nothing to be alarmed about. The difference between loazepam and clonazepam is that the clonazepam has a slower onset of action and stays in your system longer. Lorazepam on the other hand has a quicker onset of action and also a shorter half-life which explains why you are 'feeling' it more so than the clonazepam, because clonazepam sets in slower, so you're likely not to notice it until its in full effect (hence your memory loss, which is a common side effect as well). As far as taking the rest of it, thats a decision only you can judge the best, but I can tell you that if you don't like the experience you're having now, taking more lorazepam is not going to help. Try and get a good night's sleep and save the last bit for maybe during the day when you're fully alert and preferably in a good mood. Benzos really open up your emotions sometimes and if you've got any sadness on your mind it could make it worse. Waiting until tomorrow will give you time to reset and be prepared for how the lorazepam is going to make you feel and hopefully give you a more enjoyably experience. :)
 
Thanks to you both. I think I'll save the rest of the pills for later (not later tonight, of course). I just feel weird. And I have experience with plenty of other drugs--it isn't like I don't know what I'm doing--but I guess benzodiazepines' effects are different than I'd expected. Anyway, I'm not really sure what is causing me to feel like this (I haven't really heard much about confusion/disorientation on benzos), but I don't like it and I know more pills will most likely fuck things up even more. So I will hold the pills for a later time and just go to sleep probably. Thanks for your help. :)

You've got the right idea there bud. Definitely smart to just hold off because like we've said, taking more isn't going to solve anything, instead it'd just make the effects stronger. As far as confusion and disorientation, these are some of the most commonly experienced side effects from benzodiazepines, as well as sedation and amnesia. *(theres a good chance with the dose you've taken that in the morning you won't even remember that you posted on here)* Hopefully you do remember though and give us a follow up. My first time I took .5mg of Ativan, I felt exactly how you felt. It took a few times before the disoriented thing went away.
 
There have been quite a lot of reports of people "tripping" or feeling weird after taking lorazepam. I'm not entirely sure of the pharmacological reasons behind that, but there is something about it that is different from other benzos because it is not uncommon to experience the side effects that you are experiencing from lorazepam.

I remember something about the fact its a 3 hydroxy benzodiazepine, and I just did a quick search and found an online research post of the study of 3 hydroxy benzos on the brain and what do you know, they have an effect on NMDA receptors, I'll post the article for anyone who wants to read through it.

when i did that i experienced the same thing i felt really wierd almost impossible to explain..ya definatly dont take those other ones, ive never tried that again anyways i dont get much out of benzos i feel pretty normal
 
Lorazepam does the same thing to me sometimes. I'll get a tad bit emotional and I'll feel sort of "tripped out", almost like after taking an Ambien. Its made me do some really bizarre things but not while blacked out. I won't slur and I don't walk off balanced but I'll just feel a little off. Its quite a strange feeling and it doesn't happen with ANY other benzodiazepine except lorazepam.

Well, if he gets alarmed he can pop another Lorazepam to take care of it... LOL. (p.s. joking... no HR fanatics descend here, this is not a landing pad).
