Suboxone/Methadone question

Yesterday I took an 8mg suboxone. My dr. has me on this to help with my heroin addiction and to also control my chronic pain. Well it's not working. I have some left over methadone from when I was on it. Can I take it as a 1 time dose for pain? Do have to wait until I'm in withdrawal? Is is okay to take it after the suboxone but not before it so it doesn't throw me into withdrawal? I would really appreciate any help or advice given. Thanks to everyone who replies. Unfortunately at this time I do not have a way to get any other opiates unless I would go to the hospital which I'm trying to avoid.

since you was on H you might have to dose a couple of times with the suboxone to get some good relief you should try dosing a little more first also how are you taking your suboxone and how long did you leave it under..?

I've been on the suboxone for a year, I've been up to 32 mgs already and it just doesn't seem to help. I always take it under the tongue and I leave there until it completely dissolves.

You need to wait about 24 hours after your last dose before taking the Suboxone. That's how long I usually wait and I have no problems with precipitated withdrawals. You can take the Methadone anytime after the Suboxone but your not going to feel it until about 14-18 hours after your last dose of Suboxone. You won't feel the full effects until like 36-48 hours. At least that's how it goes for me.

Thanks so much for your help, it's been about 15 hours or so since I took the suboxone so I will give it a shot. I'm not really looking for a buzz I just want something for my pain. I know I have to wait until I am in withdrawal from the methadone to take the suboxone again. One day shouldn't be that bad.

After 15 hours you should feel some pain relief but don't expect to feel the entire effects that you usually would as it takes about 36 hours before you feel the full effects. You'll need a higher dose than usual. Just from my experience

also ive read that suboxone for pain is better in low doses like 4 mgs and under..also in another thread i read somethin about taking methadone and suboxone together and them both potentiating each other..so im curios as to how you felt after

Do you have a good dr? Sounds like you need to speak to someone with experience in pain management, ideally with opiate-addicted people..

Taking Methadone after Suboxone carries no risk of inducing precipitated withdrawl. The effects of the Methadone however will be extremely diminished, and depending on the dose, may not be perceptible at all.

If you were to wait until the Buprenorphine begins to wear off, and then take the Methadone, you'd most likely get more analgesic benefit from it. Though going back on the Sub after taking a full agonist could very well precipitate w/d symptoms, albeit for a short period of time while you adjust back to the Bupe.

No, taking Suboxone and Methadone together will not potentiate the effects of each other and as for what you have read, yes, Suboxone in smaller doses is more effective for pain than in higher doses.

Thanks everyone, I have to find a good Dr. who deals with pain management. The Dr' I have now is good but he has done everything he can for me. Since he deals with suboxone he never prescribes narcotics. I think a pain management clinic could offer me more options.
